    Smuggling was being done through the Gandak river located in Yadopur police station area of the district. But the team of the excise department has spoiled the plans of the smugglers. The excise department team has recovered a huge quantity of foreign liquor aboard two boats. According to the information recovered liquor was being brought from UP. However, in this action the smugglers were able to escape from the spot.

    In this case, Product Superintendent Rakesh Kumar told that secret information was received that liquor is being smuggled through the Gandak river by boat. On the basis of the information received, the team of the product reached the spot and raided after siege and two boats loaded with liquor were caught. But the smugglers fled as soon as they got a clue of the team’s arrival. He told that 50 cartoons of foreign liquor have been recovered from both the boats. At present, action is being taken against the recovered liquor under the Excise Act.

    According to the police, on the basis of secret information, the police raided the Diyara area of Gandak river in Jadopur police station area and recovered 1233 liters of country liquor kept in 137 cartoons from the boat.

    A police official said that there are six check posts in Gopalganj district in order to enter Bihar from Uttar Pradesh. The incoming people have to pass through the check post. In such a situation, after increasing the strictness against liquor smugglers, smugglers are adopting the river route.

    According to the police, so far this year more than half a dozen boats have been seized for smuggling liquor.

    Superintendent of Police, Gopalganj, Swarna Prabhat said on Thursday that on the basis of secret information, the police seized liquor worth lakhs being brought from the Gandak river.

    He told that a woman liquor smuggler, a resident of Nautan area of West Champaran, has been arrested in this case. However, the liquor smugglers aboard the boat escaped by jumping into the river in the dark of night. Due to the high depth of the river, the police could not catch them.

    He said that mobile phone and diary have been recovered from the woman, which are being investigated.
