Hardik Pandya Completely Ignores Virat Kohli, Video Goes Viral
Hardik Pandya, who was the stand-in captain for India in the 1st ODI against Australia, ignored Virat Kohli during a field-setting discussion in the match. The visuals suggest Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav were contemplating a field placement, and seemingly upon not reaching an agreement, captain Pandya took matters in his own hand to guide the fielder to move and take the position. Kohli seemingly wasn’t pleased with Pandya’s decision.
It was the 21st over of the game, and a new batter had just come in in the form of Josh Inglis. Australia were 139 for 3 and the bowl was in the hand of Kuldeep Yadav. Before delivering the ball, Yadav saw Kohli and Pandya talk about a field placement. While Kohli was pointing toward a direction where the fielder was needed, Pandya apparently did not take notice of Virat and placed the fielder where he felt was necessary. Here’s the clip of the episode.

Labuschagne and Marsh continued the flow of runs and built a quick 50-run stand, however, soon after, Marsh, who was going strong, fell for 81. Madal needed for custodial interrogation: Lokayukta police
BENGALURU: The Lokayukta police on Friday argued before the high court that Channagiri BJP MLA and former chairman of the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KSDL) K Madal Virupakshappa is required for custodial interrogation to obtain more information as he is not cooperating with the investigation and giving evasive answers.
The counsel for the Lokayukta police told the court that Virupakshappa, who is on interim anticipatory bail, has not even shared his phone number with the investigating officer.
The submission was made before Justice K Natarajan, who is hearing the anticipatory bail petition by Virupakshappa in a graft case registered by the Lokayukta police on March 2, 2023, against him and his son MV Prashanth Kumar, chief accountant of BWSSB.
Submitting interrogation details in a sealed cover along with the statement of objections to the bail plea, the counsel argued that they have provided the statement of the managing director of KSDL and his Whatsapp conversation with Prashanth Kumar. Also, Virupakshappa’s daughter-in-law stated that the bedroom where Rs 6.10 crore was seized belonged to him.
Virupakshappa’s counsel argued that there are no allegations against his client in the FIR on the demand and acceptance of bribe and it was registered only on the presumption that he was taking 30 per cent of the contract amount as bribe from the bidders to supply chemicals to KSDL. Prima facie, there is no material to attract the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Virupakshappa resigned as KSDL chairman after the FIR was registered and his son was arrested. He was also not a party to the committee that clears the tenders, he argued.
He said that though the accused is cooperating with the investigation by appearing every day, the Lokayukta police have filed objections saying there are chances of him threatening witnesses, influencing potential witnesses and tampering with evidence as he is an MLA.

Piped gas accident due to compromised safety
BENGALURU: The supply of piped gas to homes for cooking in the absence of strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure safety has made houses vulnerable to fire accidents.
The Thursday gas leak in HSR Layout, which injured two women, is an incident that has opened the eyes to this vulnerability — especially when cracks in the pipes are sealed without proper protocols being followed, as has been revealed to be the cause of this fire accident.
Although Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has filed a complaint against Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board (BWSSB) engineers over the incident, the latter said it will be asking GAIL for a list of locations where gas pipelines are passing through BWSSB manholes.
While GAIL has blamed BWSSB for not following SOPs, BWSSB officials said it was the first time such an incident had come to light wherein a gas pipeline passed through a manhole. Officials in the Infrastructure Development Department (IDD) and Urban Development Department (UDD) have said this raised concerns about the SOPs to be followed. “Using piped natural gas is the future and the government is working on this.
But such incidents do raise safety concerns. It is thus important that not just the citizens, but also the agencies and the contractors follow due safety procedures listed out,” said a UDD official.
‘Pipeline passing through manhole is dangerous’
“In this case, both the agencies (BWSSB and GAIL) are at equal fault and a detailed report will be sought from both,” the UDD official added. GAIL has been operating in Bengaluru since last eight years. They have laid around 2000 km of gas pipelines in the city connected to around 1.5 lakh homes, of which 67,000 are already using piped gas.In 2019, when a major blast occurred inside a home in Agrahara due to a gas leak, the government had directed setting up SOPs to be followed, holding all civic agencies and GAIL responsible and parties to it. As per the SOPs, every digging work is to be undertaken, if there is a gas pipeline around it, GAIL has to be informed and involved in the work.
“In this case, we were not informed. This was the first mistake. The other was when a crack occurred in the gas pipeline, we should have been informed and let the crack be left open. The contractor should not have covered it with soil. This shifted the pressure of around 2-3 kg gas from one location to the nearest opening and that’s why the blast occurred. To avoid such incidents, citizens can also help by informing GAIL immediately, when they see any digging happening around any gas pipeline,” said a GAIL official.
Meanwhile, BWSSB Chief Engineer (South), Venkatesh SV, said they will be asking GAIL to give a detailed list and points of where their gas pipelines pass through manholes, or near manholes. “I have never come across a gas pipeline passing inside a manhole. This is dangerous. Both the parties are at fault,” he said.
The IDD official said the government was also writing to GAIL to undertake safety awareness campaigns. GAIL has also been directed to increase its staff strength for patrolling teams to immediately reach sites and take up self checks in the areas where digging and repair works are taking place.

Revenue inspector sentenced to 5 years in bribery case
BENGALURU: A Special Court sentenced a revenue inspector to five years of rigorous imprisonment for demanding and taking a bribe. The court ordered the offender to pay a fine of Rs 4 lakh, double the amount of bribe he had taken.
GC Suresh (51), attached to Nada Kacheri in Kengeri, was charged by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for offences punishable under Section 7, 13(a)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
On the quantum of punishment, Special Judge K Lakshminarayana Bhat said: “The sentence to be imposed on the offender will have far-reaching consequences, in particular on other like-minded public servants working in the revenue department who are involved in corruption.
After considering age and other mitigating factors, this court finds it just and proper to sentence the offender to rigorous imprisonment for a period of five years.” The court said that, in a recent judgment, the Supreme Court held that corruption is a malaise pervading every walk of life. If the corrupt succeed in duping law enforcers, their success erodes even the fear of getting caught…Tracking down corrupt public servants and punishing them appropriately is the mandate of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” the court said.
Threw cash on ground
Suresh had demanded Rs 5 lakh as bribe, and after negotiation, agreed to Rs 4 lakh to register names in the mutation register, on the basis of a registered sale deed. He was caught red-handed, accepting Rs 2 lakh on September 2, 2016, from the informant, in Nagarabhavi in the city. On noticing the police, the accused, threw the plastic bag of cash on the ground. -

Colombia coal mine explosion, death toll rises to 21
Bogota: The death toll from a coal mine blast earlier this week in Colombia’s Cundinamarca has increased to 21 after the bodies of 10 trapped miners were found, President Gustavo Petro announced.
“I have just been informed by the Governor … that despite all rescue efforts, unfortunately 21 people lost their lives in this tragic accident in Sutatausa,” Xinhua news agency quoted the President as saying on Thursday.
“Labour and business restructuring plans in coal mining areas have become increasingly essential. Each worker death is not only a business failure, but also a social and governmental failure,” he added.
Cundinamarca Governor Nicolas Garcia said the rescuers had sighted the 10 bodies and had begun the extraction process.
He said families of the victims will have the full support of the government with social and psychological services, as well as economic aid.
Eight of the nine miners who survived the explosion were treated in hospital and later discharged, while the ninth remained under observation, according to Cundinamarca fire captain Alvaro Farfan.
Farfan said the National Mining Agency will begin an investigation to determine the cause of the blast in the interconnected mines belonging to the Minminer company, which have been in operation for 30 years.
The National Mining Agency said it has ordered the suspension of Minminer’s activities, and initiated an evaluation of the state of the mines after the explosion.

Jitan Ram Manjhi claims Ravan was greater than Ram
Patna: Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi triggered a fresh row on Friday after he said that Ravan was a greater character than Ram.
Manjhi said: “When Ram was in trouble, some divine powers always helped him, which was not the case with Ravan. Hence, Ravan was a greater character than Ram.”
Manjhi, however, also said that Ram and Ravan were imaginary characters in Ramcharitmanas and Ramayana, but in whatever way the writers presented the characters on the basis of their imagination, Ravan had an edge over Ram.
When asked whether his statement could create a controversy, Manjhi said: “I am telling the truth. Rahul Shankritayan and others had said that Ram is an imaginary character. While most who said that were Brahmins, no one would question them. But some people will accuse me for saying the same.”
“Ramcharitmanas is a very good book but it has many points which are wrong. B.R. Ambedkar and Ram Manohar Lohia had also said that the wrongful content should be removed,” Manjhi said.
“Ramayans was written by Valmiki, but no one worshiped him. On the other hand, Ramcharitmanas was written by Tulsi Das and hence every one worships him. People having Manuvadi ideology have made such a system,” he said.
