    odisha vigilance got 3 crore cash during raid on an officer

    Bhubaneswar (IANS) | Odisha Vigilance on Friday unearthed over Rs three crore in cash during raids at the properties of Additional Sub-Collector. Vigilance Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Radhakrishna said, Vigilance teams are simultaneously raiding nine locations of Nabarangpur Additional Deputy Collector Prashant Kumar Raut.

    So far, vigilance officials have recovered Rs 2.25 crore in cash from Raut’s Bhubaneswar residence, while Rs 77 lakh was recovered from his Naurangpur residence, he said.

    Further search operation is on and details will be shared later, the SP said.

    The raids are being conducted at his two-storey house at Kanan Vihar in Bhubaneswar, his residence and office at Nabarangpur and his ancestral house at Bhadrak.

    Vigilance officials said teams are also conducting raids at the house of his relatives and five other places.

    Odisha: Schools in 3 districts open today post summer vacations

    Bhubaneswar: Today the government schools opened in the remaining three districts of Odisha today. Schools have opened in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Balangir districts.

    All these districts will have morning school timings till 26 June. In the morning from 6 o’clock to 10 o’clock shall be the school timings.

    From 26 June the school will run on regular schedule, said reliable reports. The District Magistrate has decided to hold classes as per regular timings.

    According to the available information, in view of the severe summer heat, the state government had issued instructions to open the schools on June 21 instead of June 19.

    However, keeping in view the summer season conditions in Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Nuyapada and Balangir, the District Magistrates of the respective districts were asked by the School and Public Education Department to decide whether to close the school or to continue the vacation.

    Bhubaneswar: Rain, lightning, and thunderstorms have occurred in various parts across Odisha bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat.

    According to the local MeT office, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning has affected some parts of Odisha.

    The districts of Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi And Kandhamal ( Including Bhubaneswar City) within next three hours shall experience rain, lightning, and thunderstorms

    The bulletin further read that, “People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike”

    Waterlogging has been experienced in a few parts of the Capital city of Odisha said various reliable reports.

    Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued now cast warning for 21 districts of Odisha till 7.30 pm on Wednesday.

    Light to moderate rain, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph is likely to affect some parts of Balasore, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Angul, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bodh and Jajpur districts in 3 hours.

    The MeT office had earlier issued similar warning for five coastal districts – Balasore, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khurda and Jajpur – till 5.30 pm.

    People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

    Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a foreign liquor shop caught fire in Shaheed Nagar area of Odisha’s Capital City of Bhubaneswar.

    After receiving information about the matter, the fire service personnel reached the spot and are trying to take control over the blaze.

    The capital police have also reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. The reason of the blaze is suspected to be short-circuit.

    Bhubaneswar: The heatwave condition of Odisha was becoming unbearable day by day. Meanwhile, on Monday mid-night a sigh of relief has come to the lives of people living in Bhubaneswar. The capital city received heavy rain with thunderstorm and lightning at mid-night on Monday.

    On Sunday, the residents of the Twin City of Odisha- Bhubaneswar and Cuttack – witnessed temperature of 41.6 and 40.2 degree Celsius respectively.

    Gopalpur in Ganjam district was the coolest place of the day as it reported a temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius.

    Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted that the intense heat wave condition in Odisha will continue till June 21 and thereafter the State is likely to get some relief as the Monsoon is expected to hit the state by the said date.

    It was learned that so far, 20 cases regarding alleged death due to heatwaves have been received by the government. However, only one death case has been confirmed so far from the district of Balasore.

    People across the State have been advised to take precautionary measures like avoiding heat exposure during peak hours, staying hydrated, and caring for vulnerable persons including old, children, sick, and pregnant women.

    Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP on Thursday confirmed that Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Dharmendra Pradhan will contest from Odisha constituencies in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

    Speaking to media persons, state general secretary of the party Prithviraj Harichandan said the two members of Rajya Sabha are confirmed to contest the elections in 2024. But their constituencies have not been confirmed yet, he added.

    “Both Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will surely contest in the elections. The party and the MPs are preparing for the purpose. But their constituencies have not been decided by the party,” Harichandan said.

    As per the speculations in the political circle, Pradhan may be assigned Sambalpur or Dhenkanal constituency and Vaishnaw either Balasore or Cuttack seats.

    It may be noted that Vaishnaw was nominated to Rajya Sabha from Odisha and Pradhan from Madhya Pradesh.

    Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a nowcast warning with yellow mesage for six districts of Odisha including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities on Friday.

    As per the warning, light to moderate rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may hit some parts of Nayagarh, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Puri districts by 7.30 pm today.

    People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike.

    The MeT Centre has also issued warning about light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rain for some parts of districts of Nayagarh, Nuapada, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts by 6 pm today.

    Bhubaneswar: Day temperature crossed the 44 degree Celsius mark in Bhubaneswar for the first time this year as the Odisha capital city reported 44.4 degrees till 2.30 PM today.

    According to the latest bulletin of the city based regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Jharsuguda was the hottest place of the State as the day temperature soared to 44.6 degrees Celsius till 2.30 PM, it was followed by Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur where the temperature rose to 44.4 degrees.

    Likewise, Hirakud and Keonjhar boiled at 43.8 and 40 degree Celsius respectively.

    Meanwhile, the weatherman said that there will be no large change in maximum temperature during next 4 days and slight fall thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha. It is likely to be above normal by 4-7 degree Celsius at a few places over the districts of the State during next 4 days; consequently, hot and discomfort weather likely during next 4-5 days.

    People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during 11 AM and 3 PM.

    Bhubaneswar: The day temperature in Odisha is becoming unbearable day by day. In such a situation, Jharsuguda recorded 43.4 degrees Celcius at 11.30 am, while Bhubaneswar recorded 41.6 degrees Celcius.

    The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave to severe heatwave alerts in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The MeT has also issued an orange warning for 15 districts and a yellow warning for 5 districts of Odisha for a heatwave.

    The 15 districts including Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Khordha, Kalahandi, Angul, Deogarh and Boudh will experience rise in temperature. On the other hand, districts including Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj have received a yellow warning for heatwave.

    The heatwave is expected to continue for a few more days. The regional weather center has predicted that the day temperature will decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

    A heatwave alert has been issued for various districts of Odisha, said the latest MeT report. People have been advised to refrain from stepping outside the house from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.

    They have been asked to take necessary precautions in case going out of the home within the time is unavoidable.
