    Rayagada: The Norwester rains wreaked havoc in Rayagada district of Odisha on Wednesday. Due to its affect, the roofs of houses were blown off. Also, one person was killed due to lightning strike.

    As per reports, the norwester rains wreaked havoc today in many villages in the Bissamcuttack area in Rayagada district.

    Thunder squall accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind was experienced in the Chatikana, Mandapai and Matakabadi villages. Accordingly, roofs of many houses blown off and houses got damaged. Similarly, communication was cut off in the Mandapai village as a large tree fell on the road.

    Same situation has been witnessed in the Chatikana village. A few vehicles including Tata Magic and Auto rickshaw got damaged due to tree felling. Also, the vegetable marker and a few houses got partially damaged.

    In Badamatak village, a youth was killed due to lightning strike while he had gone to collect mangoes. He has been identified as Budu Kandpani.

    Hyderabad: The works on Narsingi entry/ exit points on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) are nearing completion and will be ready in about 10 days.

    Presently, there is 8 km distance between the two entry and exit points on ORR between Kokapet and Telangana State Police Academy (TSPA) interchanges.

    The entry ramp to ORR near Narsingi overpass will provide connectivity to the traffic coming from Narsingi and Gandipet and going towards Rajendra Nagar and Shamshabad. Similarly, the exit ramp to ORR near Narsingi overpass will provide connectivity to the traffic coming from Rajendra Nagar and Shamshabad and going towards Narsingi and Gandipet.

    Once these entry/exit points are operational, the traffic congestion is expected to be reduced on the service roads and internal roads in and around Narsingi. They will also provide safe access to the ORR and reduce commute time.

    With many residential and commercial establishments mushrooming in Narsingi and parts of Gandipet, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has proposed these exit and entry points.

    Also, Narsingi is in close proximity to the Financial District and Gachibowli and these three areas are witnessing heavy developmental works. During peak hours, the road from ORR to Narsingi gets congested owing to heavy vehicular traffic and the upcoming facilities are expected to provide relief for motorists.

    Rachakonda CP inaugurates Centre for Development and Empowerment of Women at LB Nagar

    Hyderabad: Rachakonda Commissioner of Police, DS Chauhan inaugurated the Centre for Development and Empowerment of Women (CDEW) at LB Nagar on Tuesday.

    The center will offer counseling and assist women victims of domestic and sexual violence in seeking professional help. Speaking on the occasion, Chauhan said the Rachakonda police are taking up various steps to increase women safety both online and offline to provide a safe and secure environment. The police have released audio messages and short films to create awareness among the women.

    Additional DG (women safety) Shikha Goel said all the sub divisions in the tri-commissionerates will have a CDEW center. “The idea is to provide a platform for women to seek professional help. We want the centers to be somewhere near their house. Professional help will be extended to the women,” she said adding that CDEW is part of the Safe City Project.

    Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday laid the foundation of the Sivaji Patnaik Smruti Plaza on the occasion of first death anniversary of veteran communist leader, Lt. Sivaji Patnaik.

    The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone in the presence of various dignitaries, party members of CPI (M), and admirers of Sivaji Patnaik.

    Spread over 615 sqm near CPI (M) office at Pal Heights, Jaydev Vihar, Bhubaneswar, the plaza, aims to honour and celebrate the remarkable contributions made by Sivaji Patnaik towards the advancement of the working-class upliftment. The initiative seeks to preserve his legacy and inspire future generations to uphold his values and principles.

    Situated in a busy commercial area, the design of the plaza is such that it shall not only pay homage to the humanitarian hero but also give back the neglected public space or urban void into a vibrant public space.

    The Sivaji Patnaik Smruti Plaza, which will be set up by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), will house a variety of features and facilities, movement corridor and interactive displays showcasing Sivaji Patnaik’s life, achievements, and his profound impact on the Kisan Movement, Khet Majdoor Union, Trade Union movement in the state and his noteworthy deeds for the betterment of society. 70% area is designed as true earth (unpaved) on all the peripheral edges around main congregation spaces with a larger goal towards green living.

    The Bhubaneswar Development Authority has been entrusted with the responsibility of designing and constructing the plaza while ensuring its architectural harmony with the surrounding environment.

    The development is aimed at creating a serene and reflective space that invites visitors to learn, reflect, and draw inspiration from the struggles and triumphs of Sivaji Patnaik’s journey.

    As the foundation stone is laid for the Sivaji Patnaik Memorial Plaza, the legacy of Lt. Sivaji Patnaik is set to be immortalized, ensuring that his contributions and sacrifices continue to inspire generations to come.

    Bhubaneswar. Four members of a family, including two children, were allegedly killed by one of their relatives with an iron rod over a land dispute at Jhikijhiki village in Odisha’s Bargarh district. Police sources said the deceased have been identified as Gurudev Bagh, his wife Sibagri Bagh, their son Chudamai (15) and daughter Shravani (10).
    He said that the accused and the victim were having a dispute over a piece of land for a long time. The accused barged into the house of the deceased on Monday night and attacked all four with an iron rod, killing them on the spot. On receiving information about the incident, the police reached the spot and took the accused into custody. Further investigation has been started.

    Bhubaneswar: As many as 18 candidates from Odisha have cracked the Civil Services Exam 2022, results of which were declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Including the 18 from Odisha as many as 933 candidates across the country have been recommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and Central Services Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.

    With 38th All India Rank (AIR), Anup Das is the state topper. He was followed by Pranati Dash and Kasturi Panda, who secured 42nd AIR and 67th AIR respectively.

    Fire in famous Pen Hospital of Bbsr extinguished completely: Dy Fire officer

    Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at an office stationery shop named Pen Hospital has been doused completely by fire extinguishers on Monday. The shop is situated at Master Canteen Square of the Capital city.

    According to the Bhubaneswar Dy Fire officer, the fire was caused due to a short circuit in the A/C and it spread to the entire shop as it houses inflammatory materials.

    On being informed, two fire brigades were rushed to the spot and used advance rescue tender for smoke exhaust. A total of 25 nos of staff and officers have been engaged in the firefighting. After a few hours, the fire was completely extinguished.

    Though nobody was injured due to the fire, the owner of the shop Rabi Jain’s property worth lakhs of rupees are stated to be gutted following the mishap.

    The shops used to sell different office stationery items like staplers, punching machine, sticky tapes, scissors, glue, calculator, tape dispenser, desk tidy, pen cups, note holders, paper clip, waste buckets, ink cartridges, toners, printing papers, photocopy papers, card holders , files, folders, letter holders, document holders, paper trays, envelope, notebooks, wire bound notebooks, writing pads, personal organizers, ballpoint pens, fountain pens, pencils, porous point pen, rollerball pen, highlighter pen, markers and many more.

    A heavy traffic jam was seen at the post as Master Canteen Square is one of the major locations of Bhubaneswar and several passersby stopped their vehicles to have a glance of the fire mishap.

    Bhubaneswar ED seizes high end Audi of Golden Baba

    Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate in Bhubaneshwar has recovered a high end Audi Q5 car belonging to the much talked about Golden Baba.

    The recovered car has been valued at around Rs. 51 Lakhs (approx.) It belongs to Jyoti Ranjan Beura, popularly known as Golden Baba.

    The car was seized by the Enforcement Directorate in Bhubaneshwar under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA), said reports.

    Earlier on April 27, 2023 the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had seized an Audi car of the conman Jyoti Ranjan Beura alias Golden Baba from CRP in capital city of Bhubaneswar of Odisha. The Audi car has an estimated value of 75 lakh rupees. However, it was a secondhand car, which the fraudster bought for 51 lakh rupees.

    According to reports, the ED was chasing the fraudster who was reportedly trying to abscond. He ditched the vehicle and fled from the scene.

    Jyoti Ranjan Beura alias Golden Baba was arrested in the fraud case of Rs 5.5 crore. The Commissionerate Police had arrested the fraudster from the Chandrasekharpur area of Bhubaneswar for allegedly duping a resident of Keonjhar district on December 31, 2018.

    He had also swindled money from several people and companies on the pretext of sanctioning loans from finance companies.

    The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch had earlier probed two of his financial fraud, amounting to Rs 12.04 crore and Rs 4.05 crore respectively. He had allegedly taken 12 cheques totaling to Rs 12.04 crore from a mining company with the promise to get a loan of Rs 110 crore sanctioned.

    Several documents are also sized during the raid on his house.

    Apart from this, he had an agreement with 4 to 5 companies for which he had collected Rs 100 crore through the post-dated cheques.

    Previously, the EOW had also Rs 51 lakh, 1.5 kg of gold worth Rs 40 lakh from him. He reportedly owned four luxury cars.

    Sources said that a total of 19 cases are pending against Beura in various police stations in the state.

    Bhubaneswar: In keeping with the high pass percentage of students who have passed in Odisha Matric exams this year, the number of Plus 2 seats has also been increased.

    The School and Mass Education Department of the Government of Odisha has decided to upgrade schools in various districts of the State and increase the number of Plus 2 seats.

    The Department has published an official notification in this regard. It has prepared an exhaustive list of the schools that have been upgraded and posted it on twitter. The tweet on this matter was shared on the official twitter page of the Information and Public Relations Department Government of Odisha.

    According to reports on May 20, the Odisha government was contemplating on increasing the number of Plus 2 seats if the need arises said the newly appointed School and Mass Education Minister Pramila Mallik.

    The need to increase the number of plus 2 seats was felt due to the fact that as many as 96.4 percent of students have passed Matric exams this year that is 2023 in Odisha.

    The Minister had further added in the presser that, “Necessary measures will be taken so that no student will have to suffer.” It is worth mentioning that, the Minister also informed that some changes will be made in the Matric Summative I and II examinations.
