Odisha: Naga baba gang attested by Commissionerate police

Bhubaneswar: Five of the naga baba gang have been arrested by the Commissionerate police today, said reliable reports on Monday.

According to reports, as many as three persons pretending to be Naga Babas entered a house for puja in Nandankanan area of Bhubaneswar and fled with gold ornaments on Sunday.

The disguised Naga Babas reportedly entered the house of one Rakesh Padhihary of Raghunathpur, on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar, and conducted some pujas. However, they allegedly looted gold ornaments to the tune of Rs 2 Lakh.

While narrating the incident before the media persons, Rakesh said, “I met the Naga Babas when I had gone to the Gundicha Temple for darshan of Lord Jagannath. They introduced themselves and asked me to arrange some food for them. Later, they visited my house.”

“Three of them came to my house at around 8 AM today. In order to win our hearts, they conducted some puja in the house. One of them placed a Rudraksha in the hands of my son, wife and me and asked to close the eye and walk to some distance. Surprisingly, the Rudraksha had tuned to a Shiva Linga by the time when we were asked to open our eyes,” Rakesh added.

He further said, “They demanded Rs 1 lakh from me saying that they would eradicate all the problems of our family. They assured us by saying that their prayers would help my son to get a job or do a business. Sometime after our discussion, one of them (the Naga Babas) went to the hand washing basin for spitting. He picked the gold chains of my son and wife which they had kept on the table, but we realized it only after they left the house.”

Meanwhile, Rakesh has filed a case against the Naga Babas, who are said to be the residents of Uttar Pradesh, at Nandankanan Police Station. Based on his complaint cops have started a search operation to trace the fake sadhus, who had reached the house in a Bolero vehicle which was bearing the registration number UP 96 A 0969.

Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir is a part of India: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, 26 June (IANS) “People living in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir  will raise a demand to go with India. Pakistan does not have a locus standi there as it has illegally occupied the area. The Indian Parliament has unanimously passed at least three resolutions which state that PoK is a part of India,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said this on Monday.

National security is the Government’s top-most priority and it is committed to protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country. This was stated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh while addressing a National Security Conclave on June 26.

Rajnath Singh added that the network of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has substantially weakened in the last few years as strict and consistent action is being taken. “Terror funding has been curbed. Supply of arms and drugs to terrorists has been stopped. Along with elimination of terrorists, work is being done to dismantle the network of under ground workers,” he said.

On the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, he stated that the decision has connected the people of the Union Territory with the country’s mainstream and helped them to usher in a new era of peace and progress.

He asserted that India has witnessed a paradigm shift in its security scenario in the last nine years. He pointed out that India’s image in 2013-14 was that of a weak nation which allowed its adversaries to create problems, but today the country has the ability to overcome every threat.

Rajnath Singh stated that no stone is being left unturned to equip the military with latest weaponry and modern technology, assuring the nation that the armed forces are fully capable of protecting the borders and the seas. “Our goal is to bring our armed forces in the frontline of modern militaries,” he said.

“For a long time, Pakistan has tried to destabilise peace and harmony in the country through cross-border terrorism. However, when we came to power, we launched effective action against terrorism. We showed the world the meaning of ‘zero tolerance against terrorism’. The bold and first-of-its-kind moves to eliminate terrorists following the Uri and Pulwama incidents are proof of India’s ‘zero tolerance against terrorism’ policy and the unmatched valour of the armed forces. Today, most of the countries are united against terrorism. The joint statement issued after the Prime Minister’s meeting with US President Joe Biden is an indication of how India has changed the mindset of the world on the issue of terrorism,” the Defence Minister said.

Monsoon Arrives In Delhi 2 Days Early, Brings Mercury Down To 29 Degrees Celsius

The monsoon arrived in the national capital on Sunday, two days before its scheduled onset, bringing respite to Delhiites from scorching heat, even as a woman died due to electrocution amid rainfall.

The rains which started early morning brought the maximum temperature down to 29 degrees Celsius, eight notches below normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi’s primary weather station, logged 48.3 mm rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday, it said.

The rainfall also led to waterlogging and traffic congestion in some parts of the city. On Sunday, the southwest monsoon covered both Delhi and Mumbai together for the first time since June 21, 1961, the IMD said. While it hit the national capital two days before schedule, its entry into the financial capital is two weeks late, the Met office said.

“It is the first time since June 21, 1961, that the monsoon arrived in Delhi and Mumbai at the same time,” said DS Pai, a senior scientist at the IMD.

Meanwhile, the Safdarjung Observatory recorded 2.4 mm rainfall, Palam 7.1 mm, Lodhi Road 1.7 mm, Ridge 7.4 mm and Ayanagar recorded 4 mm rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sunday.

The Met office termed the monsoon activity over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi as “vigorous”.

In a related incident, a 34-year-old woman died of electrocution after accidentally coming in contact with a live wire at the New Delhi railway station complex on Sunday morning amid rainfall which also led to waterlogging there.

According to traffic police, due to rain, a branch of a tree fell on the road in Plaza Market, Vasundhra Enclave leading to obstruction in traffic movement for a brief period.

According to data shared by the central control room of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, due to the monsoon, several trees were uprooted in Janakpuri, Swaroop Nagar and Trilokpuri, while waterlogging was reported from Timarpur in Civil Lines, Janakpuri, Firni Road, Friends Colony, and Railway Colony.

Waterlogging was also witnessed in parts of Karol Bagh, Najafgarh, Sainik Farm and Dwarka, according to the data.

Meanwhile, a balcony shared by two adjacent shops in southwest Delhi’s R K Puram area also collapsed. However, no one was injured in the incident as the shops were closed, a police officer said.

On Sunday, the minimum temperature settled at 23.1 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal, the IMD said.

The relative humidity oscillated between 73 per cent and 100 per cent, it said.

For Monday, the IMD has predicted generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers and said the maximum and minimum temperatures would hover around 30 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively. On Saturday, the city recorded maximum and minimum temperatures at 37.2 and 30.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
