  • Bank deposits of the people of Gujarat increased by 93841 crores in one year

Bank deposits of the people of Gujarat increased by 93841 crores in one year

Ahmedabad (Karnavati), 10 April (Hindustan Times). After having a serious impact on the country’s economic system during the Corona epidemic, now with its recovery, good news has started coming for the economic world. Especially in the state of Gujarat, there is news of the strength of the economy and leaving the old situation behind. According to the data received from all the banks of Gujarat, in the last one year, where the credit ratio of the state has increased, there has also been a jump in bank deposits.

Economic strength due to less expenditure, more inward

In December 2021, a total of Rs 9,30423 crore was deposited in the banks of Gujarat. Whereas last year in December-2022, this amount increased to Rs 10 lakh, 24 thousand, 264 crore. That is, in one year, the people of Gujarat deposited Rs 93841 crore more in various banks of the state. This additional amount is about 10 per cent.

This figure shows that the income of the people of Gujarat was more than the expenditure during this period, due to which the people deposited their savings. It is also believed to be a sign of strengthening the economic condition of the state. In December 2021, Gujarat’s banks gave loans (advances) worth Rs 722922 crore to the people of the state for various reasons including business-employment, schemes. Whereas in December 2022, these banks gave loans worth Rs 814532 crore to the people of Gujarat. This means that during one year the people of Gujarat got an additional loan of Rs 91590 crore. Which is about 13 percent.

    More loans taken for business-employment

Similarly, during one year from December 2021 to December 2022, on one hand, the people of Gujarat deposited Rs 1024264 crore in banks, while on the other hand, they also took a loan of Rs 814532 crore for business-employment and other reasons. That is, in front of an increase of about 10 percent in deposits, an increase of 12.67 percent in credit (loan advances) was recorded. It is clear from this that in December 2021, the credit deposit ratio of the banks of Gujarat was 77.70 percent. At the same time, in December 2022, this bank credit ratio became 79.52 percent. This means that during this period, 79.52 per cent credit (loan advance) was also taken against the bank deposits made by the people of Gujarat for various reasons.

This ratio is not the same in all the 33 districts of Gujarat. The credit deposit ratio is below 40 per cent in districts like Dang, Navsari, Anand and Porbandar in the state and this is also a matter of concern for the government. In these four districts, where bank savings are less, people have also taken less loans for business and employment.

  • Report – Leaked Pentagon documents show Mossad encouraged employees to join anti-Netanyahu protests

Report – Leaked Pentagon documents show Mossad encouraged employees to join anti-Netanyahu protests

Israel’s spy agency Mossad encouraged its staff and the general public to take part in massive protests against a judicial reform plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, leaked papers from the Pentagon have reportedly revealed, The Palestine Chronicle reports.

The memo did not contain the names of the Mossad leaders who allegedly made those calls, or any other details, according to the report.

On Sunday, Netanyahu’s office released a statement on behalf of Mossad, rejecting the reports and slamming the assessment as “mendacious and without any foundation whatsoever,” the report noted.

In its article the New York Times claimed, citing an unnamed defense official, that Mossad chief David Barnea did allow some of the agency’s junior staff to participate in protests, but only in an unofficial capacity, the report said.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been taking to the streets across Israel since January, after Netanyahu proposed legal changes that would allow parliament to override Supreme Court rulings by a simple majority, grant the government more power in appointing judges, and limit the ability of the top court to review legislation it deems “unreasonable.”

In late March, The Palestine Chronicle recalled, Netanyahu also fired defense minister Yoav Gallant for publicly challenging the overhaul. Gallant warned that the rift it caused in society was affecting the Israel military, and becoming “clear and immediate and tangible danger to the security of the state.”

A few days later, Netanyahu gave in to the pressure and suspended the reform, saying that a few weeks would be required to negotiate changes with the opposition, the report added.

Fake teachers: BEOs, DEOs asked to submit reports in a day or two

The Directorate of Elementary Education in Odisha has directed the block education officers (BEOs) and the district education officers (DEOs) to submit reports on the fake teachers within two days.

“The BEOs and the DEOs will submit their reports in a day or two. Action will be taken against the fake teachers on the basis of the reports,” Elementary Education Director Jyoti Ranjan Mishra said.

Mishra said a total of 300 teachers who submitted fake caste certificates, birth certificates and educational qualification certificates have been identified and FIRs against them have also been registered.

Meanwhile, an SOP has been issued to nab the fake teachers. There are fake teachers in Bolangir district as well as other districts. When it comes to out-of-State certificates, comparatively more time is required, he said.

Notably, a few days ago, School and Mass Education Department Minister Samir Dash had said that the State education department didn’t need to go to other States to probe fake certificate allegations.

Dash had said so in the backdrop of a five-member team of the Crime Branch preparing to go to other States to probe into Bolangir fake certificate racket.

  • Union Minister Bisheshwar Tudu said – officers appointed through UPSC are ‘dacoits’

Union Minister Bisheshwar Tudu said – officers appointed through UPSC are ‘dacoits’

Senior BJP leader and central minister Bisheswar Tudu has courted controversy by claiming that many of the officers appointed through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) are “dacoits”.

He alleged that while a “chicken thief” can be punished, an official who runs a mineral mafia cannot be touched as the system protects him.

The union minister of state for tribal affairs and jalshakti made the remarks while addressing a gathering as chief guest at the golden jubilee function of a government school at Baliapal in Balasore district.

He was heard making the controversial statement in a viral video. PTI could not verify the authenticity of the video clip.

“I had an idea that those who are appointed through UPSC … they are the most knowledgeable persons and are always in high positions. But now, I feel that most of those who have qualified from there perhaps are dacoits. I do not say 100 per cent, but many of them are dacoits,” Tudu asserted.

The UPSC is the country’s premier central recruitment commission, which functions as an independent body and appoints top government officers.

The minister, who is an MP of Odisha, said the UPSC office is just behind his residence in Delhi, and initially he had high regard for it but that has changed now.

During his speech, Tudu also asked: “Why is our society engulfed in corruption and injustice if such educated people are there?”.

“It is because of lack of morality in our education system. Lack of spiritual education and thoughts among us.”.

The minister had also stoked controversy in 2021 by accusing state government officials of misbehaving with him in his constituency in Mayurbhanj.

Sholay’s ‘Veeru’ becomes a young man in love to convince his girlfriend

Ayouth seemingly inspired by veteran actor and yesteryear superstar Dharmendra’s character Veeru from Hindi blockbuster Sholay climbed atop a water tank to convince his girlfriend not to part ways.

The high drama was witnessed at Kuthurla village under Deogaon tehsil in Bolangir district on Monday.

Pintu Harapal, a resident of Kuthurla village, was in love with a girl of Bolangir town. On Monday, they had a squabble over some reasons and the girl stopped answering to his phone calls.

At this, a disturbed Pintu climbed atop a water tank. From there, he made a video call to his girlfriend, asking her to receive his call or else he would end his life by jumping off the water tank.

On being informed, fire personnel reached the spot and launched an operation to bring Pintu down. By then, hundreds of villagers had gathered at the scene, watching the entire drama with their jaws dropped. As the rescuers started climbing the tower, Pintu consumed some pills he had in his pocket. The people gathered below grew more anxious.

After bringing him down, the fire personnel with the help of some villagers immediately rushed Pintu to the Deogaon government hospital.

  • Odisha records season’s first 40-plus temperature as heatwave singes state

Odisha records season’s first 40-plus temperature as heatwave singes state

Ablistering heatwave swept through Odisha on Monday threatening to throw the normal life out of gear and raising concerns among health experts.

The day temperature crossed 40 degree Celsius mark for the first time this season with poll-bound Jharsuguda district recording highest 40.4 degree Celsius.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bhubaneswar centre, Baripada in Mayurbhanj district also recorded 40 degree Celsius as the maximum temperature.

A resident of Baripada town said, “Heat was too much today. Even our sweat was evaporating quickly leaving salt on the skin. I think this is the highest heat we have encountered this year.”

Blame it on the inflow of dry air or the climate change, the fact is Odisha is going to singe under the sultry sun for at least six or more days. Bhubaneswar weather office has alerted that the heat conditions will continue in Odisha till April 16.

“The day temperature will see a rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next few days. The temperature in coastal Odisha too will see a rise and is likely to touch 40 degree soon,” said IMD scientist Umashankar Das.

There are multiple reasons of this heat. As per weather scientist, Sharat Sahu, “The wind has slowed down and the lower level wind is blowing from west and North-west bringing heat with it. The water vapour flow to Odisha has also stopped from both Bay of Bengal and the Arabian sea making the temperature in Odisha to rise suddenly.”

Capital city Bhubaneswar on the other hand recorded 39 degrees by 2:30 pm on Monday. Similarly, Chandbali recorded 39 degree, followed by 37.6 degree in Hirakud, 36.4 degree in Balasore and 36.2 degree Celsius in Keonjhar.

Even though the morning classes have begun from today in many schools, guardians say that if such temperature persists it will be tough for the kids to return home by 11:30 am under the scorching heat conditions.

5 injured after heavy tree uprooted near Maharashtra temple, 7 dead

Akola, Maharashtra: At least seven people were killed and five were injured after a massive tree fell on a tin shed in Maharashtra’s Akola on Sunday.
The incident took place during a religious ceremony in front of a temple around 7 pm when heavy rainfall and strong winds caused an old Neem tree to fall on a tin shed under which scores of devotees were taking shelter. According to the police, 35 to 40 people were buried under the shed while seven lost their lives.

Five others were admitted to Akola Medical College where their treatment is underway.

As soon as the authorities received information about the incident, emergency services were pressed into action for rescue work while JCB machines were brought in to lift the tree trunk and the collapsed shed.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condoled the deaths and announced that the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government will provide financial assistance to the families of those killed.

  • Nandini vs Amul row heats up in Karnataka, poll setback worries BJP

Nandini vs Amul row heats up in Karnataka, poll setback worries BJP

With Assembly elections due within a month, the political row over the entry of Amul, the Gujarat state milk cooperative brand, in the Karnataka market has political implications for the ruling BJP as it stands to alienate a crucial electoral vote bank. The Opposition has alleged Amul’s entry, backed by the BJP, would pose a threat to the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) brand “Nandini” that is closely tied to the identity of Kannadigas.

As the row intensified on Sunday, following Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s allegation that the Basavaraj Bommai-led government for destroying the “state’s pride”, the state government got into damage-control mode. Minister for Cooperatives ST Somashekar said there was no proposal to merge KMF and Amul and hit out at the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) for turning the entry of Amul “into a political issue ahead of elections”.

“The production of milk during summer is relatively less and it is usual. There are 15 milk unions in Karnataka and all are making profits. Amul is selling milk online for Rs 57 per litre but Nandini milk costs only Rs 39 per litre. We send Nandini products to other states, including Tamil Nadu. We want to develop Nandini products like how Gujarat did it for Amul,” he said.

State Higher Education Minister C N Ashwath Narayan also dismissed rumours about KMF’s merger with Amul or its dissolution, saying, “KMF’s turnover is around Rs 20,000 crore to Rs 22,000 crore and without the cooperative department any merger is impossible.”

The seeds of the row were laid in December when Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at a rally in Mandya, “Together, Amul and Nandini will help set up primary dairies in every village of Karnataka within three years.” It gathered pace on Wednesday after Amul announced last week it would begin delivering milk and curd in Bengaluru.

To date, no government in the state has tried to dictate terms to the KMF, given its massive network that comprises 22,000 villages, 24 lakh milk producers, and 14,000 cooperative societies that procure approximately 84 lakh kg of milk every day. A majority of milk producers are from old Mysuru regions such as Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara and Kolar, and the central Karnataka district of Davangere, making them an important electoral constituency since they are spread across 120-130 Assembly seats.

While old Mysuru is a Vokkaliga belt where the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Congress hold sway, central Karnataka is part of the Lingayat belt. The Lingayats, who are electorally dominant, are the BJP’s biggest support base in the state. This explains why the ruling party has been actively trying to counter the Opposition on the issue since any move that may cause consternation among the ruling party’s support base and feed into fears of the supporters of the Opposition parties is likely going to backfire just weeks ahead of polls.

Underlining the importance of the Nandini brand in popular culture in Karnataka is that over the decades the KMF has had popular actors such as Dr Rajkumar, Upendra, and Puneeth Rajkumar as brand ambassadors. The first dairy that went on to become KMF came into existence in 1955 in Kodagu district and by 1984 the popularity of the federation ensured that there were 14 district milk unions.

Meanwhile, signalling a shift from his party’s stance on the matter, Congress’s Thiruvananthapuram MP Sashi Tharoor on Sunday said in Bengaluru, “We all want to protect the Nandini brand. Nandini should be allowed to export to other states too. If we are too protectionist, we won’t be helping our national economy. But, at the same time, I understand the concerns of those who are working in Karnataka and contributing to the success of the Nandini brand. We have to take their needs to account as well.”
