    CBI Detains Man From Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur In Online Child Sexual Abuse Case

    The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a person from Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district in connection with an ongoing investigation into an online sexual abuse case, said the federal agency on Saturday, March 18. A case was registered against the 35-year-old accused and other unknown persons for allegedly creating, collecting, downloading, browsing, exchanging/distributing material showing children in the sexually explicit act in electronic form, the agency said.

    CBI found Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) images and clips from the Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) database of Interpol. The images from the Interpol database were examined using digital forensic tools and the location was traced to the Thanjavur district.

    “India joined Interpol ICSE Database last year to give impetus to its efforts of countering the menace of online child sexual exploitation,” CBI said.

    Following this, searches were carried out at the premises of the accused which led to the recovery of incriminating electronic gadgets.

    ‘Accused was sexually abusing a child for last 4 years,’ says CBI
    “It was alleged that the accused was sexually abusing a child for the last four years and he had captured nude videos/photographs of the minor kid which he had uploaded to his Google Account,” the federal agency said.

    It added, “It was further alleged that the accused forced 02 minor victims (male and female) to perform penetrative sexual acts on them as well on other minor children, including a minor victim girl; clicked photographs & recorded video; forced them to watch sexual acts with other adult person; threatened them to publish the pictures/video on social media and bring more minor girls.”

    Last year in September, CBI launched operation ‘Operation Megh-Chakra’ and carried out searches in 19 states and a union territory in connection with two cases of circulation of Child Sexual Abuse Material. The operation was based on inputs from the Interpol database in Singapore and intelligence gathered during 2021’s Operation Carbon.

    Sources informed that the Punjab Chief Secretary had sent a report to the Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) last night stating that they would be acting against certain elements for which they demanded assistance from Central forces.

    “All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall be suspended from 18th March (12:00 hours) to 19th March (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety,” an official order said.

    Earlier in the day, police had intercepted Amritpal’s cavalcade in Mehatpur village in Jalandhar. Though the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief managed to escape, six of his aides were learnt to have been detained.

    Some of his supporters shared clips on social media claiming that cops were chasing them. A video also showed Amritpal Singh sitting in a car and one of his associates could be heard saying policemen were after ‘Bhai saab’ (Amritpal).

    Meanwhile, the Punjab Police requested people to maintain peace and harmony. “Request all citizens to maintain peace & harmony. Punjab Police is working to maintain Law & Order. Request citizens not to panic or spread fake news or hate speech,” it said in a tweet.

    Sukhu, who holds the finance portfolio, has tried to give a new direction to make Himachal a “green state” by switching to electric vehicles, creating six green corridors and providing subsidy of 50 per cent for purchase of electric taxis, buses and trucks. An allocation of Rs 1,000 crore has been made for replacing 1,500 diesel buses of state transport corporation with electric vehicles.

    Under pressure to implement the 10 Congress guarantees promised before elections, he said the Old Pension Scheme had been approved while Rs 1,500 would be provided monthly to 2.31 lakh women in a phased manner.     With the burden of committed liabilities like salary and pension (Rs 42) and loan and interest payment (Rs 20) mounting each year, a mere Rs 29 in every Rs 100 is left for development works.

    Burdened with the challenge of ensuring development with empty coffers, Sukhu has laid thrust on adoption of latest technology in health and education sector. Thrust has also been laid on tourism promotion with Kangra to be developed as Tourism Capital to help generate the much- needed employment.

    Goswami said the suspect was known to the family and the siblings, who are nine years and four years old.

    “The suspect used to be the driver of a truck owned by the father of the boys. Due to some differences, he left the job. On Thursday, he came to their home with his new vehicle,” he added.
