  • Gujarat temples contribute 200 kg gold worth Rs 120.6 crore to GMS

Gujarat temples contribute 200 kg gold worth Rs 120.6 crore to GMS

In a display of support for the Gold Monetization Scheme (GMS) introduced by the Union government, two prominent temples in Gujarat, Ambaji Temple and Somnath Temple, have collectively deposited close to 200 kg of gold in public sector banks.

The initiative aims to unlock the value of gold holdings and put them to productive use for the benefit of the temples and the economy as a whole.

A recent study conducted by the India Gold Policy Centre at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, sheds light on the reluctance of retail consumers to monetize their gold holdings. The study reveals that a mere 0.22 percent of the surplus gold held by Indian households is being monetised through the GMS.

However, the Ambaji Temple and Somnath Temple have bucked the trend by depositing a substantial amount of gold in public banks, collectively amounting to nearly 200 kg. At current prices, this translates to gold deposits worth an impressive Rs 120.6 crore.

The government has been actively encouraging temples to deposit the gold they receive as donations in banks under the GMS. This initiative allows the temples to earn interest on their gold deposits, offering a viable option for the temples to utilise their gold assets effectively. Under the scheme, medium-term deposits earn an annual interest rate of 2.25 per cent, while long-term deposits earn an interest rate of 2.5 per cent per annum.

The Ambaji Temple Trust has emerged as a frontrunner in gold deposits, having already deposited 168 kg of gold in three phases. In the first two phases, the trust deposited 96 kg and 23 kg of gold, respectively. Additionally, around 140 kg of gold has been utilised to adorn the temple’s spire, adding to the splendor of the sacred place. The Somnath Temple has also actively participated in the scheme, utilising the gold accumulated through donations to gold plate the temple spires.

  • Modi’s TS tour to revive BJP

Modi’s TS tour to revive BJP

Hyderabad: Aiming to win the ensuing Assembly elections in the state, Telangana BJP is set to intensify its activity from July 8, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing a public meeting in Warangal. Modi will lay foundation stone for Kazipet Wagon Overhauling Centre and address a mammoth public meeting on the day. Modi will also lay foundation stone for the Mega Textile Park in Warangal on the same day. The Telangana government has sanctioned adequate lands to both the centrally-sponsored rail and textile projects for which the Centre would invest more than Rs 1,000 crore.

Soon after receiving information from the PMO about Modi’s visit to Telangana, the BJP state unit is planning to mobilise huge crowds to make PM’s public meeting a grand success.

On the other hand, the BJP high command has also turned its attention to the growing dissension in the party and is likely to call a meeting of state leaders in Delhi to iron out the differences. BJP national president J P Nadda will be visiting Warangal to review the arrangements.

Modi will also hold a brief meeting with a select party leaders to discuss the strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections in Telangana.

It may be mentioned here that state leaders like Dubbaka MLA Raghunandan Rao and AP Jitender Reddy are unhappy for ‘their services are not being used properly’ by the party.

They feel that the high command is giving importance to juniors and the new entrants like Eatala Rajender and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy while ignoring seniors like them.

Raghunandan Rao wants to be included in the national executive in the rejig of party and government at the Centre which is on cards. He said he has been exposing the omissions and commissions of the BRS government, including the scam in Outer Ring Road project. Stating that he too has threat to his life, the Dubbaka MLA says that the Centre, however, has given ‘Y’ category security only to Bandi Sanjay and Eatala.

Meanwhile, Jitender Reddy released a video, which had gone viral on the social media, in which a buffalo is seen being kicked when it refuses to get into a truck and once inside, the door was shut. He feels that it was the situation in the party now.

Hence, the high command feels that this kind of open dissension was against the BJP culture and hence it needs immediate remedial measures.

  • Rahul gave treatment to the riot victims

Rahul gave treatment to the riot victims

Ethnic strife-torn Manipur witnessed high drama on Thursday over the visit of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to relief camps in Churachandpur after his convoy was stopped by the police midway and he had to take a helicopter to reach his destination.

Gandhi, who interacted with those sheltering in relief camps in Churachandpur, 63 kms from Manipur’s capital Imphal, said “Manipur needs healing. Peace has to be our only priority.”

The blocking of his convoy triggered a political slugfest as the Congress alleged that the BJP-led government is trying to thwart the leader’s visit, while the saffron party accused him of being “stubborn” and choosing to take the road trip even though he was advised to take a chopper as his trip was opposed by various quarters.

During his visit to Churachandpur, he interacted with the inmates in relief camps set up at a school and a college there, where around 200 people are camped.

The Congress leader, who had earlier flown into Imphal in the morning was stopped by the local police at Bishnupur, around 20 kilometres from Imphal, citing demonstrations on the way. “There is a security threat. We cannot take the risk of allowing Rahul Gandhi to proceed,” a senior police official said.

A large number of people, mostly women, gathered near the spot and demonstrated both for and against the visit. Gandhi’s supporters demanded that he be allowed to go to Churachandpur, referring to the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah there late last month. One of the demonstrating women said, “If Amit Shah could go to Churachandpur, why not Rahul Gandhi?” The police used tear gas shells to disperse the mob.

  • Modi should enter Telangana only after statement on Kazipet Coach Factory: Vinod Kumar

Modi should enter Telangana only after statement on Kazipet Coach Factory: Vinod Kumar

Hyderabad: Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar on Thursday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should land in the State only after making a clear statement on the Kazipet Railway Coach Factory, as promised in the 13th Schedule, Section 93 of the AP State Bifurcation Act.

Speaking to the media, he said people of the State, including those in Warangal district, have been fighting and waiting for the coach factory for four decades. Kumar said it was surprising that Modi was coming to Kazipet to start only a wagon repair centre instead of the coach factory in Kazipet.

He clarified that only coach factory should be set up in Kazipet; “it is the right of people of the State”. Kumar lashed out at the Congress and BJP governments at the Center for playing hide and seek regarding the coach factory for the past four decades. “Whoever is the Minister of Railways at the Centre, they are setting up railway coach factories in their respective States”, said Kumar while questioning the spirit of national unity.

The coach factory went to Bengaluru when Jafar Sharif was the Railway minister, it went to West Bengal when Mamata Banerjee was the minister. Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar took it to Bihar when they were ministers. The factory was moved to Rai Bareilly when Sonia Gandhi was the UPA chairperson. Piyush Goyal took it to Maharashtra Latur when he was the Railway minister. Modi set up railway coach factory in Dahol, Gujarat.

Kumar reminded Modi that after the BJP government came to power in 2014, it announced that no new railway coach factories would be set up in the country but in April 2018 coach factories were given to Latur and in April 2022 in Dahol. where is justice in this, he asked.
