    Two day workshop on application of genetic methods begins

    Hyderabad: Centre for Biodiversity & Conservation Studies, Osmania University in collaboration with Molecular Ecology and Evolution, Bangor University organised a workshop on the application of genetic methods in measuring and monitoring biodiversity in the Indian Context-Prospects and Limitations on Wednesday.

    The objective of this short workshop was to explore common ground in the application of genetic methods of biodiversity assessment and monitoring for effective conservation of threatened taxa, with the aim of identifying gaps in current usage in the Indian context, said senior officer, OU. Dr Anita Malhotra, Molecular Ecology & Evolution, School of Natural Sciences, Bangor University conveyed that India is rich in Biodiversity and her linkages with India make her second visit to India makes her even more enthusiastic about the collaboration.

    Prof Karthikeyan Vasudevan, Chief Scientist, Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES) stated that integration of technological advances can go a long way in preventing the extinction of endangered species.

    CHENNAI: Indian Institute of Technology Madras’ (IIT Madras) Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE) on Friday announced the admission process for new courses in cutting-edge fields. These six-month executive education programmes are targeted towards working professionals who are looking to upskill themselves or explore new domains.

    These include programs in areas like eMobility and Electric Vehicle Engineering, Quantum Computing, Operations and Supply Chain Analytics for Strategic Decision Making, Additive Manufacturing Technologies from Practicing Engineers, and Construction Technology and Management, a release from IIT-Madras here said.

    Traditionally, such programs from IITs have been delivered in person over one or two weeks. In an effort to reach learners from various parts of the country, these programs are now being delivered online, which offers professionals the flexibility to take the courses from where they are.

    The success of the NPTEL and IITM BS programs, which are primarily online teaching initiatives, has spurred IIT Madras to expand the scope of outreach to now focus on industry professionals and offering programs, helping them upskill and reskill without disrupting their work.

    The programmes are carefully designed for effective learning through continuous engagement such as weekly assessments and live interactions. The weekly online interactions with the faculty provide the necessary personalised attention. ,In addition to the online lectures and interactions, the in-person campus visits during the program facilitate the learners to get a glimpse of the various facilities at IIT Madras and network with their peers and the faculty.

    With a rapid switch in the focus of the automobile industry, from ICE Vehicles to Electric Vehicles, there is a huge requirement for skilled human resources who have a sound knowledge of Electric Vehicles, and their constituents and ecosystems.

    eMobility and Electric Vehicle Engineering course is specifically designed to introduce fundamental concepts and industrial applications of Electric Vehicles and related technologies.

    After successful completion, the first cohort participants visited the campus on 29th April 2023 to receive their program completion certificate. The second cohort is now going on and the registration for the third cohort is now open.

Collector Sanjeev Kumar Jha met the common people from different remote areas of the district in turn and listened to their problems, complaints and requirements through Janchoupal organized in the collectorate hall on Tuesday. Listening to the problems of all the applicants who came from different areas of the district with full seriousness and humility, he instructed the concerned officers to solve them immediately as per the rules. In Janchoupal, more than 100 people presented applications to Collector Sanjeev Jha regarding their demands and problems. One by one the people who came to Janchoupal kept their problems and demands.

    Under which Divyang Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Khamharmuda village of Podi Uproda district, submitted an application before the collector to get job card made. Rajesh told that he does not have both hands. He does not have any main source of livelihood. Also, they are not getting pension since few months. He does not want to be dependent on anyone for his livelihood, so Rajesh demanded his worthy work from the district administration. Collector Jha, keeping in mind the sensitivity of Rajesh’s problem and his strong will to do his work, instructed to make a job card immediately and provide suitable work to him. Also asked the Social Welfare Department officer to provide him pension without delay.
