    Bus collides head-on with truck in Rourkela; 10 injured

    Rourkela: In a tragic incident, nearly 10 people were critically injured after the bus they were traveling in collided with a truck in Odisha’s Rourkela. The accident took place near Birmitrapur Rani Sati temple in Jharsuguda district.

    According to sources, the passenger bus was on its way to Jharsuguda from Jharkhand. The passenger bus named Rani collided with a cargo truck near Sati mandir. Nearly 10 passengers were critically injured in the accident.

    The locals spotted the accident. They immediately rushed the injured to the nearby hospital and informed the police about the matter. The injured have been admitted to Birmitrapur Health Centre.

    On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the vehicles, and started to probe into the matter.

    New Delhi (IANS) | Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the Indian economy is growing steadily. Due to increase in manufacturing activities and increasing employment opportunities, the Indian economy has registered a positive growth amid ongoing tensions at the international level. In fact, PM Modi distributed appointment letters virtually to more than 70,000 youth selected for various jobs during the Rozgar Mela.

    Addressing the program, PM Modi emphasized that many government schemes like Startup India, Stand Up India and Mudra Yojana have created a lot of employment opportunities. This includes the private sector as well.

    In his video address, PM Modi said that in the last ten years, opportunities for jobs in government departments have also increased. With the establishment of many startups, Indian youth are not only doing self-employment, but are also providing employment to other youth.

    PM Modi claimed that today the world is looking towards India’s government which is politically stable and takes decisive decisions. Let us tell you that employment fairs were organized at 43 places in the country, in which appointment letters were handed over to newly appointed youths. This includes sectors such as financial services, posts, defence, school education, higher education, revenue and health.

    On the other hand, the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) says that with the beginning of the year in India, the unemployment rate is also increasing. The unemployment rate maintained an edge in April 2023 for the fourth consecutive month. If you look at the figures, the unemployment rate in India was 8.11 percent in the month of April, which was 7.8 percent in March 2023.

    If we talk about the month of January, the unemployment rate was at 7.14 percent, which is 0.97 percent less than in April 2023. Looking at the last 12 months, the unemployment rate has ranged from 6.4 to 8.3 percent. The average unemployment rate during this period was recorded at 7.6 percent. According to the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy, the unemployment rate in the month of April was 8.11 per cent, which is the highest.

    Ghazipur landfill fire brought under control after 21 hours

    New Delhi (IANS) | The fire at Delhi’s Ghazipur landfill was brought under control on Tuesday after 21 hours. An officer of Delhi Fire Service (DFS) gave this information. The official said that around 1.30 pm on Monday, a call was received about the fire.

    A total of 19 fire engines along with a robotic machine were rushed to the spot to control and douse the fire, the official said.

    The fire was finally brought under control around 10.30 am on Tuesday, he said.

    In March last year, a huge cloud of smoke engulfed the area and surrounding areas after a massive fire broke out at the dumping yard.

    MBBS students need to complete course in 9 years: NMC

    New Delhi: Students pursuing MBBS need to complete the course within nine years from the date of admission, while they will get only four attempts to clear the first year, according to the new regulations issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

    In the newly issued Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023 or GMER-23, the NMC has stated that there shall be common counselling for admissions to graduate courses at all medical institutions in the country on the basis of the NEET-UG merit list.

    “Under no circumstance, the student shall be allowed more than four attempts for the first year (MBBS) and no student shall be allowed to continue the undergraduate medical course after nine years from the date of admission into the course,” the NMC said in a gazette notification on June 2.

    Students admitted into a Graduate Medical Education Programme shall not be deemed to have completed their graduation until they complete their rotating medical internship as per Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship Regulations, 2021.

    “Without prejudice to anything stated in the present regulations or other NMC regulations, there shall be common counselling for admission to graduate courses in medicine for all medical institutions in India based on the merit list of the NEET-UG,” the gazette said.

    Counselling shall entirely be based on the seat matrix provided by the NMC, provided the common counselling may have multiple rounds as may be necessary, it stated.

    The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) shall publish guidelines for the conduct of common counselling, and the designated authority under Section 17 shall conduct the counselling in conformity with the published guidelines.

    The government will appoint a designated authority for the counselling and decide and notify its agency and method for all undergraduate seats. No medical institute shall admit any candidate to the Graduate Medical Education (GME) course in contravention of these regulations, the regulations added.

    Nuapada: The banking assistant of Bhawanipatna Central Cooperative Bank is under Odisha vigilance scanner over alleged allegation of acquisition of disproportionate assets.

    The accused has been identified as Pradeep Kumar Chandrakar. He is the banking assistant of Bhawanipatna Central Cooperative Bank of Koma Branch in Odisha’s Nuapada district.According to sources, simultaneous house searches are being conducted by Odisha Vigilance led by  three DSPs, 3 Inspectors and other staffs. The raid is being conducted on the strength of search warrants issued by Special Judge,Vigilance, Bhawanipatna. The searches are being conducted at the following four places.1.Residential double storyed house of Chandrakar situated at village Beltukuri, Dist- Nuapada.

    2.Another Double storyed building situated over plinth area of approx 3000 Sq.ft at Beltukuri, Dist- Nuapada.

    3.One under construction House over plinth area of approx. 3000 Sq.Ft. at Beltukuri, Dist- Nuapada.

    4.Office room of Pradeep Kumar Chandrakar at Bhawanipatna Central Cooperative Bank, Komna.

    Odisha: 6 labourers critical after coming in contact with live wire in Jaleswar

    Balasore: In a shocking incident, six labourers were critically injured after coming in contact with live wire while working in Odisha’s Balasore district. The incident has come to the fore from Jaleswar of the district.

    According to sources, the six labourers were working near the Baliapal bus stand in Jaleswar, when they suddenly came in contact with live wire. Due to electrocution, the four of them were critically injured.

    Locals present on the spot, rescued them and immediately rushed them to the nearby hospital, said reliable reports. The condition of the victims of the electrocution  is said to be critical.

    On being informed, police and officials of electricity department also reached the spot and started to probe into the matter.

    Girl died, 4 critical due to electrocution in Paradip

    Paradip: In a tragic incident, a girl died while four other including her parents were critically injured due to electrocution in Paradip. The incident has come to the fore from Balsisahi under Kujang police limts of Odisha’s Jagatsingpur district.

    The deceased has been identified as Ranu Behera, a resident of Balisahi. Ranu’s father, mother, elder brother and a neighbour were critically injured due the electrocution.

    Following the incident, Ranu died on the spot, while the injured were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital. Later, one among the four was shifted to Jagatsinghur District Headquarter Hospital, as his condition deteriorated.

    It is suspected that the electrocution happened due to short-circuit.

    Earlier, six labourers were critically injured after coming in contact with live wire while working in Odisha’s Balasore district.

    According to sources, the six labourers were working near the Baliapal bus stand in Jaleswar, when they suddenly came in contact with live wire. Due to electrocution, the four of them were critically injured.

    STF seizes 161 kg of Ganja in Odisha’s Angul; 3 arrested

    Angul: A team of Special Task Force (STF) has seized more than 161 kg of Ganja and other incriminating materials in Odish’s Angul district. The cops have also arrested three in this connection.

    The three accused were identified as Sarmit Urma of Chandrapur village, Rohit Behera of Madhapur village and Sunil Deep of Routpada. The cannabis was beiing seized from Chandrapur village under Athamalik police limits of the district. Reportedly, Ganja more than 161 kg and other incriminating materials were recovered & seized from their possession. Further search related to the case are underway.

    A case has been registered on the report of STF at Athamalik Police Station for necessary legal action.

    Special drive against narcotic drugs is continuing. Since 2020, STF has seized more than 69 Kg of Brown Sugar, 202 Gram Cocaine and more than 115 quintals of Ganja, Opium 750 gram and arrested more than 172 drug dealers.

    Bhubaneswar: Many places in Odisha recorded temperatures of over 40°C by 2:30 pm on Monday said the latest report of the local MeT office.

    Most parts of Odisha are facing a heatwave-like situation. On Monday Bhubaneswar recorded 43.8°C at 2:30 pm. The highest temperature however was recorded at 45.3°C in Sambalpur. Jharsuguda recorded temperatures at 42.4°C.

    People have been advised to refrain from stepping outside the house from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. They have been asked too take necessary precautions in case going out of home within the time is unavoidable.

    As per the forecast of the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, India Meteorological Department, the day time temperature is likely to rise further by 2 – 3°C during next two days.

    Consequently day temperature likely to be 40°C or above at a few places over a few districts during the next 4-5 days. Hot and discomfort weather likely during this period.

    Scorching heat wave engulfs Odisha, Sambalpur records 46.1 Celsius

    Bhubaneswar: Scorching heat wave has engulfed Odisha while the whole State is sizzling as mercury soars. Today, Sambalpur recorded the highest maximum day temperature with 46.1 degree Celsius.

    When it comes to the capital city, Bhubaneswar recorded 44.3 Degree Celsius. It was informed by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

    Besides, on Monday Hirakud sizzled with 45.6°C, Sonepur recorded 45°C while Bargarh recorded 44.9°C. Apart from that Bolangir, Boudh, Titlagarh, Nayagarh and Talcher recorded 44°C.

    While the whole of Odisha sizzled today as per a recent report thunderstorm lightning gusty wind speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph continuing over Balasore, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak likely to affect Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur, the regional Meteorological Centre said in a tweet.

    Today, 10 locations across the State recorded max day temperature above 44 degree Celsius, while 31 stations recorded temperature above 40 degree C.
