    Gajapati: Lakhs worth ganja seized from passenger bus; 2 arrested

    Gajapati: Over 23 kilograms of ganja worth lakhs has been seized from a private bus by Gajapati police in the Adaba area of the district on Saturday. The police have also arrested two people involved in the transportation of the cannabis.

    According to reports, police received information about the transportation of contraband products from reliable sources. Working on the tip of the information, the police led a search operation on the bus at Adaba. During the search, they found 23 kg of 900 grams of cannabis in two bags. The cops seized the contraband and arrested two men who were transporting ganja. As per the police officer’s statement, the cannabis was being transported to Berhampur.

    The police also detained the bus driver and conductor along with the bus. The passengers were sent to their respective destinations by other buses.

    The cops have arrested the two people involved in the transportation of ganja. They have also initiated a probe into the matter.

    Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) today seized more than 100 kgs of ganja after arresting two persons during a raid in Itamati area of Nayagarh district today.

    The arrested persons have been identified as Jugal Nayak of Bandhagada under Phiringia police limits in Kandhamal and Ranjit Bhoi of village Phulbani.

    The STF said, “During search, Ganja more than 106 kg, an SUV, and other incriminating materials were recovered & seized from their possession. A case has been registered with Itamati police for necessary legal action.”

    “The special drive against narcotic drugs is continuing. Since 2020, STF has seized more than 69 Kg of Brown Sugar/Heroin, 202 Gram Cocaine, and more than 114 quintals of Ganja/Marijuana, Opium 750 gram and arrested more than 171 drug dealers/peddlers,” it added.

    Bhubaneswar: Two Bengali brokers were arrested from AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Friday. They used to target patients and cheat them. They were allegedly staying in a rented house in Khandagiri area.

    They cheated people off thousands of rupees under the false pretext of helping them. They used to charge rupees Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000 per person.

    They used to extort money from people by pretending to get tickets and get treatment at the facility on an urgent basis.

    The Khandagiri police have arrested the illegal agents after the plain clothes police observed them and their activities for almost more than a week.

    The two brokers have confessed their guilt before the police. Khandagiri police is investigating into the angle as to who else is related to them. The police has appealed to the public to inform the police if they come across such brokers.

    Last year that is in 2022 November, as many as 12 illegal ticket agents had been arrested from AIIMS hospital situated here in Bhubaneswar.

    The Khandagiri police had got the information from locals that these illegal agents were involved in fraud relating to tickets in AIIMS, which is one of the leading hospitals

    According to reliable sources these agents were buying doctor consultation tickets from the counter and selling them at a higher price to the patients.

    Sources say, the tickets for doctor consultation at AIIMS is free but, these illegal agents used to take the tickets and sell them to patients at as much as 4000 to 5000 rupees each.

    A senior police officer back then added that these raids shall be conducted on a regular basis and more agents shall be arrested.

    THANJAVUR: Two people have die after consuming liquor at state-run bar in Thanjavur, two people have died after allegedly consuming alcohol at a government-run bar at Keela Alangam in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur, officials said late Sunday. Following the incident, the officials of the Revenue Department sealed the Bar, they said.

    The deceased have been identified as Vivek (36) and Kuppusamy (68) Thanjavur Collector, Dinesh Ponraj said in a statement that around 12 pm on Sunday, two people consumed alcohol at TASMAC bar in Thanjavur and became ill. “One person died on the way to hospital while the other person died in the Hospital during the treatment,” he said in a statement.

    “As per the Forensic report of the two deceased, there was no methanol in alcohol but a mix of Cyanide poison is suspected to be present in the alcohol,” the Collector said, adding that further investigation is underway. “A First Information Report has been registered in this matter and bodies were sent for autopsy, he said. A special team has been formed to investigate this matter,” he said.

    During a preliminary investigation, it was revealed that one of the deceased Vivek had some family issues. “We are investigating the case from all possible angles whether it is suicide or murder,” he said. Meanwhile, Thanjavur SP Ashish Rawat said, “We are trying to track CCTV footage. After investigation, action would be taken on the Bar owner. A case has been registered under section 174 of the IPC. A special team is investigating this case”.

    Nandyal : The Nandyal police have arrested two people of a three-member gang and recovered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 9.93 lakh from them.

    District Superintendent of Police K Raghuveera Reddy briefed the media about the case in Nandyal on Thursday. According to the SP, Dwaram Janardhan Reddy, resident of Bujunuru village of Gadivemula mandal in the district, filed a complaint at Gadivemula police station on April 16 that unidentified persons have stolen 24.5 grams gold and 26 grams silver ornaments from his house. Police registered a case and took up investigation.

    During investigation, police found out that two persons, Gogula Ravindra Babu, resident of Pedda Kottala village, presently residing at Haneef Nagar in Nandyal town; and Alluri Bala Dastagiri, resident of Gnapapuram village in Nandyal town, were robbing locked houses by entering inside after removing window panes.

    Dwaram Janardham Reddy and his family members were slept on the terrace on the day of the incident. Next day morning he noticed that window panes were removed and also gold and silver ornaments were missing from the almirah.

    Police took the duo into custody on the outskirts of Gadivemula village and recovered the booty. During interrogation, they confessed to committing the crime. Manhunt was launched to nab the third accused, Gogula Pedda Subbarayudu.

    DSP C Maheshwara Reddy, Panyam CI and Gadivemula SI were present at the press meet.

    The UT police have arrested two persons for vehicle thefts and recovered five two-wheelers and a car.

    The suspects have been identified as Jalaudeen, alias Lala (20), and Pawan Kumar (28), both residents of Kajheri village, Sector 52, here.

    A team of the Sector 36 police station nabbed Jalaudeen for stealing a motorcycle from Sector 35, regarding which a case was registered in August last year. The police recovered the motorcycle from his possession.

    During investigation, two more stolen motorcycles were recovered from the suspect. Jalaudeen has a criminal past with two cases of theft registered against him in the city.

    The second suspect, Pawan, was arrested for stealing a motorcycle from the parking area of the Sector 42 lake and a case was registered in December last year. Besides the stolen motorcycle, two more vehicles, including a car, has been recovered.

    Drugs worth Rs 80 lakh seized in Faridabad, 2 arrested

    The crime branch of the local police has recovered 606 grams of banned smack. Two people have been arrested in this connection.
    According to a police official, one of the accused, identified as Kuldeep, a resident of Rohtak district, was arrested from Sector-58 here on April 14 with drugs. The market value of the seized drug is around Rs 80 lakh. During his three-day police remand, Kuldeep revealed that he had procured the drugs from one Ram Babu, a resident of Shahjahanpur district in UP, who lived in Bareilly. Ram Babu was arrested on Sunday.
    It is alleged that Kuldeep used to order narcotics from Ram Babu, who runs a grocery shop in Bareilly, and sell it further in Delhi and some parts of NCR. Kuldeep was sent to judicial custody on Monday. A case has been registered against both of them under the NDPS Act.

    Dhenkanal: Dhenkanal Police on Thursday seized 2 kg 618 gram of Ganja that is worth Rs. 1. 17 lakh. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.

    The accused persons have been identified as Sudhanshu Kumar of Bihar and Sudhakar Das of Bhaliabol village in Dhenkanal.

    As per reports, Dhenkanal Town Police today conducted a raid and seized ganja worth Rs. 1.17 lakh. Police detained the two accused persons and interrogating them in the Police Station.

    Police have also seized a car in this connection. Further investigation of the case is underway.

    The SIT of the Vigilance Department yesterday arrested two more persons in the paper leak case related to the dissolved Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission.

    Both of them were posted as peons in the dissolved HPSSC and were arrested in the JOA (IT) exam case. They had allegedly tampered with the OMR sheets of two candidates.

    SP Rahul Nath confirmed the arrest.
