    BSF gets new chief after two years

    Border Security Force (BSF) got its new chief on Sunday. The development came a late-night when orde the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the Ministry Of Home Affairs proposal of appointing Nitin Agarwal as the new Director General of the BSF.

    The Border Security Force is the country’s premier security agency primarily tasked to guard the 4,096-km-long international border borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh apart from rendering a variety of duties in the internal security domain. The BSF has over 2.65 lakh personnel working in various capacities. CRPF DG Sujoy Lal Thaosen has been holding the additional charge of BSF for the last five months.

    Nitin Agarwal is a 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Kerala cadre. He is currently posted as the Additional Director General of Operations at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He was promoted to the rank of ADG in 2014 while serving with the ITBP.

    BSF shoots down two drones, seizes 2.6 kg of drugs

    The Border Security Force shot down two drones near the International Border in Amritsar sector late on Friday evening and seized 2.6 kg of narcotics.

    “On May 19, at 9.24 pm, BSF troops heard the buzzing sound of a suspected drone and something being dropped in the fields near Rattan Khurd village in Amritsar district,” a BSF officer said.

    As per the laid down drill, the troops immediately reacted to intercept the drone by firing at it, he said.

    During the subsequent search of the area, the troops found a quadcopter, DJI Matrice RTK-300, along with a consignment containing two packets of suspected heroin attached to the drone by means of an iron ring. Four luminous strips were also found pasted on the consignment for easy detection. The gross weight of the recovered package was 2.6 kg.

    In the second incident, BSF troops deployed heard the buzzing sound of a suspected drone near Udhar Dhariwal village in the same sector and fired towards it, the officer said. During a search of the area, the troops found a black drone, a DJI Matrice RTK, in a partially broken condition from the fields adjacent to the village.

    Earlier this week, in three incidents on the same day, the BSF had seized over 17 kg of narcotics and a pistol after shooting at drones and miscreants in Amritsar and Fazilka sectors.

    BSF recovered 9 kg heroin in Punjab

    Chandigarh (IANS) | The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday claimed to have seized 9 kg of heroin from near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Amritsar district. BSF personnel posted on the border heard the sound of a suspicious drone intruding into Indian territory from Pakistan near Dhano Kalan village on Tuesday night. As per the prescribed drill, the troops fired at the drone.

    After which Kshetri was searched. During this, they found three large packets wrapped in yellow adhesive tape from the fields of Bachiwind village. On opening the three packets recovered, nine small packets containing about 9.5 kg of heroin were found.

    In another incident, troops on Wednesday recovered five bottles containing suspected amount of heroin hidden in fields near a fence near Mehandipur village in Tarn Taran district.

    As per reports, Punjab shares a 553-km-long international border with Pakistan along a barbed wire fence.

    BSF recovers huge dump of Maoist explosives in Malkangiri

    Malkangiri: The security forces have unearthed a huge dump of arms and explosives of the Maoists in Odisha’s Malkangiri on the Saheed Diwas (martyrs’ day) observed by the banned outfit.

    On the basis of specific information about the Maoist dump in Balimela Reserve Forest near village Taimal, the BSF launched a special operation on Thursday. The BSF personnel found the dump in Balimela forest between Lariguda and Taimal villages under Chitrakonda police station on Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border.

    The arms and explosives that were recovered from the dump included 2 SBML guns, 2 empty SBML shells, 11 hand grenades and 28 detonators besides 3 steel tiffin boxes.

    Recovery of the huge dump explosives and SBML gun is expected to demoralise the Maoist cadres and their sympathisers, said a press release of the BSF. It would also motivate the security forces to operate more actively in the region.

    Balimela Reserve Forest has been the safe haven for Maoist outfits since long due to topographical reasons and favourable atmosphere. BSF troops and police have been actively operating in the area to curb Maoist menace in the region and create sense of security among the local populace.
