    Heavy rain in Goa kills one, many houses submerged

    Panaji: A 56-year-old woman was swept away in flood waters while several houses in low-lying areas of Goa were inundated as the coastal state witnessed heavy to very heavy rains in the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday.

    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red’ alert for Goa, forecasting heavy rains in parts of both North Goa and South Goa districts on Thursday. The weather department also predicted inundation of houses in low-lying areas, fall of weak trees and structures, localised and short-term disruption of essential services, and low visibility during intense rain spells.

    The Fire and Emergency Services received several calls of tree fall on roads in parts of Goa while the State Disaster Management Authority has asked all its staff members to cancel their leaves and weekend offs and report on duty until the alert is withdrawn.

    Durg. For the last few years, bridge construction work is going on at Sangam Sagni Ghat, the confluence of Shivnath river, Amer and Nankatti Nala, connecting Dhamdha and Ahiwara assembly. A structure was erected here to build a bridge, which got washed away in the very first rain. According to the information, the construction of this bridge was yet to be done. But the work is going very slow. It is being told that Rs 16.40 crore has been approved for this 400 meter long bridge.

    People reach to see the flood water of Shivnath river by climbing on top of this 400 meter long bridge built over Vio-Sagni Ghat river. Neither any railing nor any security arrangements have been made in the bridge so far. In the absence of guards, people are climbing over the bridge risking their lives. According to the contract with PWD, the contractor was to start the construction of this bridge on 11 November 2020 and complete it in 16 months by 11 April 2022. But the contractor delayed the construction and the bridge has not been completed even 70 percent till June 2023.

    Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Shahdol on Tuesday has been rescheduled for July 1 because of heavy rain. The possibility of heavy rain has also forced the authorities to call off his road show in Bhopal.

    The trip was rescheduled because the Lalpur area in Shahdol, the Prime Minister was address a rally, was filled with water.

    Weather office has warned of heavy rain in different parts of the state including Shahdol.On July 1, Modi will attend two events – one in Parkiya and another in Lalpur.

    Other than addressing tribal people at Lalpur, he will interact with footballers and women of the self-help group at Parkiya.

    Besides he will launch sickle cell eradication mission from 17 states and have food made of millet with tribal people. Preparations are being made to give a rousing a welcome in Shahdol, but the rain spoiled everything.

It showed rainwater entering the platform due to a damaged roof, turning the space into what netizens dubbed a “waterfall.” Passengers on the respective platforms were seen using their umbrellas to avoid getting drenched.

    Mumbai Rains

    Mumbai woke up to a rainy morning as several areas in the city saw light to moderate rainfall on Sunday, June 25. The city has been receiving heavy rainfall since yesterday with waterlogging and traffic snarls reported at several low-lying areas last evening.

    Mumbai’s temperature on Sunday morning is 24.5°C, while the humidity is 95%. The weather agency said maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30°C & 24°C.

    So far, no disruptions in BEST bus or local train services have been reported while the traffic is running smoothly so far as the BMC quickly deployed pumps to clear out the accumulated water.

    According to the local MeT office, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning has affected some parts of Odisha.

    The districts of Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi And Kandhamal ( Including Bhubaneswar City) within next three hours shall experience rain, lightning, and thunderstorms

    The bulletin further read that, “People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike”

    Waterlogging has been experienced in a few parts of the Capital city of Odisha said various reliable reports.

    Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy rain is likely to lash Odisha from June 23. Meanwhile, rain is likely to lash all over the state from today.

    As per the weather prediction of regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), ainfall accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur from and will continue till June 25.

    Bhubaneswar: The regional center of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued yellow warning for heavy rain in seven districts of Odisha.

    The districts including Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Ganjam are likely to experience heavy rainfall. Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

    On the other hand, heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over the district of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sonepur, and Bolangir.

    The State is likely to get some relief from the heat as the Southwest Monsoon is expected to hit the state by June 21, 2023.

    The local MeT office situated here in Bhubaneswar further added that there has been a noticeable drop in the day time temperatures in Odisha.

    The capital city of Bhubaneswar received heavy rain with thunderstorm and lightning at mid-night on Monday leading to a remarkable relief in the sweltering heat.

    Sri Lanka issues landslide warning due to heavy rainfall

    COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s National Building Research Organization (NBRO) on Wednesday urged people to be cautious of possible landslides if heavy rain continues.

    In its latest warning, the NBRO said people in the southern district of Galle, Kandy and Kegalle in the central part of the country and Kurunegala in the North Western Province are asked to be alert, reports Xinhua news agency.

    The warning was issued as Sri Lanka experienced rainfall above 75 mm during the past 24 hours, according to the NBRO.

    The NBRO asked people to take precautions if they notice cracks on the ground, subsidence of the ground, slanting of trees, electricity posts, fences and telephone posts, and cracks on their walls.

    The Sri Lankan Department of Meteorology has forecast heavy rain in the island country accompanied by strong winds.
