    Light to moderate thunderstorms likely in these 3 districts

    Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on Saturday predicted a light to moderate thundershower in some parts of three districts of Odisha. The said three districts are Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur.

    People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike.

    The Meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning for rain for some places in North, interior, South and coastal parts of the state on 26th March. On March 27, there may be more rain in the North and coastal Odisha. According to the weather forecast center, rain is likely to occur in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Khorda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh and Dhenkanal on 27th March.

    Hemp worth Rs 40 lakh seized in Odisha’s Malkangiri district

    Malkangiri: Around 390 kg of ganja (dry cannabis) worth Rs 40 lakh was seized by the excise official during a series of raids at multiple locations of the district on Friday.

    The excise superintendent and a special team constructed on the instructions of the district collector reportedly conducted a raid after obtaining a tip-off from a reliable source about the ganja.

    As per reports, the team intercepted a person who was moving in a suspicious manner near Pipalpadar area. They found some ganja in his possession while checking him.

    Later, the team searched his house and recovered around 330 kg of ganja. It is suspected that the person had stored the ganja to smuggle it to other parts of the country.

    In a similar case, around 30 kg of ganja was seized near Balimela. The team intercepted a person, who was allegedly transporting the contraband on a motorcycle.

    A senior official said that they seized around 390 kg of ganja, which had an estimated market value of around Rs 40 lakh from two persons. Two separate cases have been registered and further investigation in this connection is underway.

    Nuapada: Tiger attacks in Nuapada has led to terror among villagers. The Forest Department on Saturday has cautioned the locals using a PA system.

    The Forest Department reached the village and recorded the footprints of the predator. The Department has cautioned that there are two tigers in the area.

    According to reports, it has been alleged that a calf of Mohradihi village was killed and eaten by a tiger in Nuapada district of Odisha.

    During the day, the predator lives in the protected forest adjacent to the Sunabeda Sanctuary. In the evening, the villagers have complained that the cows are being eaten by the tiger and the carcasses of the cattle are strewn in the forest floor area.

    A scary incident had taken place in Nuapada district of Odisha on Sunday evening. An old woman was attacked by a tiger behind her house on March 20, 2023.

    The incident took place in Jalamdei village under Komna police station under Sunabeda sanctuary of Nuapada district. The woman has been identified as Sanmati Barik, she is said to be around 65 years of age.

    According to information, yesterday evening, while collecting firewood in the backyard of her house in Jalamdei village, a tiger came and pounced on her. As she did not return home until late at night, the family searched for him but could not find her.

    The local people found the old woman’s dismembered body lying in the forest this morning. Half of the old woman’s body was seen eaten by a tiger. This could have been the work of a large tiger, said Sunabeda forest department ranger Shiva Prasad Khamari informed.

    Puri: The 5T Secretary of Odisha V. K. Pandian, has visited the famous Jagannath Temple Puri earlier on Saturday, said reliable reports.

    This morning, he went to Puri to see Lord Jagannath and reviewed the progress of the historic Heritage Corridor Project around the temple. The 5T Secretary supervised how much of the project work has been completed and how much is yet to be done.

    The 5T Secretary of Odisha discussed the progress of the work with the officials in the Green, the Yellow and the Buffer Zones. The target is to complete the construction work of the project before the next Rath Yatra.

    According to the instructions of the Chief Minister the 5T Secretary, Chief Secretary are going to Puri at different times and supervising the project work progress.

    Currently, the outer access road construction is under progress at a fast pace. After completion of this, inner access road, connection of outer access road with Meghnad wall will be undertaken.

    Later, the passenger waiting hall, meditation center, corridor to avoid traffic problem will be constructed.

    Later today, the 5T secretary is scheduled to visit the Silver City of Cuttack. The Cuttack District Collector informed that the 5T secretary will visit Cuttack today. In Cuttack he is scheduled to check the progress of the work in the famous Cuttack Chandi Temple.

    Balasore: In a tragic incident, a man injured in the cylinder blast has succumbed to the injuries on Saturday, said reliable reports. The man was being treated in SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

    In the same incident, a newborn baby of 40 days was killed while four other members of the family were injured following an LPG cylinder blast in Odisha’s Balasore district on March 21, 2023.

    The mishap took place at Balaramgadi village of the district while the family members were busy preparing food for dinner.

    The intensity of the gas cylinder blast was so severe that the newborn died on the spot, said sources adding that other four family members sustained critical burn injuries.

    The injured persons were rescued by the neighbours and rushed to the local hospital for treatment, the sources further added.
