    Nigerian arrested for ‘fraud’

    A joint team of the Malda cyber crime police and Uttar Pradesh police arrested a Nigerian national from Noida for allegedly being a part of a group that conned Rs 15 lakh from a Malda woman two years ago.

    Accused Chibuzo Christiano was brought here and produced in a local court on Monday.

    Sources said that in 2021, a woman from Malda’s Mothabari filed a complaint with the cyber crime police that a man she got to know on social media cheated her of Rs 15 lakh while promising to marry her.

    Police started a probe and arrested Benedict, a Nigerian national, and Golu Singh, his aide, in Delhi last August.

    “In the course of our investigations, we learnt another Nigerian was involved with them. They run a racket to cheat money under various pretexts,” said a police officer.

    Hence, a police team was sent to UP where it contacted the local police and together nabbed Christiano a couple of days back. Police said they would quiz him on his aides

    New Delhi: Days after a video went viral showing a woman being pushed inside a car by a man on a busy road in Delhi, she said that the incident took place following a fight with her fiance, adding that it was a misunderstanding which has since been resolved.

    “It was a misunderstanding between my fiance and me. We had a fight over a personal matter and later we patched up,” the woman said in a video message while thanking Delhi Police for being protective.

    The incident occurred on the night of March 18.

    The Delhi Police had traced the woman and her fiance who were seen pushing her into the cab after an altercation in Mangolpuri.

    16 year old girl drowned in Yadadri’s Pushkarini Ghat

    Yadadri-Bhongir: Panic triggered among the authorities of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple after a series of drowning incidents in the temple pond. In a recent incident that took place on Tuesday, a 16-year-old boy drowned in the Lakshmi Pushkarini (temple pond) near the Yadadri hill shrine.

    According to the sources, the victim is learnt to be from Amarachinthala of Athmakur mandal in Wanaparthy district. He is said to have visited the temple with his mother to Yadagirigutta on Monday evening.

    On Tuesday morning, he suffered seizures while taking a bathe in the pond after which he is believed to have drowned. Further details are awaited.

    It is to mention here that in May 2022, a 15-year-old girl from Hyderabad also drowned in the same pond. Similarly, a 19-year-old youngster also drowned in the pond in September last year.

    Following the incidents, the temple authorities have shut the gates of the bathing ghats to take up preventive and safety measures.

    Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha submitted mobile phones, used by her in the past, before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as crucial evidence in the now-scrapped Delhi Liquor Policy Scam.

    K. Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, appeared before the ED here on Tuesday for the third round of questioning in the case.

    Kumram Bheem Asifabad: The residents were left in a shock for sometime after mild tremors were felt in parts of Koutala, Bejjur and Chintalamanepalli mandals on Tuesday for a few seconds.

    Residents of the three mandals said they sensed tremors in the ground for a brief while. They came out of their homes. These mandals are situated on the banks of Pranahita river, a tributary of Godavari and on the borders of Maharashtra.

    Incidentally, parts of the bordering Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district also felt the tremors for a second.

    Hyderabad: In an unfortunate incident, a school bus carrying 40 students crashed into a tree and slid over a trench, leaving two kids injured and the remaining were reported to be safe. This incident took place on Monday afternoon. According to Shamirpet Police, the driver dozed off at the when leading to the accident. However, he was not drunk, police officials clarified.

    The bus belonged to Sri Chaitanya School, Majeedpur, and was dropping the students at Thumkunta, and at around 1 pm the bus hit a tree near a tea shop at Dongala Mysamma. The children were taken to a hospital for first aid and sent back home after treatment by the school management, the police added.

    30 Covid cases in Rajasthan, 2 deaths

    Jaipur: Two persons died while 30 others tested positive for Covid-19 in Rajasthan on Sunday, taking the state’s active caseload to 117, raising concerns over the return of the deadly virus in the desert state.

    Of the two deaths, one was reported from Bhilwara and the other from Jaipur.

    Bhilwara, which once became the hotspot for Covid infections, has 19 active cases, followed by Udaipur (29), Jaipur (23), Bikaner (12), Rajsamand (11), Jodhpur (seven), Jalore (five), and Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Kota and Bharatpur (one each).

    A total of 2,137 samples were tested on Sunday, out of which 30 returned positive, health officials confirmed.

    On Saturday, the state had reported 24 fresh cases one death, which was reported from Bhilwara.

    Bhilwara District Collector Ashish Modi said, “At present, the corona infection is spreading and the numbers may rise rapidly. I appeal to the residents of Bhilwara district to follow all the Covid guidelines. Wash your hands regularly, use masks and avoid crowds.”

    Earlier, four Australian tourists had tested positive last Wednesday, who were kept under observation at the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) here as a precautionary measure.

    RUHS superintendent Ajit Singh said the four Australians, who were staying in a hotel in Sawai Madhopur, were brought to Jaipur after they were found infected with Covid-19.

    Singh said of the four, three are symptomatic while one has cold.

    Meanwhile, a health official said, “Sampling and surveillance has been a regular feature here. Cases have increased as the temperature declined in the last few days. The sampling process will be increased if the need arises.”

    Hyderabad: Ahead of the holy month of Ramzan, Minority Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar has directed the officials concerned to take adequate measures for the celebration of Ramzan and instructed them that the arrangements should be put in place for the convenience of people in the city.

    A high-level meeting was held on Monday, by Minister Koppula Eshwar. Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Labour Minister Mallareddy, Government Advisor AK Khan, AIMIM MLAs Jaffer Hussain Meraj (Nampally), Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala (Malakpet), Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri (Yakutpura), Mumtaz Ahmed Khan (Charminar), Telangana State Wakf Board Chairman Masiullah Khan, Police commissioner C V Anand, senior officials from GHMC, HMWSSB, TSSPDCL and other departments were present in the meeting.

    Minister Koppula Eshwar said that since the formation of Telangana State, the government was making adequate arrangements for all the festivals. He directed to take up the road repair, sanitation and lighting arrangement works near mosques to ensure that people may not face any inconvenience during the holy month of Ramzan. Directions were also issued to the concerned department to ensure uninterrupted water and power supply during the holy month. The water works officials were directed to take steps to ensure uninterrupted water supply. As the Iftar parties are organized regularly in the mosques, the waste disposals should be arranged adequately and the garbage should be cleared from time to time under the supervision of sanitary officers, the Minister added.
