Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan parallel road in Odisha delayed due to protest by slum dwellers

Bhubaneswar : Encroachment has stood as a major hurdle before completion of the under construction parallel road on the right side of the busy Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan route

The state government had planned to construct two new roads parallel to the existing road from Jaydev vihar to Nandankanan.

The left parallel road from Ekamrakanan to Pathargadia is also facing problems of encroachments and diversion of forest areas.

The administration is facing opposition in eviction of some parts of Saliasahi and Chunakoli slums. Out of the 13 km stretch, construction of 9.5 km has been completed and the rest 3.5 km stretch is yet to be completed.

The administration evicted many roadside shops and slums ahead of the hockey world cup. However, it failed to demolish these two slums as slum dwellers are opposing the eviction drive.

The Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan road is one of the busiest in the city. Several educational institutions and commercial establishments are connected through the road. It also has residential areas in localities such as Sailashree Vihar and Niladri Vihar.
