    Shimlal: As per his promise made in the budget speech, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has released the first installment of the new financial year for the MLA’s Area Development Fund. However, on Thursday, the last day of the budget session, he said in the Vidhan Sabha that due to some financial problems, last year’s installment of the MLA fund is being stopped. It will not be available now. The present state government has released the first installment of more than Rs 82 crore to speed up the developmental works in the state. In this, Rs 34.29 crore has been allocated under MLA Local Area Development Fund, Rs 12.37 crore under Jan Sahyog Program in Development, Rs 2.20 crore under Mukhya Mantri Gram Path Yojana and Rs 26.19 crore under regional decentralized scheme for 10 districts of the state.

    In addition, the tribal areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Pangi and Bharmour have been provided an additional Rs 5.62 crore under the MLA Development Fund and an additional Rs 2.07 crore under the Jan Sahyog Program in Development. The state government releases funds for development activities under these schemes in four quarters, which are spent in consultation with the local MLA of the assembly constituency.

    Chief Minister Sukhwinder Vikhu has announced to increase the MLA Local Area Development Fund to Rs 2.10 crore in the budget of the year 2023-24 and accordingly the first installment has been released. The discretionary fund of MLAs has also been increased in the budget to 13 lakhs and based on the suggestions received from the MLAs, the state government will issue new guidelines for MLA priority schemes.

    The villagers rushed the unconscious children to government hospital at Tihidi. Later, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Bhadrak.

    The doctors of the DHH said the children were still unconscious and under observation. If their condition does not improve, they would be referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, they added.

    Bhubaneswar: One month ahead of the byelection to Jharsuguda Assembly constituency in Odisha, the state government has effected a change in the district collector.

    A notification, issued by the General Administration and Public Grievances department on Thursday, stated that Subarnapur district collector Aboli Sunil Naravane has been appointed as Jharsuguda collector.

    “In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 20 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 (Act II of 1974), the state government hereby appoints Aboli Sunil Naravane as the District Magistrate of Jharsuguda,” the notification stated.

    Naravane, a 2015 batch IAS officer, will replace present Jharsuguda collector Saroj Samal.

    It may be noted that the byelection to Jharsuguda Assembly seat will be held on May 10. The bypoll was necessitated following the murder of its BJD MLA and Health minister Naba Kishore Das on January 29.

    During the investigation, CCTV footage from Karol Bagh to Rajiv Chowk metro station was thoroughly examined, said Jitendra Mani, Deputy Commissioner of Metro Police. CCTV footage installed inside the train was also scanned. On analysis, the movements of three female passengers were found suspicious.

    The team immediately swung into action and the three were nabbed within 24 hours, he said.

    During interrogation, the accused women accepted their crime. A stolen purse was also recovered from his house which had gold chain, ring and gold studs and key of the victim’s house.

    The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that this gang used to wash their hands in metro trains, crowded buses and trains.
