    ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh arrested from Moga

    Moga: In a major breakthrough amid the continuing manhunt, ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh was arrested by Punjab Police from the Moga district of Punjab, informed sources.

    Earlier on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah when asked about Amritpal Singh’s arrest and that he has been absconding for a long, said, “It may happen sometime. Earlier he used to roam freely, but now he cannot carry on with his activities.”

    Two more aides of the fugitive radical preacher and Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh were arrested at Mohali in Punjab, in a joint operation by Punjab and Delhi Police on April 18.
    On April 15, Punjab Police arrested his close aide Joga Singh from Sirhind in the Fatehgarh Sahib district.

    Another close aid of the pro khalistani leader, Papalpreet Singh was arrested on April 10, in an operation conducted by Punjab Police and its counter-intelligence unit.

    The radical leader had been declared a “fugitive” while he was on a run earlier in March.

    “Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh has been declared a fugitive. His two cars were seized and gunmen nabbed. We also checked if the firearms of his security escorts had been procured legally. A case has been registered. Punjab Police have launched a manhunt for Amritpal Singh and we are hopeful that he will be arrested soon. A total of 78 people have been arrested so far and further searches and raids are underway,” Chahal said in an exclusive interview with ANI.

    Bharatpur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday claimed that the Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh dared to speak about Khalistan because of the frequent refrain by the BJP and RSS of ‘Hindu Rashtra’.

    “A new name has emerged in Punjab, Amritpal. Amritpal Singh says that if Mohan Bhagwat and Narendra Modi could talk about Hindu Rashtra, then why should I not talk about Khalistan? Look at his audacity. He got the courage to because you talk about Hindu Rashtra?” Gehlot said addressing the divisional-level workers’ conference here.

    “It is easy to start a fire but it takes time to extinguish it. This is not happening for the first time in the country. Indira Gandhi was killed because of this. She did not let Khalistan be created What should I say today?” Gehlot said.

    The Chief Minister alleged that the politics of religion is being done in the country.

    “Politics is being done in the name of religion in the country. But if you take along the people belonging to every religion and caste for the country’s good, this country will remain united,” he said.

    Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh surfaced in a new video and said he was not “a fugitive” and will soon “appear in front of the world”.

    Chandigarh, (IANS) | The Punjab Police was close to arresting fugitive Khalistani fundamentalist Amritpal Singh, the state’s Advocate General informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday. The high court was hearing a petition seeking his release by a person who claimed that Amritpal Singh was under illegal detention in Jalandhar. The Advocate General clarified that Amritpal Singh has not been arrested and the police is making all out efforts to arrest him.

    He said, Punjab is going through a sensitive phase and it involves national security. Therefore, the given arguments should be confined to the arguments raised in the habeas corpus petition.

    After hearing the counsel for both the parties, Justice NS Shekhawat asked the counsel for the petitioner to show proof that Amritpal Singh is in illegal custody of the police. He said that the state has a clear stand that Amritpal Singh has not been arrested.

    Amritpal Singh is evading arrest since March 18, changing his location. A new video has surfaced of Amritpal Singh along with his colleague Papalpreet Singh, in which Amritpal Singh is allegedly roaming in a Delhi street without wearing a turban and a mask.

    Chandigarh: The stringent National Security Act has been invoked against Amritpal Singh, the Punjab government on Tuesday told the high court which rapped it over the “intelligence failure” that led to the pro-Khalistan preacher giving police the slip.

    The Punjab and Haryana High Court was hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by advocate Imaan Singh Khara, seeking the “release” of Amritpal Singh from alleged police custody.

    Justice N S Shekhawat asked Punjab Advocate General Vinod Ghai how Amritpal Singh gave police the slip when the whole operation was meticulously planned and called it an intelligence failure, a lawyer said.

    CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Police on Monday said it has invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against five people linked to radical preacher Amritpal Singh’s ‘Waris Punjab De’.

    Addressing the media here, Punjab Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill further said the preacher was on the run and efforts were on to nab him.

    He said six FIRs have so far been registered and 114 people arrested in the crackdown against elements of the Waris Punjab De outfit.

    Gill also said that police suspect an “ISI angle” and foreign funding in the matter.

    The NSA has been invoked against five people linked to the outfit, he said in response to a question.

    The stringent law has been invoked against four detenues — Daljit Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Pradhanmantri’ Bajeke, who have been shifted to the Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam.

    He further said that the NSA has also been invoked against Harjit Singh, who surrendered on Saturday night in Jalandhar.

    Harjit Singh, the uncle of Amritpal Singh, will also be taken to Dibrugarh Central Jail, the police said.

    In the wake of the action against the radical preacher, Gill said police were taking out flag marches in the state and peace committee meetings were being held in all districts.

    There is complete peace in Punjab, he added.

    The official also urged people not to lend ears to rumours and fake news, saying strict action will be taken against those found involved in the same.

    The police on Saturday launched a major crackdown against Amritpal and members of his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’.

    The elusive preacher, however, gave police the slip and escaped their dragnet when his cavalcade was intercepted in Jalandhar district.

    Punjab Police on Saturday, March 18 arrested Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh, according to sources. To curb the spread of misinformation, internet services have been suspended till 12 pm on Sunday, March 19 as per the official notification from the Home Affairs department.

    Sources said that Amritpal Singh has been taken to an undisclosed location. He was detained near Jalandhar district’s Nakodar area.

    Sources informed that the Punjab Chief Secretary had sent a report to the Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) last night stating that they would be acting against certain elements for which they demanded assistance from Central forces.

    Sources also informed that apart from Amritpal, at least eight other high-profile individuals have been detained from four districts of the state.

    “All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall be suspended from 18th March (12:00 hours) to 19th March (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety,” an official order said.

    Earlier in the day, police had intercepted Amritpal’s cavalcade in Mehatpur village in Jalandhar. Though the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief managed to escape, six of his aides were learnt to have been detained.

    Some of his supporters shared clips on social media claiming that cops were chasing them. A video also showed Amritpal Singh sitting in a car and one of his associates could be heard saying policemen were after ‘Bhai saab’ (Amritpal).

    Meanwhile, the Punjab Police requested people to maintain peace and harmony. “Request all citizens to maintain peace & harmony. Punjab Police is working to maintain Law & Order. Request citizens not to panic or spread fake news or hate speech,” it said in a tweet.

    Last month, Amritpal and his supporters, some with guns and swords, broke through barricades and barged into the Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar, and clashed with police for the release of one aide of Amritpal.
