    Girl accused of rape, CMC sealed the hotel

    Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has sealed the hotel in which allegedly a staff had raped a girl on April 21, 2023.

    Earlier on April 22, 2023 the manager of the hotel was arrested for allegedly raping a girl in the hotel in Madhupatna area of Cuttack. The incident came to light after the girl filed a complaint with Madhupatna police station.

    As per reports, the girl is from outside Odisha and was raped in one of the hotel rooms. The girl along with some friends had come to celebrate birthday party in the hotel and had booked two rooms.

    When she was alone in the room, the hotel manager allegedly raped her.

    After knowing about the matter, the victim’s relatives lodged a complaint at the Madhupatna police Station. After getting the complaint Madhupatna Police swung into action to find out involvement of other persons in this case.

    CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to visit New Delhi tomorrow (April 27) at 8:30 pm in an Air India passenger flight from Chennai, to discuss activities regarding Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi with President Droupadi Murmu.

    Stalin would also discuss the NEET exemption and that the Governor should have a specific time frame for taking decisions on the Bills passed in the Assembly.

    During the meeting, Stalin would invite Murmu inaugurate new Multi-speciality hospital worth Rs 230 crores in Guindy. The Chief Minister is expected to return to Chennai by night flight on Friday.

    New Delhi: In a shocking incident on late Tuesday, a rickshaw puller was badlu injured after being dragged for around 200 meters by a car driven recklessly on Firoz Shah Road in the New Delhi area, police said.

    At the location of the incident, there were slippers that possibly belonged to the victim and blood splattered across the road.

    Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Pranav Tayal said that the injured had been taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital for treatment, where he is said to be out of danger and is fit to give a statement.

    The victim has been identified as Manoj (25), who works in housekeeping and also plies a rickshaw.

    The driver was apprehended from the spot.

    According to the police, the medical examination of the accused driver, identified as Farman, 25, a resident of Murad Nagar near Ghaziabad, will ascertain whether he was under the influence of alcohol or not.

    The official said that the car hit the cycle rickshaw on Firoz Shah road and subsequently dragged Manoj for some distance.

    Tayal said that the crime team had arrived at the spot and legal action is being taken.

    The police have seized the Maruti Swift car involved in the accident, and it had also sustained damage to its front side.

    This event has sparked memories of the dreadful Kanjhawala accident that occurred on January 1. During that incident, a 20-year-old woman was struck by a car, and died an agonising death as her body was dragged under the vehicle for nearly 90 minutes, covering approximately 10-12 km before being discovered naked and mutilated on the road.

    The incidents of mobile snatching and theft are increasing in Surat city. Be it passers-by or bike riders, the accused snatch mobile phones and run away. Kapodra police was successful in arresting some such accused. The surveillance staff of Kapodra police received information that the accused had stolen mobile phones, on the basis of which five accused, including a minor, were arrested from Kamalpark Society in Varachha area.

    During interrogation of the accused, 16 stolen mobile phones have been recovered from them. The accused were targeting passers-by and snatching mobile phones. Along with burglary, chain snatching was also done. These arrested accused have criminal antecedents and had committed crimes at a young age. One of the accused is a minor, who also has a criminal history.
    He turned to crime at an early age
    Incidents of mobile snatching are happening continuously and youth are taking the path of crime and stealing at a young age. Kapodra police has arrested five such accused. The accused used to commit thefts in Varachha, Puna, Udhna and Sarthana areas. At present, the police have arrested all the accused after recovering 16 stolen mobile phones, a bike and goods worth more than 1.54 lakh from the accused.

    Telangana: GHMC to renovate Sanath Nagar cremation ground at a cost of Rs 10 crore

    Hyderabad: The crematorium near the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Sanath Nagar constituency is all set to be revamped from scratch by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

    Being planned to have more features and facilities than the existing Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills, the GHMC will develop the Sanath Nagar crematorium with a cost of Rs 10 crore.

    The facilities that will come up in the crematorium include funeral platforms, a building equipped with seating arrangements, amenities like drinking water and wash areas, storage facilities for ashes, prayer hall, sufficient parking, lockers, apart from pathways, plantation and landscaping.

    “We will deploy security guards and install CCTV cameras as a part of security measures. We are also planning to put in place a mechanism where the last rites are streamed online for the family members who are unable to attend the funeral,” Animal Husbandry Minister, T Srinivas Yadav, who visited the crematorium on Monday, said.

    “This graveyard is spread on a land parcel measuring around 7.5 acres and it will be developed better than Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam,” he said. The facility will be available for residents from Sanath Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Kukatpally and Khairatabad.

    Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi, GHMC Commissioner, DS Lokesh Kumar, GHMC Zonal Commissioner of Khairatabad Zone Ravi Kiran and others were present.

    Two persons involved in cheating case and absconding for 30 years arrested

    Hyderabad: Two persons who were involved in a cheating case and absconding since last three decades were arrested by the Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday.

    The arrested persons Sherley Tommy (70) and C. I Joy (67) along with others started Travencore Finance Leasing Company and lured people into investing money assuring of high interest. After collecting large amounts from the public all the ten partners of the company including Tommy and Joy misappropriated the amount and duped the investors, said Additional DGP, (CID) Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat.

    On a complaint a case was registered by the Crime Investigation Department in the year 1987 and since the two persons were absconding. On specific information, a team of CID including Inspector J Lingaswamy, sub inspector D Ramesh and other staff caught them in Ernakulam, Kerala. They were brought to the city and produced before the court.

    Hyderabad: As a part of immediate measures to contain the flow of sewage into the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, the Telangana government has decided to establish four Sewage Treatment Plans (STPs) and an administrative sanction of Rs 82.23 crore has been accorded.

    While two STPs of 9 million of litre per day (MLD ) capacity will come up at the Himayat Sagar, two more STPs of 11 MLD capacity will come up at the Osman Sagar.

    The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) will install STPs to prevent pollution of water in the twin reservoirs which is presently happening unabated from nearby villages of Osman Sagar. The installation of these four plants is a part of the comprehensive plan for ‘Sewerage Treatment and Diversion’ for the entire catchment area of the twin reservoirs which is presently under preparation.

    In addition to the installation of these STPs, a series of measures will be incorporated by the State government to safeguard the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar.

    According to Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department, installation of additional STPs at various locations will be taken up and diversion channels will be constructed for carrying the treated water to ensure it does not flow into the twin reservoirs.

    Works to maintain the quality of groundwater will be taken up and a system will be in place for minimisation of pollution through agricultural surface runoff into these two reservoirs. Agricultural runoff is the surface runoff from farmland outflow, which comes from the farmland’s surplus water.

    The HMWS&SB has already engaged the services of NCPE Infrastructure India (P) Limited to prepare a comprehensive plan for the complete abatement of sewage pollution twin reservoirs. The plan is being prepared keeping in view the projected population in and around the twin reservoirs for the next 30 years.

    Earlier, the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar accounted for 27.59 percent of the installed capacity of drinking water and presently the drawals dependability of these reservoirs is less than 1.25 percent and they are no longer a source of drinking water.

    Kendrapara: India Post Department on Monday reportedly sacked as many as three branch post masters in Kendrapara district for furnishing fake educational certificates to get jobs.

    The three post masters who have been sacked have been identified as Prassana Kumar Sethi, Soumya Ranjan Sethi and Mamashree Bharati, said sources adding that all of them are the residents of Bhadrak district.

    Informing about the development, Postal Superintendent of Kendrapara division, Debaraj Sethi, said that during the verification of certificates, it was found out that the trio had furnished fake educational certificates to get jobs which is why they have been terminated from their services.

    It is to be noted here that one Anita Jena of Bhadrak district had applied for the post of a Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) in Kendrapara division. She had submitted a matriculation certificate which was issued in the name of Adarsh Arya SS High School at Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh.

    However, the concerned officials of the Post Department during the verification of certificates found out that Jena’s matriculation certificate was fake. Following this, the department verified the certificates of others and subsequently Prassana Kumar Sethi, Soumya Ranjan Sethi and Mamashree Bharati were caught.

    Sources said that one of the trio was working for the last two years and the two accused had joined duties six months ago.

    It is to be noted here that such fake certificate case had come to the fore in Balangir district last month. More than 19 persons were arrested for their involvement in the fake certificate racket. Taking a serious note of the case, the Crime Branch of Odisha Police took over the case.

    The above noted case has been registered on the basis of a written report submitted by Dy. S.P, A.K. Mishra of EOW, Bhubaneswar, who in course of his investigation into EOW PS
    Case No.07 of 2021 came to know about the commission of another similar fraud by MD of M/s
    Annapurna Agro International Pvt. Ltd. in conspiracy with its dealers in misappropriating the Govt. subsidy meant for the farmers/beneficiaries on purchase of agro equipment amounting to Rs.12 Crores approximately.

    The fraud has been committed by manufacturing and using forged documents/email ID, UTR etc. The arrested accused Chautura Deep is the proprietor of M/s KBK Deep Agro Sales, registered dealer of M/s Annapurna Agro International Pvt. Ltd., Balasore, which is a manufacturing unit of agro equipment.

    The firm is registered under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Scheme, both as manufacturer and dealer of Agro implements like post harvest machines, power driven equipment and rotavator etc.

    The company has appointed 115 no. of dealers throughout Odisha, and in active connivance with the dealers including the present accused Chautura Deep, proprietor of M/s KBK Deep Agro Sales, during the FY 2016-17 to 2019-20, has uploaded a series of false/ fake invoices /data/ information /UTR pertaining to supply/sale of approx.

    1766 agro equipment to equal number of farmers/ beneficiaries and managed to avail subsidy amount to the tune of Crores under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Scheme and the amount was misappropriated by the manufacturing farm and its dealers.

    Pursuant to their conspiracy, the accused manufacturer-cum-dealer M/s Annapurna Agro International Pvt. Ltd. and dealer Chautura Deep, Prop: M/s KBK Deep Agro Sales in order to
    perpetrate the fraud have uploaded fake invoices, photo of the implements with beneficiaries, UTR Nos. etc. in the DBT portal meant for Govt. subsidy for farm implements, and thereby grabbed the subsidy amount meant for the beneficiaries/farmers. The present accused has fraudulently shown to have sold/supplied 487 Nos. of agro equipment involving the subsidy amount Rs.3.54 Crores approx. which has been misappropriated by the MD of the manufacturing firm and the arrested accused dealer.

    For the purpose, the accused has uploaded fake/false UTRs in the DBT portal to get the subsidy amount released. It has been ascertained that before the subsidy amount was being credited to the account of beneficiary/ farmer, the accused persons, in some cases, have collected the advance cheque from the beneficiaries under allurement in order to withdraw the total subsidy amount.

    They used to take away major subsidy amount from the beneficiaries fraudulently by paying some meagre amount to such farmers/beneficiaries. Finding the irregularities, the Dept. of Agriculture has blocked the manufacturing accused company M/s Annapurna Agro International Pvt. Ltd. in its DBT portal.

    Earlier in this case, Pradeep Kumar Acharya, MD of M/s Annapurna Agro International Pvt. Ltd. and his two dealers namely Prabha Ranjan Dash and Shaik Fayaz were arrested and forwarded in this case. The investigation of the case is on.
