    Amit Shah chairs review meeting on cyclone Biparjoy

    New Delhi: The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has chaired a review meeting on the preparedness for cyclone ‘Biparjoy’.

    Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and MPs from eight likely affected districts in the state, which could be impacted by the cyclone, virtually participate in the meeting.

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah also chaired a meeting with the ministers of Disaster Management of all states and Union Territories today.

    The meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla along with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

    The meeting had taken place, as extreme severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy looms large over the eastern and central Arabian Sea. The meeting will be held to keep the focus on preparedness to deal with the next phase of these challenges.

    Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the state of preparedness as cyclone Biparjoy is likely to turn severe by Thursday and make landfall in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat.

    More than 20,000 people from the affected districts evacuated so far. Migration of 500 people in Junagadh district, 6,786 in Kutch, 1,500 in Jamnagar, 543 people in Porbandar, 4,820 in Dwarka, 408 in Gir-Somnath, 2,000 people in Morbi and 4,031 in Rajkot: Government of Gujarat.

    Chennai: Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah on Sunday pitched for making a Tamil as Prime Minister in the future, party sources here said.

    The BJP veteran, also its former national president, made the remarks at a closed door meeting of state party functionaries during his visit here. Without divulging details, sources indicated he pitched for a Tamil PM in the near future. Such an opportunity was lost in the past twice, he was said to have stated and reportedly blamed the ruling DMK for this.

    Shah also exhorted the BJP functionaries to work towards winning over 20 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and strengthen the booth committees for this purpose.

    Amit Shah will be on a tour of Tamil Nadu on Sunday

    Chennai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Tamil Nadu on Saturday to meet party workers and industrialists.

    Shah will first meet the industrialists in Chennai. This would be followed by a meeting with party leaders from the Chennai South Lok Sabha constituency at a marriage hall in Kovilambakkam.

    According to the BJP leaders, Shah’s visit is aimed at activating the party’s grass-roots workers in the run up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

    BJP will contest the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the AIADMK and the party expects to win 11 seats, which include Chennai South, The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Vellore, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and a few other seats.

    AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami is also scheduled to meet Shah in Chennai. Later Shah will leave for Vellore in a chopper to attend a public rally on Sunday.

    Bhubaneswar: The Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to visit Odisha on June 17, 2023, said reliable reports on Saturday.

    The Union Minister is likely to visit Dhenkanal to participate in Maha Janasampark Yatra to be held by BJP in the district ahead of the upcoming General elections.

    The venue and other details of the programme will be shared later, informed the state party president Manmohan Samal. Samal said adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to visit Odisha soon.

    The veteran BJP leader is coming to the state for the Maha Sampark campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 31 to mark completion of nine years of BJP government at Centre.

    Union Ministers Giriraj Singh, Arjun Munda, Dharmendra Pradhan and Ashwini Vaishnaw are also scheduled to attend various programmes across the state.

    The Union ministers and senior BJP leaders will hold press conferences and brief about the achievements of PM Modi since 2014. They will also interact with the media and people of the state and give a presentation based on all the achievements of the BJP-led government at the Centre.

    Kuki women protest outside Amit Shah’s residence, detained

    New Delhi (IANS) | A group of women from the Kuki tribal community of Manipur protested outside the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday against caste violence in the northeastern state. More than 100 people have lost their lives in this violence.

    The Union Minister recently visited Manipur from 29 May to 1 June. According to information, women gathered outside Amit Shah’s residence at around 9 am.

    However, all the protesters were directed to leave by the Delhi Police, as no protests of any kind are allowed in the area. A Delhi Police official said that on receiving information about the protest, they sent a team to pacify the protesters.

    Police had initially told the protesters that it was illegal to assemble outside Amit Shah’s residence. All the protesters were detained and brought to Jantar Mantar, police said. We informed them that if they want, they can protest there.

    Caste violence broke out in Manipur after the All Tribal Students’ Union of Manipur organized a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ in 11 hill districts to protest their demand for Scheduled Tribe status for the Meitei community. So far more than 320 people have been injured in the violence.

    IMPHAL: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, currently visiting Manipur, on Tuesday had consultations with various stake-holders which started with a breakfast meeting with a group of women leaders and a separate meeting with prominent personalities as part of his efforts to bring lasting peace in the violence-hit state.

    He also held another meeting with a delegation of civil society organisations as part of his outreach and they expressed their commitment to peace and assured that they would work for restoring normalcy in Manipur.

    ”Held a meeting with a group of women leaders (Meira Paibi) in Manipur. Reiterated the significance of the role of women in the society of Manipur. Together, we are committed to ensuring peace and prosperity in the state,” Shah tweeted.

    In a separate tweet, Shah said ”Had a fruitful discussion with the members of the different Civil Society Organisations today in Imphal. They expressed their commitment to peace and assured that we would together contribute to paving the way to restore normalcy in Manipur.” According to a home ministry spokesperson, in the meeting in Imphal this morning, prominent personalities assured their commitment to peace and also that they would work towards restoring peace in the state.

    After his arrival in Imphal last night, Shah met Chief Minister N Biren Singh, some cabinet ministers, officials and a few political leaders.

    Shah is on a four-day visit to Manipur during which he will hold several rounds of security meetings to assess situation and plan further steps to restore normalcy, sources said.

    This is the first time the home minister is visiting the northeastern state since the ethnic clashes began in Manipur on May 3. The state witnessed a sudden spurt in clashes and firing between militants and security forces on Sunday, after a relative lull for over a fortnight. The death toll from clashes has gone up to 80, officials said.

    The ethnic violence first broke out after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts on May 3 to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The violence was preceded by tension over the eviction of Kuki villagers from reserve forest land, which had led to a series of smaller agitations.

    An RTI activist was arrested on Saturday for allegedly making ‘derogatory remarks’ against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on social media, police said.

    “RTI activist Gulam Qazi arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on social media,” said Mumbai Police.

    According to the police, a case was registered under relevant sections of IPC at Sakinaka police station against RTI activists.

    “The accused allegedly threatened them,” police added.

    Earlier in April, Police arrest arrested the person who wrote a letter threatening to launch a suicide bomb attack on PM Modi during his visit to Kochi. The accused was identified as Xavier.

    Chennai: After a row over Amul selling milk in Karnataka, now Tamil Nadu has opposed Amul setting up chilling centres and a processing plant in the state.

    Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Thursday said that the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union or Amul is infringing on the milk-shed area of Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited or Aavin.

    Earlier a similar row erupted in Karnataka after Amul announced plans to enter and expand in the state, ahead of the Assembly elections in the state, which took place on May 10.

    The Gujarat-based dairy cooperative Amul on April 5 stated that it plans to enter the state’s market to supply milk and curd. The announcement was not welcomed by the people who held protests and destroyed Amul products.

    GUJARAT: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday offered prayers at Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka, Gujarat.

    Union Home Minister will also visit the National Academy of Coastal Policing at Okha in Gujarat for the foundation stone laying ceremony of the institution.

    He will also perform e-inaugurate five coastal outposts of BSF situated off the Jakhau coast in the Kutch district of Gujarat as well as one OP Tower at Lakhpatwari in the Sir Creek area in the state.

    The National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) has been established to provide intensive and high-level training for Marine Police of nine Coastal states, five Union Territories, and as well as Central Police Forces.

    The government of India has sanctioned Rs 441 crore for developing NACP with modern infrastructure, the latest technology, and state of art training facilities which would make a significant contribution towards enhancing the security of Coastal Borders.

    The five Coastal Outposts being e-inaugurated are among the 18 Coastal outposts built at a cost of Rs 164 crore along the Medi to Jakhau Coast in the Kutch district. OP Tower at Lakhpatwari Bet in Sir Creek will augment domination and ensure the round-the-clock presence of BSF troops in the region.

    Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Director General BSF SL Thaosen will also be attending the programme at NACP, Okha.

    Amit Shah to visit West Bengal on Tuesday

    NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will undertake a daylong tour of West Bengal on Tuesday during which he will attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Rabindranath Tagore and lay foundation stone of or inaugurate a number of developing projects, sources said.

    In the morning, the home minister will pay tribute at a statue of Tagore at the Jorasanko Thakurbari in Kolkata.

    Thereafter, Shah will lay foundation stone of and inaugurate various development projects of the Land Port Authority of India and the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Petrapole in North 24 Parganas district, sources said.

    In the afternoon, the home minister will release a film, ”Luminaries of Bengal”, and inaugurate various projects at the Science City in Kolkata. In the evening, Shah will also attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Tagore in the city.
