Hyderabad: State-owned Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) on Monday introduced nine air-conditioned sleeper buses equipped with free Wi-Fi services. State Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar formally launched the buses which will initially operate to destinations like Bengaluru, Hubli, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Chennai. TSRTC has procured 16 AC sleeper buses and nine of them have been pressed into service from Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Kumar said that TSRTC had placed an order for 760 new buses and out of them more than 400 buses have already reached the depot. TSRTC chairman Bajireddy Govardhan said that with the ‘Lahari’ buses, the corporation is offering state-of-the-art services to commuters at par with private operators. TSRTC vice-chairman and managing director V.S. Sajjanar said that 1,300 EV buses will be made operational soon. The AC sleeper buses are the latest offering from TSRTC, which has recently introduced new super luxury, non-AC sleeper and seater-cum-sleeper buses. Like non AC sleeper AC sleeper buses are named as ‘Lahari’. The 12 meter long AC sleeper bus has 15 lower and 15 upper berths. Provision has been made to keep water bottle next to the berth. Mobile charging facility is also provided. Keeping in mind the safety of passengers, the bus is equipped with vehicle tracking system and panic button. It will be connected to TSRTC control room. Passengers traveling in AC sleeper buses will also get free Wi-Fi facility. There are two CCTV cameras installed in each bus. There is also a reverse parking assistance camera. The front and rear of the bus will have LED boards to display details of the destination and stop, officials said. There is also a public address system in the bus to give information to the passengers. The vehicles will also have state-of-the-art Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS). In case of fire in the bus, the system sends an instant alert.

TSPSC paper leak: Question 15 students who scored above 100
Hyderabad: The 15 candidates, who secured above 100 marks in the Telangana State Public Service Commission’s (TSPSC) Group 1 preliminary exam were grilled by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday, suspecting them of having access to the leaked papers.
Police officials called the suspects on the mobile numbers submitted by the candidate during the one-time registration (OTR) of TSPSC.
However, no arrests were made on Sunday, confirmed officials.
While speaking to the media, a Group I candidate said, “We were asked to fill out a form with details of our date of birth, occupation, TSPSC one-time registration number and academic credentials.”
“They are checking our background and banking transactions,” the student said after interrogation by the SIT officials.
When asked if he had genuinely scored above 100 marks, he said that it is achievable for those who have prepared for UPSC (civil services) recruitment.
An elderly person, the father of another applicant, revealed that the SIT questioned his son about whether he had any information regarding the leakage before it came to light. He added that his son had estimated a score of 95 marks based on the answer key, but ultimately scored 101 as per the final results.
TSPSC had cancelled the Group 1 preliminary examination after confirming that the question paper was leaked by its staff.
13 persons, including four government employees, in connection with the case, have already been arrested by the police.

D Srinivas all set to rejoin Congress
Hyderabad: Veteran leader and former TRS Rajya Sabha MP D Srinivas is set to re-join the Congress party.
Srinivas played a key role to bring back Congress into power in 2004 and 2009. His son D Arvind is the sitting BJP MP from Nizamabad.
Once he joins the party, he is going to participate in the ‘Satyagraha’ protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha, Congress said.
“Rahul Gandhi is my leader. How can you say that he doesn’t have the eligibility (of being an MP)? Given the sacrifices made by that family & their experience, you can’t question his eligibility. I am joining the party today. I shall be a part of their ongoing protest,” he said, speaking to the media.

One person died in a road accident
Hyderabad: In an unfortunate incident, a motorist died in a road accident involving a bike and auto rickshaw at Rajendranagar on Sunday morning.
The man Anji (32), sustained injuries after falling from the bike and died on the spot.
On information the police reached the spot and shifted the body to mortuary. A case is registered and the auto driver taken into custody. The auto is also seized.

Man allegedly dies in Kerala police custody
According to the police, P Manoharan, who was caught during a vehicle inspection, was transferred to the Hill Palace police station in Tripunithura, Ernakulam district, where he passed away en route to the hospital.
However, witnesses and Manoharan’s family claim that the police physically attacked him before torturing him at the station. According to a senior police official, a police sub-inspector was suspended in connection with the incident, and the state government has mandated a crime branch enquiry.
Eyewitnesses claim that Manoharan was detained by the police after failing to halt his scooter when told to do so by officers. He was allegedly attacked by the police, who then dragged him to the station. As Manoharan passed away, a mob of incensed protesters surrounded the police station where he had been detained.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress both organised protest marches to the police station in the meantime, calling for action against all police officers who were on duty when Manoharan was taken into prison. -
139 new cases of Kovid-19 were reported in Delhi
New Delhi: Delhi recorded 139 fresh coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 4.98 per cent on Saturday, according to data shared by the health department. Delhi reported 152 coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 6.66 per cent on Friday. It had logged 117 cases with a positivity rate of 4.95 per cent on Thursday. The city had recorded cases in three-digit figures last October. Delhi has seen an increase in the number of fresh Covid cases over the last few days amid a sharp rise in H3N2 influenza cases in the country. The city registered 84 coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 5.08 per cent on Wednesday. On Tuesday, it had reported 83 cases with a positivity rate of 5.83 per cent and a fatality. The number of fresh cases had seen a decline over the past few months in Delhi. It had dropped to zero on January 16, the first time since the pandemic began ravaging countries. With the fresh cases, the national capital’s COVID-19 case tally has increased to 20,08,579, while the death toll stands at 26,524. The health department data also showed that 2,793 tests were conducted on Frday. Forty-two of the 7,984 beds are occupied in dedicated COVID-19 hospitals, while 293 patients are in home isolation, it said. The number of active cases in the national capital currently stands at 471, the data showed.

15 government degree students leave for UK for study tour
Hyderabad: About fifteen girl students of government run degree colleges were given an opportunity to fly to United Kingdom to take part in the Scholarships for Outstanding Undergraduate Talent (SCOUT), a two-week study tour.
The girls belonging from underprivileged backgrounds has got this chance as part operational alliance agreement between Telangana government and British Council.
Five students from Government Degree Colleges, six from Social Welfare Residential Degree Colleges and four from Tribal Welfare Residential Degree Colleges were selected for the tour on merit basis and has left for the UK on Sunday.
As part of the tour, girl students will visit the University of Glasgow, Scotland, for a short-term course on skilling besides they will be visiting research facilities in the university. Students are being accompanied by two faculty members. They thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Commissioner of Collegiate and Technical Education Navin Mittal for the opportunity.

Old man killed on suspicion of witchcraft
Sundergarh: An elderly man was allegedly hacked to death over witchcraft suspicion at Kulabapada village under Kinjirkela police station limits in Sundargarh district of Odisha today. The deceased has been identified as Haladhar Bhoi.
As per the allegation of the family members, Bhoi was killed by some unknown persons while he was walking on the village road all alone. They filed a written complaint at Kinjirkela police station.
While the exact death of the deceased is yet to be known, it is suspected that he was killed over suspected witchcraft.Police started an investigation into the matter after seizing Bhoi’s body and sending it to the hospital for postmortem.
Police detained a youth for interrogation.

CM congratulates Nikhat Zareen on winning gold in Women’s World Boxing Championship
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated Nikhat Zareen for winning the gold in the 50 kg category finals of the Women’s World Boxing Championships held at New Delhi.
She beat two time Asian champion from Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Tam five-zero in the finals of the light weight category.
A native of Telangana, she won the second gold medal for India in the women’s boxing championship. It was a matter of pride for entire State and the nation, the Chief Minister said.
He said Telangana government was committed in developing sporting infrastructure in the State and ensuring the welfare of sportspersons.
