Tesla will advertise for the 1st time

NEW YORK: Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk told company shareholders on Tuesday that the company will advertise for the first time in its history, CNN Business reported.

“We’ll try a little advertising, and see how it goes,” Musk said in response to a shareholder at the company’s annual meeting in Austin, Texas, Tuesday.

The crowd was overwhelmingly positive about Musk and Tesla. But none of his promises — from the tease of two new products he anticipates introducing next year, to a vow to remain Tesla’s CEO for the foreseeable future, — received as positive a reaction from the audience as his advertising decision, CNN Business said.

“I didn’t realise people wanted it that much,” he said about advertising later in the programme.

The decision is a complete turnaround for Tesla and Musk. The billionaire CEO has for years suggested there is no need for the company to advertise because he claims demand for the vehicles outstrips supply.

“Tesla does not advertise or pay for endorsements. Instead, we use that money to make the product great,” he said in a 2019 tweet.

In an interview on CNBC following the meeting, Musk said advertising was not something he had decided to do until he was asked about it at the meeting.

CNN Business said one thing that has changed for Tesla is greater competition from existing automakers, all of which have devoted much of their advertising budget to electric vehicles, even for vehicles that are not yet available for sale.

The increased competition, plus rising interest rates, has led to a series of price cuts by Tesla so far this year. According to CNN Business, those price cuts have squeezed margins for Tesla, even though it remains more profitable than traditional automakers.

His Twitter purchase also may have changed his mind about the value of advertising. That platform previously earned more than 90 per cent of its revenue from advertising before Musk purchased it. Twitter has since seen advertisers flee the platform.

Pa Ranjith slams against his AD for reciting poem against manual scavenging

CHENNAI: Chennai Police have booked an assistant director with filmmaker Pa Ranjith based on a complaint alleging that the assistant director insulted Hindu Gods.

In response to the FIR, filmmaker Ranjith took to social media and expressed his condemnations for the police succumbing to pressure from fascist groups.

Abhiramapuram Police have registered a case against the assistant director, Vigneshwaran alias Viduthalai Sigappi, after a part of his speech was made viral in social media, asking for action to be taken against him.

In a statement through his Neelam Cultural Centre, filmmaker Pa Ranjith pointed out that the viral video was taken out of context.

The speech was made on April 30 as part of a literary event organised by Neelam Cultural centre.

Viduthalai Sigappi was giving a speech about manual scavenging deaths and to drive home the point about the system’s blind eye towards the deaths of the underprivileged while being engaged for manual scavenging, he had remarked whether the deaths would get notice if the Gods are put through a similar ordeal while reciting a poem, according to a statement from Neelam Cultural Centre.

The core idea of the poem was to highlight the ills of manual scavenging. Instead of that being given attention, unsavoury forces have given a religious colour to it and diverted the issue, the statement added.
