    CMRL tests tunnel boring machine for underground line in Corridor 4

    CHENNAI: For Phase II Metro rail construction, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) conducted a factory acceptance test for the second tunnel boring machine (TBM) in the underground line of Corridor 4.

    The underground section of corridor 4 is split into two packages (UG-01 -and UG-02) each 4 km of twin tunnels. And in order to complete the approximately 16 km tunnelling, four TBMs are proposed to execute the entire tunnelling, both upline and downline tunnels.

    Hence, the factory acceptance test of the third TBM of the corridor, which is the second TBM for UG-01 package was done in Tiruvallur district today.

    “TBM named Flamingo (S1352A) weighing approximately 700 MT will be dismantled in parts, packed and transported to its destination at Light House station, Marina Beach. The construction of the TBM launching shaft is under progress at Light House Station and is expected to be ready to lower and assemble the TBM in the month of August,” stated the press note.

    Subsequently, this TBM will be launched in the downline of corridor 4 and will mine at a maximum depth of 29 metre below ground starting from Light House, Kutchery road, Thirumaylai, Alwarpet, Bharatidasan and finally scheduled to arrive at Boat Club in Nov 2025.

    Corridor 4 is being constructed from Light House to Poonamallee Bypass for 26.1 km. And, the underground rail construction for the underground line from Light House station to Marina beach to Kodambakkam flyover is underway.

    Meanwhile, the CMRL along with the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) conducted a two-day technology show that concluded on Thursday.

    The show served as a platform for innovation and collaboration between buyers and exhibitors mainly to identify the metro system components and develop vendors locally in Tamil Nadu. This will reduce the dependencies on the supplier, cost control and reduce the lead time and in-time availability of materials for ensuring timely maintenance of metro systems.

    CHENNAI: In a measure to increase footfall, the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has launched the facility to buy e-tickets through WhatsApp at Chennai’s Thirumangalam Metro Rail Station on Wednesday.

    As per the reports, Commuters leaving from their home or office can send a message of the departure and destination location to +91 8300086000 and pay the fare through net banking mobile wallets, credit or debit cards, and download the ticket.

    It has also been informed that commuters can scan the QR code sent to your WhatsApp number and take their ride.This move will help avoiding long queues for buying tickets or for smart card top-ups. Initially, the CMRL had a token and smart card system. During the pandemic, CMRL introduced QR code tickets for contactless transactions.

    WhatsApp e-ticket for Metro is already been introduced in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

    CHENNAI: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has clarified that it has no association with any unauthorised agencies that assure candidates for a job with the CMRL.

    In a press note released on Thursday, it stated that some unscrupulous and unauthorised agencies are issuing fake news on social media / WhatsApp and other forums regarding employment opportunities in CMRL. “CMRL absolutely dissociates itself from this false recruitment campaign, “it said.

    Further the note went on to highlight that CMRL has not authorised any individual or firm or agency to carry out recruitments on its behalf and those recruited go through a formal selection process with the department.

    “All communications to the applicants must come from a verifiable CMRL email address or CMRL authenticated letter head and not from an Internet address such as Rediff mail, yahoo, Gmail or mobile line or WhatsApp or fake CMRL letter head or agency and others,” the note added.

    And the vacancies are only posted at www.chennaimetrorail.org/careers and published in newspapers.

    Lastly, CMRL warned strict action against those indulging in fake recruitment rackets and cautioned candidates of such unauthorised agencies.

    CMRL bags Green World Award under Carbon Reduction category

    CHENNAI: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has won the Green World Awards 2023, hosted in Miami, USA.

    The awards recognise environmental initiatives and its positive impact in order to reinforce healthy environmenal practices.

    In its press release, the CMRL stated that the award is a recognition of its sustainable model and environmental initiatives. The CMRL won silver under the Carbon Reduction category.

    The release further stated the Metro rail is contributing towards improving energy efficiency and water management, and ensures a fast, comfortable and safe travelling experience.
