    Jagatsingpur: In the tragic incident of students drowning in the Devi River of Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha, the body of two of the students, who had been swept away due to strong water current, have been recovered. Another student is still missing.

    As per reports, four students had gone to Devi River in the Macchagan village under Balikuda Block to take bath. Out of the four, three students were swept away into the deep water probably due to strong water current.

    After getting information, the Fire fighters rushed to the River and started the rescue operation. However, after tough effort for several hours, two bodies of the students have been fished out from the water while one person is still missing.

    As per reports, three friends from Bhubaneswar had visited their friend’s house in Ambasala in Balukuda area and they had gone to take bath in the Devi River.

    The rescue operation was going on and effort was being made to trace out the another missing student by the time this report was written.

This information was given by Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera in the Odisha Assembly on Monday. Responding to a question by Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati, the Minister said that on the basis of the report of the Superintendent of Police, arms license is issued by the District Collector for personal security, sports and target practice and protection of bank property.

    Behera said 1,203 arms licenses have been issued in the industrial town of Angul, followed by Balasore (1,155), Dhenkanal (1,126) and Kalahandia (999). While 325 such licenses were issued in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar Police Commissionerate area, 75 licenses were issued in Raigad district. Arms licenses have been issued to only 11 people in the tribal-dominated Malkangiri district.

Both were residents of the same village.

    When the parents of Guddu Kumar, who was released, came to know about the development, they contacted the jail authorities but to no avail and then wrote letters to the higher authorities. When the matter came to the notice of senior officials, they sought an explanation from Jail Superintendent Brajesh Kumar, who initiated an inquiry into the matter and found negligence on the part of Assistant Superintendent-cum-admission in-charge Priyanka.

    In his report, he has mentioned that Priyanka released another Guddu Kumar without matching his name and address. Based on the report of the jail superintendent, the jail cell suspended Priyanka.

    New Delhi (IANS) | The Delhi High Court on Monday sought the response of the Center on a plea seeking direction to public and private oil companies to make financial contribution to the public transport system of Delhi-NCR to compensate for the environmental damage caused by fossil fuels. A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sachin Datta issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by NGO ‘Sadak Pe Tsunami’ seeking direction to oil companies to contribute funds under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). was demanded.

    The bench sought responses from the ministries of petroleum and natural gas, road transport and highways, and environment and forests.

    The PIL has sought that the government should be directed to set up a committee of technical and environmental experts to explore public transport systems in and around the national capital and make recommendations.

    According to the NGO, a 2018 report by the Ministry of Earth Sciences acknowledged that the transport sector is the main source of PM 2.5 (41 percent) emissions and that vehicular pollution is an important and particularly dangerous pollutant for human health.

    That is why oil companies have a great social responsibility or commitment to reduce vehicular pollution.

    The PIL states, “There is a dire need for a heavily polluted city like Delhi to have a better public transport system. It is a universally accepted fact across the world that to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion, massive Public transport modes are the most important and cost-effective means, especially in Delhi.
