    Lumpy virus threat looms large in Hamirpur, Una districts of HP

    HAMIRPUR: A spokesman of the Animal husbandry department said on Wednesday that the animal husbandry department in Una district has geared up against the disease.The department has appealed to the dairy farmers to get their animals vaccinated and have asked them to not buy and sell animals from neighboring states.

    Animal husbandry department has sounded alarm in Una and Hamirpur districts against the threat of lumpy virus, found among cows and buffaloes, officials said on Wednesday. The authorities alerted the two districts following the reports of outbreak of the virus in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Uttarakhand.

    Lumpy skin disease is an infectious disease caused among cattle by lumpy virus. The infection causes formation of knots in the body of animals, which also suffer from weight loss, fluid discharges from the mouth, high fever and reduced milk, as the condition worsens.

    Nearly 25,000 animals were affected by lumpy virus in Hamirpur and Una district last year, with about 1,209 animals dying in Una alone. A spokesman of the Animal husbandry department said on Wednesday that the animal husbandry department in Una district has geared up against the disease.

    The department has appealed to the dairy farmers to get their animals vaccinated and have asked them to not buy and sell animals from neighboring states. Una Deputy Director, the Animal Husbandry Department, Dr Jai Singh Sen said that the department is fully prepared to deal with the lumpy virus.

    He said the vaccine is available absolutely free of cost in all veterinary institutes of the district. ”Don’t buy and sell animals from Lumpy affected areas,” Sen stressed.

    He also appealed to the cattle rearers to immediately report any symptoms such as high fever, loss of appetite, loss of milk and thick lumps in the skin in their cattle to the nearest veterinary hospital or pharmacy. He said that this year so far not a single case of this disease has been reported in Una district.

According to the information, the servers remained down in the depots across the state from Wednesday morning till afternoon. Long queues of people were seen in the depots for ration throughout the day. Due to this, consumers started getting ration after three to four hours. Consumers had reached the depots for ration before 9 am on Wednesday, but the servers of cheap ration depots were down since morning, which remained closed till around 12.30 pm. In such a situation, the consumers have been able to get ration in the depots only after about three and a half to four hours.

    Depot holders are also very hurt due to server down, because without server they are unable to give ration. It is being told that even on Tuesday, the server was running intermittently throughout the day. Consumers have urged the state government to allow the depots to give ration through other options as well, so that when the server is down, the ration of the depots can be given by scanning the QR code and card. In such a situation, the consumers will not have to visit the depots again and again. The problem of server down in depots has been seen across the state. On the other hand, Ashok Kavi State President Depot Steering Committee said that there has been a problem of server down in most of the state’s depots. Heated exchanges of consumers with several depot holders have also been reported. The state government should find a permanent solution to the server down, so that the consumers do not have to worry.

That’s why our body easily digests morning and afternoon meals.

    He told that coarse grains are very beneficial in the midday meal. We can strengthen our health even by taking only tricolor salad at night. Our body also produces harmful substances called free radicals during the digestion process which harm our body by increasing the rate of oxidation and accelerates the signs of ageing. The antioxidant substances present in orange, red, yellow and purple fruits eliminate free radicals and eliminate their side effects. The Child Development Project Officer said that the abundant phytochemicals available in coarse grains are also full of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and form the basis of the body’s immunity. That’s why we should take special care of including all the nutrients in our diet.

Recently, Anupam Thakur, registrar of Himachal Pradesh Technical University, has been appointed OSD here by the state government. After seeking the records from the SIT, after getting permission from the government, the OSD along with the selected employees of the commission has scrutinized the records.

    It is being told that this record will soon be handed over to the SIT. Due to non-receipt of records for the last few days, the investigation in various recruitment examinations was not progressing. Now after a long time the locks of the commission are opened, the investigation is expected to accelerate. The locks of the Heavy Police Force Deployment Commission were opened on Thursday around 10 am in the presence of OSD Anupam Thakur, after which the records were scrutinized here for hours.

The Vigilance team is constantly questioning him, although the former secretary has not been arrested so far. A case has also been registered against the peons of the Commission for tampering with OMR sheets.     Over 500 trees will be axed to make way for a heliport proposed to come up close to the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) here. The district administration had surveyed three sites for the heliport near the district headquarters, but two of them were not found suitable.

    Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had visited the proposed site and directed the district administration to start the process of land transfer and development of the site. The site identified for the heliport is just behind the IHM and close to the campus of Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College and Hospital being constructed at Thai village in the Nadaun constituency.

    It is learnt that about 32 kanal (12,200 sq m) land has been identified. The Forest Department has estimated that over 500 trees will be axed for the heliport. Although a majority of these are pine trees, a number of mango trees and other varieties are also there. One pipal and one banyan tree are also there on the identified land.

    Rakesh Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer, said about 500 trees were standing on the identified land. The details of the trees were being compiled and would be sent to government.
