Can’t allow our sea routes to be used to transport drugs: Amit Shah

Bengaluru (IANS) | Declaring war on drugs, Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the fight against drugs would be successful only when it is taken to the people. Addressing a regional convention of southern states titled ‘Drugs smuggling and national security’ here, Shah said, “Our sea routes should not be allowed to be used for transportation of narcotics. The Navy and the police of some states will have to intervene.

The Home Minister said that many ships traveling between Pakistan and Iran are often loaded with narcotics, which are supplied from Sri Lanka to the US. This has to be stopped, Shah insisted, otherwise we cannot stop drugs from entering India.

Shah said, “We cannot take this matter lightly. If the drug, whoever is selling it, is not destroyed, it will be sold here. Our aim is to weaken drug peddlers anywhere in the world.” Should be.” The Home Minister also said that he was pained that the provisions of the NDPS Act were not being fully utilized by the states.

He said, I appeal to all the states and concerned departments to unite in the campaign against drugs, other intoxicants, culprits and addiction. Timely response is the need of the hour. Shah said that though tackling the drug menace is the primary responsibility of the Home Ministry, other departments like revenue, social welfare, education and culture should join hands with the health department to eliminate this menace.

Shah also warned the states to be careful about seized drugs as the Home Ministry is getting information that drugs are being stolen from police custody at some places. On the occasion, Shah gave the go-ahead to destroy 9,298 kg of seized drugs worth Rs 1,235 crore.

YSRCP suspends four rebel MLAs for cross-voting

Amaravati (IANS) | Andhra Pradesh’s ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Friday suspended four rebel MLAs who voted for the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate from the MLA quota in the Legislative Council elections. The YSRCP announced the suspension of four MLAs a day after suffering a crushing defeat for one of the seven council seats under the MLA quota.

While two of the four, Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and Anam Ramanaraya Reddy, had already raised the flag of rebellion, the other two, Mekapati Chandrasekhara Reddy and Undavalli Sridevi, were identified after the MLC election results on Thursday.

Interestingly, the action against Sridhar Reddy comes hours after he joined the TDP. YSRCP general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy told mediapersons that the party’s disciplinary committee has decided to suspend the four MLAs. The decision has been taken after discussion with party president and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Sajjala alleged that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu has bought each MLA for Rs 10 to 15 crores. He said the party took this action after it came to the conclusion that the four MLAs resorted to cross-voting.

The YSRCP leader alleged that the four MLAs voted for the TDP candidate as they were lured with money by the TDP.

In the 175-member assembly, the YSRCP has 151 members and was confident of getting the votes of four rebel TDP MLAs and the lone Jana Sena Party (JSP) MLA.

  • Goa minister asks MLAs to come an hour earlier for assembly session

Goa minister asks MLAs to come an hour earlier for assembly session

Panaji (IANS) | Amid heavy traffic jams in Panaji and its outskirts, senior leader and Energy Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Friday asked legislators and government officials to report an hour earlier for the assembly session beginning on March 27. Due to the closure of Atal Setu bridge in Panaji over Mandovi river, commuters going towards Maharashtra using two other bridges (adjacent to Atal Setu) are seen stuck in long spiraling queues.

Sudin Dhavalikar said that there are major problems on the Atal Setu bridge and heavy vehicles going towards Maharashtra are causing traffic jams. So, all the MLAs and officials should come an hour earlier. This is not a man-made disaster.

The Goa Legislative Assembly complex is located in Porvorim, so people coming from Panaji have to cross the Mandovi bridge to reach here. “We will also solve the problem of traffic jam at Porvorim by programming the signals and giving extra minutes to the zigzag queues,” Dhavalikar said.

Talking about the traffic jam in Panaji city, Dhavalikar said that it is happening because the work on war-footing for the G-20 meetings is going on. After the completion of these works, the traffic will be smooth.

Atal Setu 5.1 kilometer long cable stayed bridge was opened in February 2019. At present, asphalt and other work is going on on this bridge, so it has been closed for traffic.
