    No Jungle Safari During Morning Hours In Odisha’s Debrigarh Sanctuary For 3 Days

    Bhubaneswar: Jungle safari at Debrigarh Sanctuary under Hirakud Wildlife Division in Odisha’s Sambalpur will remain closed from May 31 to June 2 during morning hours (6am to 9am) to avoid biotic disturbance during the six-day sign survey of carnivores and herbivores (census or density calculation) from May 28.

    According to sources, 26 teams with 52 trained staff have been formed and they will complete the survey in 6 days. The carnivores will be covered during the first 3 days and herbivores on the remaining 3 days, when there will no jungle safari from 6am to 9am.

    “The survey will help us find the density of the prey base inside the sanctuary,” said DFO (Hirakud Wildlife Division) Anshu Pragyan Das.

    The last sign survey in the sanctuary reflected density between 29 and 38 per sq km, Sambar population being highest among herbivores with equal distribution of deer, Indian Gaur, wild boar, Chowsingha and about 70 leopards were reported.

    Presence of one tiger was also ascertained by camera trap. Since last 7-8 months, the male tiger is regularly camera trapped in sanctuary. Around 140 cameras and 12 tiger monitoring teams are regularly monitoring its movement.

    This pre-monsoon survey will confirms its presence, she added.

    Tehsildar Injured In Attack By Mafia In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

    Dhenkanal: A tehsildar was critically injured in an attack by members of a mafia while the former tried to prevent illegal shifting of soil in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Friday.

    According to sources, Parjang tehsildar Subhra Patel had gone to Patharkhamb village to investigate into the information that some people were trying to lift soil from a government land with a JCB machine. On reaching the spot, the tehsildar took the photographs of the people indulged in illegal work.

    Enraged over it, a group of 8 to 10 people attacked Patel and tried to run JCB vehicle over him. When revenue inspector Alok Kumar Lenka rushed to the spot to rescue the tehsildar, he was also beaten up by the gang.

    Later, the locals rushed both officers to Kamakhyanagar sub-divisional hospital. On being informed, Parjang MLA Nrusingh Charan Sahu and Kamakhyanagar deputy collector Jyoti Shankar Sahu went to the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured officers.

    A police team went to the village and seized the tractor used by the gang to transport the soil. But by the time they reached there, the gang members had already fled. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

    Bhubaneswar: Two Bengali brokers were arrested from AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Friday. They used to target patients and cheat them. They were allegedly staying in a rented house in Khandagiri area.

    They cheated people off thousands of rupees under the false pretext of helping them. They used to charge rupees Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000 per person.

    They used to extort money from people by pretending to get tickets and get treatment at the facility on an urgent basis.

    The Khandagiri police have arrested the illegal agents after the plain clothes police observed them and their activities for almost more than a week.

    The two brokers have confessed their guilt before the police. Khandagiri police is investigating into the angle as to who else is related to them. The police has appealed to the public to inform the police if they come across such brokers.

    Last year that is in 2022 November, as many as 12 illegal ticket agents had been arrested from AIIMS hospital situated here in Bhubaneswar.

    The Khandagiri police had got the information from locals that these illegal agents were involved in fraud relating to tickets in AIIMS, which is one of the leading hospitals

    According to reliable sources these agents were buying doctor consultation tickets from the counter and selling them at a higher price to the patients.

    Sources say, the tickets for doctor consultation at AIIMS is free but, these illegal agents used to take the tickets and sell them to patients at as much as 4000 to 5000 rupees each.

    A senior police officer back then added that these raids shall be conducted on a regular basis and more agents shall be arrested.

    Bhubaneswar: Beware regular traffic violators, all the people who have more than five e-challans shall be under the scanner of the Commissionerate Police.

    Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi said there have been several instances where several e-challans go unpaid. Most violators do not bother to deposit the fine.

    The police Commissioner further added that the violators continue to drive without caring about traffic rules. So, steps need to be taken to prevent this any further.

    He said that steps shall be taken very soon to collect fines or lodge a police complaint against regular offenders.

    Further, the CP Soumendra further informed, that strict rules and action shall be taken against those who have violated traffic rules more than 5 times.

    It is noteworthy that, if the violators still do not comply, necessary action will be taken against them as per law.

    This has been decided after the fact that there has been a considerable rise in the number of traffic related offences.

    Umerkote: At least ten women were injured critically on Thursday after a van carrying around 30 people hit a tree in Umerkote of Nabarangpur district of Odisha.

    According to reports, the injured women were from Bisamapuriasahi area. The inured women along with twenty others were reportedly heading towards the Shiva temple in Bulipatana for sitalasasthi when the van lost control and hit a tree on the road side. After hitting the tree, the van overturned. Which resulted in the women getting injured.

    The other women has a narrow escape from the accident. The injured people have been admitted in the nearby hospital.

    Malkangiri: One person has gone missing on Wednesday evening after a fishing boat capsized following rain and strong winds in Chitrakonda dam in Malkangiri district of Odisha.

    According to reports, three people identified as Krupa, Hari and Kailash, of Dyke-3 village had gone fishing in the dam and were returning from Singaram area when the boat capsized due to sudden rain and winds. Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak managed to swim back ashore after the boat capsized. However, Krupa Benia had gone missing after the incident.

    They immediately informed the villagers who launched a rescue operation. However, the search operation was suspended midway due to darkness.

    On Thursday morning, the villagers resumed the operation, which was later joined by a team of the fire services department. However, there is still no trace of the missing Krupa.

    Gajapati: In a shocking incident reported from Gajapati district in Odisha, a man has allegedly hacked his wife and separated her head from her body and thrown it into the fields.

    According to reports, this gruesome incident has taken place under Kashinagar police station limits in Gajapati district in Odisha on Thursday.

    The alleged offender, that is the husband has been identified as Muna Karji. He had allegedly gone to the agricultural lands with his wife in the morning, said reliable reports.

    The villagers were shocked to see Muna returning from the fields with the head of his wife in his hand. He then kept the head right in front of the door of his house.

    The shocked villagers immediately informed the local police about the incident. The police rushed to the spot and found Muna sitting coolly besides the cut head.

    The man then confessed that he had killed his wife and hacked her. He had then separated the head from the body. He further added that he had left the body in the field and brought the head back home.

    They immediately sprung into action and arrested the accused husband. The police seized the body from the field and the head from the house and sent it for postmortem.

    However the reason behind the gruesome murder is yet to be revealed. The police is investigating into the matter, detailed report in this shocking case is awaited.

    Bhubaneswar (IANS) | The STF of Odisha Police has seized three leopard skins and arrested a wildlife criminal. Officials gave this information on Thursday. Acting on a tip-off, a team of STF on Wednesday raided near Siriguda Swargadham Chowk and seized a leopard skin and arrested a person.

    The accused has been identified as Dambrudhar Majhi of Rayagada district.

    STF officials said a case has been registered under sections of IPC and Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and further investigation is underway.

    The seized leopard skin will be sent to the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, for examination.

    Youth mercilessly hacked to death in Bhubaneswar!

    Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a youth has been hacked and killed mercilessly in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha on Wednesday.

    The incident has been reported from Unit I area of the temple city of Odisha. The alleged miscreant has allegedly used a sword, attacked the youth and killed him.

    The deceased has been identified as Sushant. The miscreant who attacked the youth has been missing since he committed the act.

    The locals at the scene of the incident were shocked to see the ruthlessness with which the youth had been murdered.

    The Capital Police was immediately informed. On getting the information, the police immediately reached the spot and initiated an investigation in this regard.

    The police have found out from the preliminary investigation that this murder took place in connection with a previous enmity.

    The murder allegedly took place late last night. The investigation in this case is underway, detailed report in this matter is awaited.

    Maoist camp busted in Odisha’s Kandhamal, huge cache of arms, ammunition recovered, watch

    Kandhamal: A Maoist camp was busted on Wednesday in Kandhamal district of Odisha while huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. Reportedly, one .303 Rifle, two other Rifles, electric wire, tiffin IEDs, pregnancy kits and other camp articles of Maoists were recovered from the Maoist camp in the Budhanai Reserve Forest area under Tumudibandh Police Station limits.

    Based on reliable intelligence input about the presence of a group of armed cadres (about 20-22) of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in Budhanai Reserve Forest under Tumudibandh PS of Kandhamal district and their plan to carry out subversive attacks, an operation was launched in the area by SOG and District Police.

    On 24.05.2023 in the early morning hours, the operational team came across a group of Maoists inside the Budhanai Reserve Forest area under Tumudibandh PS.

    On seeing the police team, the Maoists started indiscriminate fire upon the police team. The operational team retaliated the fire in self-defence observing due formalities.

    The exchange of fire continued for about half an hour. Taking advantage of the forest terrain the Maoists managed to escape.

    During the subsequent search in the area, a Maoist camp was detected from which one .303 Rifle, two other Rifles, electric wire, tiffin IEDs, pregnancy kit and other camp articles of Maoists have been recovered.

    Blood stains were also found at the spot suggesting injury to a few Maoist cadres in this exchange of fire.

    Senior officers are monitoring the development. Combing operation is continuing in the said area. More SOG and CRPF teams have been deployed to intensify the operation.
