    Excise case: Delhi court reserves order on CBI’s supplementary charge sheet against Sisodia

    New Delhi (IANS) | A Delhi court on Friday reserved its order on the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) supplementary charge sheet against former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and three others in the excise policy case. Besides Sisodia, the charge sheet also names Arjun Pandey, Buchi Babu Gorantla and Amandeep Dhal.

    Special Judge M.K. Nagpal listed it for pronouncement of order on May 27.

    The CBI, in its supplementary charge sheet, has alleged that Sisodia had procured some emails of his own accord through Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) chairman Zakir Khan to manipulate the process of seeking comments/suggestions regarding the liquor policy.

    The probe agency has claimed that Sisodia was not happy with the recommendations of the expert committee report submitted by former Excise Commissioner Ravi Dhawan on October 13, 2020 and has asked new Excise Commissioner Rahul Singh to initiate the Excise Department to invite comments from the general public and stakeholders. Instructed to put the report on the portal.

    The CBI has alleged that Sisodia destroyed the draft cabinet note prepared by the Excise Department which was placed before the Council of Ministers in its meeting held on January 28, 2021.

    In the draft cabinet note, former Chief Justices of India Ranjan Gogoi and K.G. Besides Balakrishnan, legal opinion of former Attorney General and senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi and others was also incorporated.

    Excise Case: Delhi Court extends Sisodia’s judicial custody till June 2

    NEW DELHI: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday extended former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody till June 2 in the CBI case on excise policy.

    Consideration of the charge sheet pending before the court.

    Sisodia was arrested by CBI and ED in an ongoing investigation of a case related to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

    According to the CBI, Sisodia had played the most important and vital role in the criminal conspiracy and had been deeply involved in the formulation and implementation of the said policy to ensure the achievement of the objectives of the said conspiracy.

    NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Wednesday adjourned to May 19 hearing on consideration of Enforcement Directorate (ED)’s supplementary charge filed against AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

    On May 6, the probe agency had informed the Special Judge M.K. Nagpal of Rouse Avenue Court that proceeds of a crime worth Rs 622 crore was generated due to the activities of the accused as excise minister. ,The ED has alleged that Sisodia was the mastermind behind the entire excise policy case and that he had deliberately leaked the policy to the co-accused to generate financial kickbacks.

    Sisodia is currently in judicial custody. On Monday, Judge Nagpal extended Sisodia’s judicial custody till May 23. The ED had arrested Sisodia on March 9 after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him on February 26 this year.

    Last month, Special CBI Judge M. K. Nagpal of Rouse Avenue Court had denied bail to Sisodia, holding that the evidence, prima facie, “speaks volumes” of his involvement in the offence.

    Last week, High Court judge Dinesh Kumar Sharma sought the ED’s response to Sisodia’s bail plea and another application seeking interim bail on the ground of his wife’s ill-health and listed the matter for further consideration on May 11. In the case being probed by the CBI, Delhi court extended Sisodia’s judicial custody till May 12.
