    Dead body of woman recovered from locked store in Cuttack

    Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a dead body of a woman was recovered from a locked house in Jagatpur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.

    The deceased has been identified as Kavita Behera, a resident of Jagatpur.

    According to sources, Kavita and her husband were staying in the area for the last few month. Both of them were married for the second time. However, the deceased’s husband is missing after the incident. The locals suspect that he allegedly killed his wife and fled from the spot.

    On being informed about the matter, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. The cops have also initiated a probe into the matter.

    5 NDRF jawans injured due to monkey attack in Cuttack

    Cuttack: In a shocking incident, five NDRF third battalion jawans got injured after being attacked by a monkey inside the Mundali campus in the Banki area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.

    The jawans were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. The condition of them is said to be stable now.

    According to sources, the forest department officials set up traps to capture the monkey.

    Heat wave alert in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack

    Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave to severe heatwave alerts in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The MeT has also issued an orange warning for 15 districts and a yellow warning for 5 districts of Odisha for a heatwave.

    The 15 districts including Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Khordha, Kalahandi, Angul, Deogarh and Boudh will experience rise in temperature. On the other hand, districts including Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj have received a yellow warning for heatwave.

    Earlier today, Bhubaneswar recorded 34.2 degrees Celcius at 8.30 am. The temperature is likely to remain high till 18th June as IMD has predicted that the monsoon will reach Odisha after 3 days.

    The heatwave is expected to continue for a few more days. The regional weather center has predicted that the day temperature will decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

    A heatwave alert has been issued for various districts of Odisha, said the latest MeT report. People have been advised to refrain from stepping outside the house from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.

    They have been asked to take necessary precautions in case going out of the home within the time is unavoidable.

    Cuttack: Odisha vigilance arrests Asst. Engineer in DA case

    Cuttack: The Odisha vigilance has arrested the assistant engineer of the Sadar block of Cuttack district for possession of disproportionate assets.

    The accused has been identified as Bikash Chandra Bhuyan, an assistant engineer at Sadar Block of the district.

    According to sources, simultaneous searches were conducted at his residence by Odisha Vigilance on the strength of search warrants issued by Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack. The searches were conducted by three teams of Odisha Vigilance comprising 3DSPs, 4 Inspectors, and other staff.

    During the search at his the following assets  were unearthed in the name of Sri Bhuyan and his family members;

    1) One double-storeyed well-furnished building over plot No.1116 of area 3200 sqft. at Soubhagya Nagar, Bhubaneswar.

    2) Seven plots in prime areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Details are under;

    1. i) A piece of land vide Plot No 1116/6209, Khatian No.813/2275 area Ac 0.04 decimal, mouza Bermunda (Soubhagya Nagar), Bhubaneswar.
    2. ii) A piece of land vide plot No.1126/6190, Khatian No.813/2252 area Ac 0.03 decimals, mouza unit-19, Bermunda, Bhubaneswar.

    iii) A piece of land vide Khatian No 230/852, Plot No.243/2520, area Ac 0.13 decimals, mouza Aiginia, Bhubaneswar.

    iv) A piece of land vide Plot No.1983/5767, Khatian No.985/899, Area Ac 0.02 decimals, mouza Pratapnagari, Cuttack.
    v) A piece of land vide Plot No 1983/5767, Khatian No.985/899, area Ac 0.008 decimals, mouza Pratapnagari.
    vi) A piece of land vide Khata No 48, area Ac 1.020 decimals, mouza Cuttack Sadar.
    vii) A piece of land vide Khata No 653/46, area Ac 1.040 decimals, mouza Saindha, Balisahi, Cuttack.

    The measurement and valuation/assessment of the above building/plots is being carried out by Vigilance Technical Wing.

    3) Approx Rs.1 Crore spent on Engineering & Medical education of his son and daughter.

    4) Bank deposits Rs.12.62 Lakhs.

    5) Gold & Silver jewelry worth Rs.38 Lakhs.

    6) Investment in Cryptocurrency worth Rs.1.23 Lakh

    7) 1 four-wheeler (Duster) & 3 two-wheelers worth Rs.13.40 Lakhs.

    During house searches so far, the following assets have been unearthed in the name of Sri Bhuyan and his family members;

    Fire reported in coal-laden goods train at Radhakishorepur Station in Cuttack

    Athagarh: A goods train carrying coal reportedly caught fire at Radhskishorepur station in Athagarh of Cuttack district on Saturday late night.

    According to reports, fire was reported in one of the wagons of coal-laden goods train. Some onlookers spotted the fire and informed the fire department regarding the incident.

    The reason of fire is yet to be ascertained. The Athagarh fire tenders rushed to the spot and have doused the flame.

    Cuttack cyber police recovers 800 SIM cards, 8 arrested

    Cuttack: The Cyber Police in Cuttack has busted another pre-activated SIM card racket and arrested eight persons in this connection.

    As per reports, around 800 SIM cards including 311 pre-activated SIMs were seized. It is worth mentioning that, seven of the arrested accused are staff of a private telecom company.

    The seven accused hail from Puri district and police have seized 16 mobile phones and Rs 2600 from their possession.

    Earlier on June 8, 2023, STF arrested one more accused in the above mentioned case. Earlier three accused were arrested in this case identified as Pradyumna Kumar Sahoo.

    Sahoo is 32 years of Mahitama village under Nuagaon village in Nayagarh district was arrested by STF on 07.06.2023. He is a graduate and had earlier worked as territory sales executive in Idea and as Jio Point manager.

    Now he is working at Black buck, Fastag Company. He had supplied/ sold more than 500 pre-activated SIMs and 150+ pre-activated PayTM Wallets to Pathani Samanta Lenka who was arrested earlier in this case.

    CT & GST raid at transport company in Cuttack

    Cuttack: The Commercial Tax (CT) and Goods and Service Tax (GST) Enforcement team is conducting a raid at a private company in the Manguli area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday.

    The private company has been identified as Anand Cargo Pvt Ltd, a transport company at Manguli Chakk of the district.

    The raid is being conducted over suspicion of non-filing of Goods and Service tax on the stated annual turnover ratio. Nearly 20 officials are engaged in the raid.

    Sources said that the enforcement team has reportedly seized various important documents of the agency and is verifying them to ascertain whether the company avoided paying the GST.

    Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued nowcast warning for twin cities of Odisha – Cuttack and Bhubaneswar – and Jagatsinghpur till 7.15 pm on Thursday

    These places are likely to experience light to moderate rain, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph in 3 hours. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

    The state capital and a few other places had experience heavy rain and thunderstorm accompanied by surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph on Wednesday afternoon, which provided some relief from gruelling heat. There was also temporary power cuts for some time in the city. The thunderstorm activity was witnessed as mercury soared to 41.2 degrees Celsius in Bhubaneswar.

    Notably, yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput till Friday morning. There is a heatwave warning for some places for 3 days.

    Series of Accidents in Cuttack; Intoxicated driver detained

    Cuttack: A series of accidents were reported in Silver City Cuttack on Wednesday late at night. A four-wheeler has caused accidents in several parts of the city. The driver was reportedly intoxicated when drove over many other vehicles causing a series of accidents in Cuttack.

    According to sources, the driver drove through Barabati Stadium, Jobra, Chauliaganj, ran over many vehicles, and left many people injured.

    Following the accidents, locals chased the vehicle and stopped it near Rajendranagar. The locals stopped the driver and beat him up. They also vandalized the vehicle.

    On being informed, Madhupatna IIC, ACP, and other police personnel reached the spot. They tried to calm the aggrieved people and took control over the situation. The cops also detained the accused driver and started to probe into the matter.
