Sambalpur: Mutton plays an important role in Indian marriages. But canceling marriage due to the demand for mutton is very rare. Such a rare incident has come to the fore from Odisha’s Sambalpur district.

According to sources, a girl from Sambalpur was getting married to a man from Sundargarh. In the marriage, all types of cuisines including vegetarian and non-vegetarian were made.  The bridegroom’s side reached the marriage venue. After reaching, all of them had their dinner. But around 5 to 6 could not get to eat mutton. The groom’s side demanded the bride’s parents serve them mutton or else they will cancel the marriage. Following this, the bride’s family arranged mutton from a nearby eatery late at night.

Meanwhile, when the bride got to know about the incident, she immediately canceled the wedding. She said that if her parents and family have gotten embarrassed because of the unavailability of mutton, then she is not interested in getting married to the boy. The groom’s family tried to persuade the bride and apologized for whatever happened but everything went in vain. She disagreed to get married and the groom’s side returned back without the bride.

‘Waste-To-Wonder’ Park, Fountains To Beautify Delhi For G20 Summit

As part of the beautification drive for the upcoming G20 summit, the New Delhi Municipal Council is building a ‘waste-to-wonder’ park and installing water fountains at several intersections in the national capital.

With India presiding over the G20 bloc for a year, the beautification project will enable the NDMC to showcase Delhi’s unique heritage, NDMC Vice Chairman Satish Upadhyay told PTI.

A ‘waste to wonder’ park is being built in Delhi’s upmarket Shanti Path, which will exhibit sculptures made of scrap material. The different sculptures will depict the national animals and birds of all the G20 countries.

These art pieces for the G20 park have been conceptualized and curated by a team of renowned national-level artists with experience in waste-to-wonder projects, Upadhyay said.

“Alongside each piece, an information plate will be placed mentioning the animal, its real picture, and its importance for the country concerned. The details of the artists will also be displayed,” the NDMC vice chairman said.

The NDMC has also erected four sculptures made out of waste material at different intersections in the city, while the installation of fountains is in progress, Upadhyay said.

“As part of the planned renovation works, the tiles on the footpath are being renovated and paint work is underway across New Delhi,” Upadhyay said.

Connaught Place, the heart of the city, is also undergoing a revamp, which is likely to be completed by July, he added.

“The conservation and restoration of Connaught Place include repair works and exterior painting of all buildings in the outer and inner circles and radial roads,” the NDMC vice chairman said.

India assumed the year-long presidency of G20 on December 1. More than 200 meetings are scheduled to be held at 55 locations across the country and the summit will be hosted in Delhi in September 2023.
The G20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US, and the European Union.

HC Refuses To Transfer To Cbi Probe Into Gangster’s Murder

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday refused to order a CBI probe into the murder of gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva, saying the SIT is investigating the incident and it is premature to seek transfer of the case.

A vacation bench of justices DK Upadhyaya and Jaspreet Singh here passed the order on a PIL by local lawyer Moti Lal Yadav who said that the incident in the courtroom had stunned everybody and it should be investigated either by the CBI or a retired high court judge.

The Lucknow bench said that the petition has been filed at a very “premature stage” as it has been only a few days since the Special Investigation Team was constituted.

The court also said that it expects the SIT to conduct a fair and speedy probe.

Disposing of the petition, the bench clarified that the plea can be filed at a later stage if the petitioner feels aggrieved with the probe of SIT.

Earlier, opposing the PIL, advocate general Ajay Kumar Mishra had argued that the state government was taking the June 7 incident very seriously and it constituted a high-level SIT on the same day.

The SIT has been conducting an investigation and the petitioner could not point out any reason as to why the probe should be transferred to any other agency.

During the hearing, the bench said that the deceased was a dreaded criminal but his murder in police custody could not be justified in any manner.

It also said that it expected members of the bar associations to cooperate in security checks on court campuses.

Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva an aide of gangster Mukhtar Ansari was shot dead on June 7 in court premises in Lucknow. The attacker, who was allegedly dressed as a lawyer, opened fire at Maheshwari in the court.

The state government had constituted a three-member SIT to probe the incident.
