Z category security to AISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui

Kolkata (IANS) | In the backdrop of large-scale violence in West Bengal’s Bhangar over the nomination process for the upcoming panchayat elections, the Union Home Ministry has decided to provide Z-category security to the All India Secular Front’s (AISF) MLA from Bhangar and the lone party representative in the state. Have decided. On 16 June, Siddiqui wrote to the office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah fearing a threat to his life and sought central assistance for his security.

The matter was referred to the office of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, who oversees matters relating to security allocation. Sources said the matter was also discussed with Pramanik, another minister of state for home affairs and the BJP MLA from Cooch Behar in West Bengal, whose convoy was attacked twice in the state during four months.

After Pramanik confirmed the veracity of Siddiqui’s apprehension, the central government approved Z-category security. Under this system, Siddiqui will get the cover of 22 security personnel.

Alleging a secret understanding between the AISF and the BJP, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said Siddiqui concocted a drama of danger to life and the central government had fueled it. This proves the secret understanding between the two.

Recently, while addressing a public meeting, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, without naming him, accused Siddiqui of secretly colluding with the BJP.

Bengal panchayat polls: AISF candidate shot dead in Bhangar

Kolkata: An All India Secular Front (AISF) candidate, Mohammad Mohiuddin Molla, was shot dead on Thursday in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district when he arrived at the block development office to file his nomination for the Panchayat polls, an official said.

This was the second death on the same day over nomination-related violence. Earlier on Tuesday, CPI-M activist Mansur Ali was killed in cross-firing at Chopra in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district.

This is the third death over nominations in West Bengal since the polling dates were announced on June 8. On June 9, a Congress worker, Phoolchand Sheikh, was killed at Khargram in Murshidabad district.

On Thursday afternoon, Molla was shot dead within the premises of the block development office at Bhangar-II block. He died on the spot.

Following the incident, severe clashes broke out throughout the area between the Trinamool Congress and the AISF supporters.

There was severe brick-batting and crude bombs were hurled one after another, turning the entire area into a virtual battlefield.

Naushad Siddique, the lone AISF representative in the West Bengal assembly, alleged that the police contingent present there “did not react” while the ruling party activists attacked the AISF candidate and those associated with him. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has, however, denied the allegations.
