    CHENNAI: Veteran actor Sarath Babu passed away due to health issues at a private hospital on Monday. He was 71.

    Reports suggested that the actor’s health condition was critical.He was receiving treatment for kidney and liver-related ailments for the past few weeks.

    In his career spanning over 200 films in five decades, Sarath Babu debuted in Telugu film industry with Rama Rajya (1973).

    His first Tamil film was Pattina Pravesam (1977), however he became popular among Tamil cinema lovers with K Balachander’s Nizhal Nijamagiradhu (1978).

    He played crucial roles in Rajini-starrers Annamalai (1991) and Muthu (1995) which turned out to be mass hits, and generated applause for the roles he essayed.

    ‘The Kerala Story’ to be screened at FTII

    MUMBAI: The makers of “The Kerala Story” have announced that a special screening of the movie will be held for the students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

    Directed by Sudipto Sen, “The Kerala Story” depicts how women from Kerala were forced to convert and recruited by the terror group Islamic State (IS). It is produced by Vipul Shah’s Sunshine Pictures.

    “We are very excited to meet our own people there. This is the future of the industry that is getting ready in FTII. It would be very interesting and exciting to see how they are looking at ‘The Kerala Story’, and what they think of it. What they have understood and their viewpoint, which is the future’s viewpoint. It is going to be fun,” Shah said in a statement.

    The movie, which has polarised the political discourse in the country, was released in theatres on May 5.

    The West Bengal government had imposed a ban on the film on May 8, apprehending tensions among the communities. Theatres in Tamil Nadu had decided to stop its screening from May 7 onwards, citing the law-and-order situation and a poor audience turnout.

    On Thursday, the Supreme Court stayed the West Bengal government’s order banning the film in the state and asked Tamil Nadu to ensure the safety of the moviegoers.

    “The Kerala Story” stars Adah Sharma in the lead, along with actors Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani. Shah also serves as the creative director, and the co-writer of the film. The movie has so far raised over Rs 150 crore at the domestic box office.

    MUMBAI: Following the release of ‘The Kerala Story’ in the UK, the team behind the film addressed the media to celebrate the success of the film. The film, according to its makers, is likely to cross the Rs 190-crore-mark in India today.

    ‘The Kerala Story’ has been facing the backlash of a certain political parties and groups that have claimed that the film is not based on facts, and propagates hatred against the Muslim community.

    The West Bengal government has declared a ban on ‘The Kerala Story’ in the state and in Tamil Nadu, exhibitors have withdrawn it from theatres, but the film has still become a commercial success.

    At the press conference, Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film producer, claimed that uncovering the truth behind “this hidden scandal” was of paramount importance.

    People are trying to claim that this movie is a fake, the makers are lying and the film is filthy, which is not the case. The film is bigger than just the story of three girls, Shah said.

    Shah used the occasion to announce that he had donated Rs 51 lakh to the Aarsha Vidya Samajam Ashram, which takes care of survivors of religion conversion. The makers also invited 26 girls from the Ashram to interact with the media along with the film’s ensemble cast.

    ‘The Kerala Story’ follows the story of a group of women from the state who are converted to Islam and join the jihadist group ISIS.

    Relaying the news, co-host Gayle King, who just interviewed the dad of seven last week, said that he and his partner “are over the moon” about the newest member of the family. To the CBS News journalist, the actor also confirmed that the baby was planned.

    Mumbai (IANS) | Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has spoken about the ban on the recently released film ‘The Kerala Story’. Responding to the ban on ‘The Kerala Story’ in West Bengal on Wednesday, Kashyap tweeted, “Whether you agree with the film or not, whether it is propaganda or propaganda, it is wrong to ban it.”

    He also shared a quote from French philosopher Voltaire, which read: I do not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the end your right to say it.

    ‘The Kerala Story’ is currently in controversy as the film’s trailer claims that 32,000 girls from Kerala have gone missing and joined terrorist group ISIS. Later the makers of the film changed it to three women.

    Anurag Kashyap tweeted that it is absolutely wrong to ban a film, even if it is propaganda. He asked people to watch ‘Rumor’, which speaks against the misuse of social media and how implicit bias is weaponized to create hatred and unrest.

    You want to fight propaganda, he tweeted. Then visit ‘Afwah’ which talks about the misuse of social media. It is running in theatres. Your voice is strong. Go make a point. This is the right way to fight.

    West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently directed the state’s Chief Secretary to ensure that the film ‘The Kerala Story’ is removed from all screens.

    Following Modern Love Mumbai and Modern Love Hyderabad, the makers announced that ‘Modern Love Chennai’ will be out on May 18 on Prime Video.
