    Mother Daughter Killed As Truck Hits 2-Wheeler

    Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, a mother and daughter duo were killed after a truck loaded with bricks hit two-wheeler they were travelling in. The accident took place in Sadar police limit of Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.

    According to sources, the duo were on their way to Jagatsinghpur Hospital when the truck collided head-on with their two-wheeler. Due to the accident, both of them died on the spot.

    Following the accident, there was unrest in the area as locals blocked the road by burning tyres demanding compensation for the deceased.

    On being informed, police reached the spot and tried to control the situation. They also recovered the bodies and sent it for autopsy. The identities of the deceased is yet to be ascertained by the police.

    The cops have started to probe into the incident. Further detailed report in this matter is awaited.

    Six-lane Ring Road to be Constructed in Cuttack; Slum Eviction Begins

    Cuttack: A six-lane ring road will be constructed in Cuttack town of Odisha. The Cuttack Municipality Corporation (CMC) has informed about the construction of this six-lane ring road recently for the development of the Silver city.

    Following the construction of this six-lane ring road, the Khannagar Netaji Bus Terminal will be connected directly to the National Highway Number 16.

    As the area in which the road is to be constructed houses a huge slum, the same has to be evicted. The slum eviction has been started from today near Khannagar for the construction six-lane ring road.

    According to reports, the residents of slum will be relocated to a different area in the city. The eviction process has been initiated by the Cuttack Municipality Corporation.

    In today’s eviction process, the houses of 42 slum dwellers will be demolished. Over 42 families will be accommodated in Braj Biharipur Primary School for seven days, said reliable reports. Along with this, each family will be given assistance of Rs. 50,000 from the district administration.

    Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mohanty, informed that the evicted slum dwellers will be resettled near Dhableswargada in Cuttack.

    Tahasildar of Karanjia arrested on DA charges by Odisha Vigilance

    Mayurbhanj: Odisha Vigilance today has arrested Charles Nayak the Tahasildar of Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district for accumulation of disproportionate assets

    The Tahasildar has been arrested under Police Station Case No 5/2023 registered U/s-7/12 PC Amendment Act, 2018 as prima facie evidence has been well established against him.

    The said Tahasildar will be forwarded today to the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance in Baripada of Mayurbhanj.

    A vigilance team has conducted simultaneous raids at his government quarters in Mayurbhanj’s Karanjia and ancestral home in Bhadrak district of Odisha May 29, 2023.

    Sources said that the vigilance conducted raids on the properties of Charles Nayak on the basis of allegation of demand and acceptance of bribe Rs.12,00,000/- (Rupees Twelve Lakhs) from a complainant.

    Charles reportedly demanded bribe from the complainant in order to release the compensation cheque of Rs 51,75,810, which the complainant recently received after wining in a land acquisition case. The complainant was awarded a compensation of Rs 51,75,810/- recently in lieu of acquisition of his land by the NHAI authorities. The Tahsildar demanded the bribe amount in the form of two blank cheques of Rs.10 lakhs and Rs.2 lakhs.

    Finding no alternative, the complainant handed over 2 blank cheques to the Tahasildar. After handing over and presentation of cheques in the bank for withdrawal of the bribe amount, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance for legal action.

    In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No.5/2023 has been registered. A search warrant was issued by the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada. Four teams of Odisha Vigilance led by one Additional SP, 7 Dy SP, 3 Inspector and other staff are conducting searches in the office and premises of Tahasildar at the following places:

    1) Office room of Tahasildar-Karanjia.

    2) Official residence of Tahasildar Karanjia located at Karanjia.

    3) Residential house of Sri Charls Nayak located at near Dist Hospital, Bhadrak.

    4) Another place located at Chadei Bhol, Karanjia.

    Bhubaneswar: With just one year remaining for the 2024 general election. The political heat is on the rise in various constituencies for the upcoming 2024 assembly election.

    In Odisha’s Cuttack district, the ruling party Biju Janta Dal (BJD) lost the Barbati-Cuttack constituency seat in the 2019 elections. Therefore, district BJM supervisor Prafulla Mallik has called all the leaders to come together to occupy this seat again.

    On the other hand, the Barbati-Cuttack constituency MLA and Congress leader Muhammad Mokim is allegedly having a rift with the senior leaders of the party. The reason behind it is suspected to be disagreement over ideas and concepts between the MLA and the senior leaders of Congress.

    Meanwhile, Biju Janta Dal leaders are trying to make the most of the situation. They have started involving themselves in various developmental works. As per the reports, Cuttack Mayor Subas Singh is spending over two days and nights in every ward while campaigning.

    Former MLA Debashis Samantaraya is also campaigning for the upcoming elections, said reliable reports. He is visiting areas like tea stalls where locals gather on a regular basis and talking in an informal manner to inform people about the various developmental activities that the party is involved in for the 2024 elections.

    Bhubaneswar: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) of Odisha will announce the Plus Two Science and Commerce results by May 31 at 11 am.

    This was informed by the Examination Controller. According to CHSE Examination Controller the formalities will be completed by tomorrow and the results of the Science and Commerce streams will be published by 31st May 2023 positively.

    On the other hand, the exact date of the publication of the results of Arts and Vocational courses is yet to be known, it is expected that the results might be announced by June 8

    The CHSE, Odisha conducted the Plus-2 exams from March 1 to April 5. The evaluation of the answer sheets was done in two phases. While the first phase of evaluation was done from April 10 to 22, the second phase was held between April 23 and May 7.

    Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik bought the first ticket for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup 2023 that will be played at Bhubaneswar from 9-18 June. Captain of the Indian Football team, Sunil Chhetri handed the first ticket for the marquee event to the Chief Minister in the presence of Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, the General Secretary of the All-India Football Federation and Coach of the Indian Football team, Igor Stimac.

    Following the success of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, Odisha is all set to host yet another international sporting spectacle. This four-nation tournament will feature India, Lebanon, Mongolia, and Vanuatu.

    Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “There is a lot of love for football amongst the people of Odisha. Hosting this spectacular event is another honour for us and will undoubtedly thrill the numerous football fans across the state and India. I would like to wish the teams the best of luck and encourage the fans to turn out in huge numbers to watch the top-quality football that will unfold.”

    Odisha has been emerging as a major hub for football as well. Odisha hosted the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, SAFF U-20 Championship 2022, ISL seasons, IWL 2021-22, and the Odisha Women’s League thus providing a huge boost to the development of Football ecosystem in the state.
    In partnership with AIFF, the capital city of Bhubaneswar is also the base of the Indian U16 and U19 teams, frequently hosting camps and training sessions at the state-of-the-art infrastructure.

    The interest in football in the state continues to grow as the state-partnered Odisha FC that is based out of the Kalinga Sports Complex recently brought home the coveted Super Cup.     Puri: As many as seven people were arrested by the police on Tuesday for their links with a case of bombing at the Malatipatpur water park in Puri district of Odisha.

    A joint team of Chandanpur and Puri Sadar police arrested the accused persons after conducting raid at different places of the locality. Cops also seized three country-made pistols and four live bullets from their possessions.

    A group of local youths went to the water park on May 25 and demanded for a free entry and parking after meeting its owner. Soon, a heated argument ensued between the water park owner and the youths after the former refused to comply with the latter.

    Later, the miscreants reportedly hurled bomb at the Wonder World Water Park and Resort in Malatipatpur.

    Police started an investigation into the matter based on the complaint filed by the water park owner and arrested the accused persons.

    Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a minor was critically injured after being trapped on a bridge of Cuttack JICA Box Drain Project work. The incident has come to fore from Kesharpur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.

    According to sources, locals spotted the minor girl trapped on the bridge of Cuttack JICA Box Drain Project work. After a long time of tireless efforts, the local residents rescued the girl. They immediately rushed the injured to nearby hospital after rescuing her. The condition of the victim is stable now, said reliable reports.

    The age of the minor is said to be around 16 years, however her identity has not been disclosed. According to reports, the victim is a resident of Kesharpur.

    Despite reporting the incident many times, no one from JICA or any other authority came to the spot to rescue the trapped minor girl. The locals also alleged that temporary roads are not being constructed for the residents despite repeated complaints.

    Odisha Govt Targets To Construct 15,000 Km Roads In Next 5 Years

    Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government targets to construct 15,000 km roads under Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana with an expenditure of Rs 12,000 crore in next 5 years, said Rural Development Minister Preeti Ranjan Ghadai on Monday.

    Speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar after performance review of the department by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the minister said besides the roads, 1,500 new bridges would be built with a cost of Rs 6,000 crore under Biju Setu Yojana (BSY) during the period to improve the road connectivity in rural areas of the state. While the government had committed to construct 750 bridges, 679 have already been completed and 900 more will be built by March, 2024, he added.

    Speaking on the achievements of the department, Ghadai said 2,241 roads have been constructed under various schemes and 1,304 more are under construction. Besides, 1,03,731 km roads are being maintained by the department for connectivity to 18,161 habitations.

    Similarly, more than 10,000 km roads have been constructed with green technology and 8,700 colleges, schools, multipurpose cyclone shelters and other buildings have been built in rural areas.

    The minister said the budget for the department has increased by 25 times compared to 2000-2001 from Rs 305 crore to Rs 7,500 crore in 2023-24.

    Principal secretary of the department Sanjay Kumar Singh was present at the meeting.
