    ‘Tata Consultancy Services to continue its investment in key and emerging areas’: CEO 

    BENGALURU: The country’s largest IT services company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will continue its investments in key and emerging areas. Announcing this in his first internal note to employees, which is seen by TNIE, after taking charge as its CEO, K Krithivasan said, “As we step into the next phase of TCS, we will continue our investments in key and emerging areas like Cloud, Cyber Security, 5G, IoT, Generative AI, etc. with an unrelenting focus on customer relationships and impeccable delivery.”

    Krithivasan is assuming the role of CEO and MD of TCS at a time IT companies are facing global macroeconomic headwinds and a slowdown in growth. He joined TCS in 1989 and worked across delivery, sales, client management and business in leadership roles.

    Before taking charge of this role, Krithivasan was President and Global Head of the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) Business Group at TCS. In FY23, TCS’ BFSI sector grew by 11.8% and TCS generated $27.9 billion in revenues with over 6 lakh employees across 50 countries.

    K Krithivasan has been with TCS for close to 34 years. He completed his BE in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Madras and a Master’s Degree in Industrial and Management Engineering from IIT Kanpur.

    Meanwhile, TCS asks its employees to work from the office for at least three days a week. Since March 2020, due to a pandemic, a majority of IT employees are working from home.

    In a statement, TCS said, “Over the last several months we have been encouraging associates in India to return to office and spend 3 days a week at the workplace. This has yielded good results with many of our people returning to office. Our objective is to have all associates work from office for at least 3 days a week on average in the month, and towards the same, we continue working with all our groups to have everyone participate.”

    PM Modi meets CEO of Japanese semiconductor firm, discusses tech

    NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had a productive meeting with Toshi Shiabata, the CEO of Japanese semiconductor firm Renesas Electronics and discussed various aspects of technology and innovation in the field of semiconductors.

    The Japanese company’s CEO called on PM Modi on Friday.Replying to a tweet by Renesas Electronics, the Prime Minister tweeted, “Had a productive meeting with Mr Toshi Shibata, CEO of @RenesasGlobal. We discussed aspects relating to tech, innovation and India’s strides in the world of semiconductors.”

    Earlier, Renesas Electronics posted on Twitter that Toshi Shibata met the Indian Prime Minister to discuss the role of the semiconductor industry and how it contributes to India’s vision for a digital future.

    “Our CEO Toshi Shibata met with India’s PM @narendramodi to discuss the role that our industry plays & how we can contribute to India’s vision for a digital future. We’re committed to enabling #semiconductor ecosystem and digital infrastructure in #India. @PMOIndia #digitalization,” Renesas Electronics wrote on Twitter.

    Earlier in March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met NXP’s President and Chief Executive Officer Kurt Sievers. The two discussed the transformative landscape in the semiconductors and innovation world.”Happy to have met Mr Kurt Sievers, the CEO of @NXP and discuss the transformative landscape in the world of semiconductors and innovation. India is emerging as a key force in these sectors, powered by our talented youth,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.

    NXP Semiconductors NV is a Dutch semiconductor designer and manufacturer with headquarters in Eindhoven, Netherlands with locations throughout the globe.

    In a bid to give a boost to semiconductor manufacturing in the country, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw announced in February this year that the government will come up with a program very soon to put the country on a good semiconductor journey for the next 10 years.

    The government launched a programme called Semicon India Programme in December 2021 with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore. The programme seeks to support the development of the semiconductors and the display manufacturing ecosystem in India.

    The minister had apprised the parliamentary consultative committee in 2023 that several state governments like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are in talks with the companies to set up semiconductor manufacturing plants/fab complexes.

    Bhubaneswar: For the first time in Odisha live webcasting from all the polling booths under Jharsuguda constituency is to be taken up on the election day, during the upcoming by-poll, said Nikunja Dhal, the Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha on Saturday.

    By arrangement for webcasting the election officers can watch the scene of the booths from their places.

    As many as 40 booths have been identified as sensitive under the Jharsuguda constituency. However, the law and order situation is fine as of now.

    Two major political parties have come up with complaints regarding the violation of the code of conduct. The district collector has got these complaints. The investigation is going on in this matter.

    The CEO said that he is in complete touch with the Collector and SP of the Jharsuguda district.

    CEO’s fatal accident: Mumbai Police arrests 23-year-old speeding SUV driver

    MUMBAI: Hours after the CEO of a technology firm was killed by a speeding SUV in Mumbai’s Worli area on Sunday morning, Worli Police arrested the accused driver.

    “The accused driver, Sumer Merchant (23) was arrested after registering a case under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” police said.

    Police will present the accused driver in court tomorrow.

    Earlier in the day, Rajalaxmi Ram Krishnan, the CEO of a technology firm, died after she was hit by a speeding SUV in Mumbai’s Worli area, the official said.

    The deceased, a resident of the Dadar-Matunga area, was out for a morning jogging when the incident occurred, the Worli police said.

    The incident occurred at 6:30 am near Worli Dairy, just a few meters away from the Worli-Bandra sea link when the deceased returned from her morning jog with her husband.

    The police further said that the car’s driver identified as Sumer Merchant also got injured and has been detained.

    The police have also registered a case against the driver in several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

    “The blood test of the accused has also been taken so that it can be known whether the accused had consumed alcohol. The car driver works in a private company and lives in the Tardeo area of Mumbai,” police said.

    Further investigation into the matter is underway.
