  • Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama made Mongolian child the third biggest teacher of Buddhism

Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama made Mongolian child the third biggest teacher of Buddhism

mcleodganj: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has given China a 440-volt shock and a Mongolian baby born in the US has been named the reincarnation of the third most important spiritual leader in Buddhism. This step of the Dalai Lama is irritating to China and it is believed that with this step, he has drawn Mongolia into the India-China dispute. An eight-year-old Mongolian boy has been named the third greatest guru of Buddhism by the Dalai Lama during a ceremony in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala and his picture has now gone viral on social media. Let us tell you that the Tibetan religious leader and the 87-year-old Dalai Lama live in exile in Dharamsala and there is often a dispute between India and China about the Dalai Lama.

This eight-year-old boy of Mongolian origin has now become the third biggest teacher of Buddhism after Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama. The Dalai Lama has recognized this boy as the reincarnation of the 10th Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa Rinpoche. Mongolian media reports suggest that the child is one of twin boys named Aguidai and Achiltai Altanar, the sons of Altanar Chinchulun and Monkhnasan Narmandakh. The child’s father, Altnar Chinchulun, is a mathematics professor at a university and the CEO of the National Resource Group. The boy’s grandmother, Garmjav Seiden, is a former member of the Mongolian Parliament. The appointment of a Mongolian boy as the spiritual leader of Buddhism can fuel China’s displeasure. (hdm)

    Mongolia’s entry in India-China dispute

For the people of Mongolia, these developments are a matter of both excitement and surprise. Along with this, Mongolia is also apprehensive about possible enmity with China. Earlier in 1995, when the Dalai Lama had chosen the Panchen Lama, the second highest spiritual leader of Buddhism, the child was immediately arrested by the Chinese authorities and replaced with their own candidate. Therefore, there remains a strong apprehension as to what China will do when the current Dalai Lama himself leaves his body.

  • British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described Harry Kane as an ‘all time great’

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described Harry Kane as an ‘all time great’

UK PM Rishi Sunak had a facetime chat with the England and Tottenham Hotspurs captain Harry Kane on Thursday. Kane, who recently became England’s all-time highest scorer with 54 goals, is receiving congratulatory messages from all over his country and the football world for the feat he has achieved. However, among the many senders, there was also a bearer who holds the top most position in Britain.

Rishi Sunak and Harry Kane indulged in a conversation that saw the Prime Minister asking the striker whether the next goal in his sight is breaking Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record. To which he replied, given that he has still many years left under his belt, thus he’d love to take that torch from Shearer. Here’s the transcript of the frank call that took place between them.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hails Harry Kane
The PM said, “Just to say a massive congratulations to you for not just Thursday’s result, but for what you’ve achieved personally. That you are the all time great, and it is an incredible accomplishment. You are an amazing role model for our country in the way in which you go about your business… you’re scoring all the goals, but you do it with humility. You talk about your team-mates – you can see how they respect you – and it just speaks volumes about your character that they do. That’s rare… you should just feel incredibly good about that.”

‘Given how young you are I know you’ll be very humble about it but Premier League all-time goal-scoring record in your sights right?’ asked Sunak.

‘Yeah it’s definitely there,’ Kane replied. ‘You know, I’m getting closer so it’s for sure something I want to achieve, but I try not to look too far ahead in football.

‘You know, a lot can change in a short period of time, but I’m 29, so hopefully got plenty of years left. So for sure it’d be something I’d love to do.’

Shearer’s Premier League record stands at 260 goals — though he also scored 23 goals in the old First Division, so the real record is 283 goals.

Kane is now No 3 on the all-time list on 204 goals, just four behind Rooney. But it will take him at least two seasons to get past Shearer’s Premier League record and maybe four more seasons to beat 283.

As for the future at Tottenham Hotspurs, Harry Kane still has a year left in his contract and it would be of great interest to the football world to witness whether he will extend his term at spurs or will look for a new destination. There’s growing interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich. So to break Shearer’s record, Kane would have to stay in England which may rule out a move to the Allianz arena.

  • Modi urges people to adopt organ donation

Modi urges people to adopt organ donation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to people to opt for organ donation, and said his government is working on a uniform policy that will make the process easy and encourage people to adopt the life-saving exercise.

Those who donate their organs after death are “godlike” to recipients, he said in his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio broadcast, adding that people’s preference for it can save and make many lives.

“It is a matter of satisfaction that the awareness about organ donation is rising in the country,” Modi said, noting that the condition of being a state domicile for receiving organs has been removed to allow the needy to register themselves anywhere in the country.

A decision to remove the age criteria of being less than 65 years for donating organs has also been taken, he added.

From less than 5,000 cases of organ donations in 2013, the number has grown to over 15,000 in 2022, he said. Organ donation from one deceased person can help eight to nine persons, he noted.

The prime minister also spoke to family members of those whose organs were donated after death. This included an Amritsar-based couple who decided to donate the organs of their daughter who passed away 39 days after being born with a fatal condition.

Modi effusively praised the families for opting to donate the organs of their deceased members.

He said, “Great donors like them make us understand the importance of life. A large number of needy people are waiting for an organ donor in the hope of a healthy life. It is a matter of utmost satisfaction for me that, to make organ donation easy and to encourage it, work is being done on a uniform policy in the whole country.” Modi also noted that the cases of corona are rising in some places and asked people to take precautions.

In the field of clean energy, he said, India’s growing presence is being lauded globally.

The speed with which India is moving forward in the field of solar energy is a big achievement in itself, he said, noting that Diu has become the first district in India to consume only clean energy for all day time needs.

“Through solar panels, more electricity is being generated in Diu than required during the day time. Through this solar project, about 52 crore rupees have also been saved. The environment has also benefitted a lot,” he said, encouraging the use of clean energy.

In his address, the prime minister lauded the increasing presence of women in different fields, and said “woman power” is playing a big role in India’s growing strength.

He mentioned several examples, including that of Surekha Yadav becoming the first women loco pilot in Asia.

Producer Guneet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves brought laurels to the country by winning an Oscar for their documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’, he said and also lauded women’s role in the NDRF’s relief and rescue work in Turkiye.

Modi said, “India has also deployed a Women-only Platoon in the Peacekeeping Force under the UN Mission.” Noting the recent celebration of ancient ties between people of Varanasi and Tamil Nadu though the ‘Kashi-Tamil Sangamam’ held in the holy city, he said ‘Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam’ will be held in different parts of Gujarat during April 17-30.

Such programmes are driven by the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat’, he said.

Amid the ongoing official celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of Assamese general Lachit Borphukan, credited for defeating the Mughals, Modi said people will be surprised to know that about 45 lakh people sent essays on his life as part of a campaign. “You will also be happy to know that now it has become a Guinness record,” he said.

The essays have been written in 23 languages, he said.

In his address, Modi also mentioned the rising demand for Kashmir’s lotus stems not only in India but abroad as well and the boost in farmers’ income of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhadarwah after they began growing lavender.

“A few days ago, the grand temple of Maa Sharda was inaugurated in Kupwara. This temple is built on the same route one would use to go to visit Sharda Peeth. Local people have helped a lot in its construction. I congratulate the people of Jammu and Kashmir for this auspicious work,” he said.

Modi also asked people to share their ideas for the 100th episode of the programme scheduled for next month.

‘Beated’ in school, student dies in Bihar

A seven-year-old student has died after being allegedly beaten up at a residential school in Bihar’s Saharsa district for not completing his homework.

The school owner is the prime suspect in the case.

The incident took place at Bodhi Public School at Hussain Chak under Simri Bakhtiyarpur police station on Thursday. Victim Aditya Yadav was in lower kindergarten and staying there as a boarding student.

“Our sir beat up Aditya very badly with a stick on Wednesday for not doing his homework. It was the second consecutive day he was beaten. He took his meals in the evening and went to bed. When I tried to wake him up the next morning (Thursday) for brushing his teeth, he did not wake up. His body had become stiff,” Shivam Kumar, a Class IV student and a hostel inmate told reporters.

“We carried Aditya to sir. He took a look and told us he (Aditya) has died, but he would take him to a hospital,” Shivam added and identified‘sir’ as school owner Sujit Kumar Mehta.

Mehta called up Aditya’sfather Prakash Yadav and told him that his son had fallen ill and was being taken to hospital.

Sources said the boy was first taken to a local quack, identified as Shambhu Prasad, who asked Mehta to take him to a hospital. He was then admitted to Asha Nursing Home in Saharsa town.

“The boy was already dead when they brought him to our hospital,” said doctor Dinesh Kumar of Asha Nursing Home.

Aditya’s father submitted a complaint at the Sadar police station and later registered an FIR against Mehta at Simri Bakhtiyarpur police station.

Simri Bakhtiyarpur police station in-charge Mahesh Kumar Rajak said an FIR was registered on Friday.

“The FIR has been registered under IPC Section 302(murder). The school owner is absconding and we are trying to nab him,” Mahesh said.

  • Muslim quota abolished in Karnataka

    Muslim quota abolished in Karnataka

The BJP government in Karnataka has been widely criticised for scrapping the 4 per cent reservation for Muslims within the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and redistributing the quota among the politically influential Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities ahead of the Assembly elections.

The cabinet on Friday scrapped the 4 per cent reservation for Muslims under the OBC quota and included them in the 10 per cent quota for Economically Weaker Sections that include multiple communities such as Brahmins and other upper castes.

The 4 per cent quota docked from Muslims has been equally split between the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities whose share in OBC reservation would increase to 7 and 6 per cent, respectively.

Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai justified the move by saying there was no scope for religion-based reservation under the Constitution. He said the poor from all communities would qualify for the EWS quota.

While Lingayats have for long been the BJP’s key vote bank, the party fears losing sections of the community, which is why they have been tapping into the Vokkaliga community.

Senior Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao tweeted: “This is BJP’s divide & insult policy. Why sacrifice Muslims so that you can appease Lingayats & Vokkaligas? Both could’ve been given separate reservation.”

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani condemned the tinkering with the reservation for Muslims and termed it as“harmful to the comprehensive development policy of the country”.

A statement issued by the organisation quoted Maulana Madani as saying that not all Muslims in Karnataka were covered under the reservation. “Unfortunately, the BJPdispensation always claims that reservations cannot be given on religious grounds, but it never considers Muslim backwardness. As far as the Karnataka issue is concerned, religion is not the basis here and not all Muslims are benefiting from it. Only 12 backward Muslim communities are covered.”
