Police have succeeded in recovering 209 packets of ganja and 28 strips of medicines used for intoxication from the possession of history-sheeter crook Umashankar Srivastava, who has been in the business of district badar, ganja and drugs for one year in Kanker district. The matter belongs to the Kotwali police station area. According to the information received, the district magistrate had banished history-sheeter crook Umashankar Srivastava from district Kanker and adjoining areas for one year on October 28, 2022. Despite this, he was selling drugs and ganja in front of his house in Kanker. Police sent the accused to jail.

    As soon as the police came to know about this, the police laid siege and nabbed the miscreant. Seized 209 packets of ganja and 28 strips of non-narcotic drugs from him. After this, the police arrested the accused Umashankar Srivastava (58 years), father Durga Prasad Srivastava and sent them to jail on judicial remand. Station in-charge Sharad Dubey said that footage of the cameras installed near the house of the arrested accused are being scrutinized. The persons taking Ganja and drugs are being identified. At the same time, action will also be taken against the family members of the accused who helped him in selling ganja.

    Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu held a meeting with senior officers of police, home and law departments on late Wednesday evening to tackle the drug menace in the state. During the meeting, the CM said that necessary amendments will be made in the law to take strict action against the drug peddlers and confiscation of the property of the culprits. He said that in order to secure the future of the youth, a special task force would also be constituted to break the drug supply chain and take strict action against the mafia.

    He said that an advisory board would be constituted under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act to check the menace of drugs and to monitor drug trade. The Chief Minister said that a modern de-addiction center and rehabilitation center would be set up in the state to help drug addicts and bring them back into the mainstream of society. Through these centers they will be made responsible citizens. He said that these centers would be equipped with modern facilities with skilled support staff.

    He said that the menace of drugs is a big challenge before the society and it is the need of the hour to nab the culprits and register cases against them on speedy basis under the law. He said that efforts would be made to develop an effective mechanism with the cooperation of the Central Government to stop drug trafficking and sharing of intelligence and necessary amendments in the Central Law would also be urged.

    Expressing serious concern over the consumption of drugs, the Chief Minister said that people should be made aware about their ill-effects and there was a need to coordinate with the neighboring states to deal with this problem in the border areas. He also directed the officers to take appropriate measures to curb this menace and save the young generation from drug mafia.

The accused attacked the father with a liquor bottle, due to which he was badly injured and died shortly after. The young man also made a fatal attack on his grandmother. Due to this she is injured. On the complaint of the grandmother, the police reached the spot and arrested the accused.

    According to the police, 22-year-old Navpreet, who lives in Vikas Nagar, Shimla, killed his 44-year-old father Vijay. The deceased Vijay was earlier posted in the government department and had taken retirement. The wife of the deceased had left the house long back. It is being told that both father and son were drug addicts. On Monday, there was a dispute between father and son over some issue and it turned into a murder case. Asha Bhatia, the mother of the deceased Vijay, has said in her complaint that she lives in Kaithu and came to Vikasnagar to meet her son. When she entered the room, she saw that her son Vijay was lying on the bed and the room was covered in blood. According to the complainant, he asked his grandson Navpreet who was present in the room about this, then he attacked him with a cooker. After this, Asha Bhatia informed the police about the incident.

    Confirming this, SP Shimla Shimla Sanjeev Gandhi told on Tuesday morning that the body has been taken into custody and sent for postmortem. A case of murder has been registered in this matter. Action is being implemented by registering a case against the accused Navpreet under sections 302 and 323 of the IPC. Preliminary investigation has revealed that both father and son were drug addicts. Various aspects of this incident are being thoroughly investigated.
