    Odisha train tragedy: Assam man rescued alive after 48 hours of accident

    Balasore: A man was rescued 48 hours after the horrific Coromandel train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district. The police rescued him alive from 200 meters away from the Bahanaga railway station.

    According to sources, the man hails from Assam. However, his proper identity is yet to be ascertained. He was one among the passengers of the Coromandel train which met with an accident on Friday.

    The man along with some other people was going to work. In the accident, he was trapped below a boggy. The police rescued him and rushed him to Soro Hospital on Sunday evening. Later he was shifted to Balasore Headquarters Hospital. Reportedly, he will be sent to Assam after treatment.

    It is pertinent to note here that 275 people lost their lives in the tragic Coromandel train accident on Friday evening. 1,175 passengers were left injured.

    As per the report total of 1175 injured persons were admitted to various government and private hospitals. Out of the total, 793 have been discharged after treatment. Currently, 382 passengers are now undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals. The condition of two of them is said to be critical.

    NEW DELHI: The first train on the section where the accident happened in Balasore started its journey at around 10.40 pm on Sunday, 51 hours after the horrific crash which killed 275 people, officials said.

    The goods train was seen off by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw as scores of media persons and railway officials looked on.

    The train carrying coal is headed towards Rourkela Steel plant from Vizag port and is running on the same track where the ill-fated Bangalore-Howrah train met with the tragedy on Friday.

    The Howrah-bound train crashed with the capsized bogies of the Coromandel Express which had collided with a stationary freight train seconds earlier.

    ”Down-line restoration complete. First train movement in section,” tweeted Ashwini Vaishnaw.

    Balasore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the train accident site at Bahanaga of Odisha’s Balasore district and reviewed situation on Saturday.

    The Prime Minister arrived at the accident site with a special helicopter of the Air Force along with his principal secretary PK Mishra. He visited the accident spot and spoke with some concerned officials to know more about the tragedy.

    Apart from taking stock of the situation at the accident spot, Modi also visited the Balasore District Headquarter Hospital. He met some injured persons and the doctors at the hospital. He discussed about their treatment and wished their speedy recovery.

    Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Dharmendra Pradhan were present with the Prime Minister.

    Balasore: In a shocking incident, a man has allegedly hacked his wife to death and then killed himself in Balasore district of Odisha.

    The incident has come to light on Tuesday. The incident has occurred in Maulanasahi under Dhamnagar police limits, said reports.

    The locals spotted the bodies of the couple inside their house at Maulanasahi.

    The Dhamnagar police immediately reached the spot and started and investigation into the matter.

    From preliminary investigation it has been found that, there was some argument between the husband and wife, in a fit of rage the husband hacked the wife leading to her death on the spot.

    It is suspected that the man allegedly repented after killing his wife and then killed himself due to the guilt.

    The investigation by local police is underway. Further detailed report in this matter is awaited.
