    Haryana CM Khattar To Meet Himachal Counterpart Sukhu On June 5

    Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his Himachal Pradesh counterpart Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will meet on June 5 to discuss interstate issues, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

    Khattar chaired a high-level meeting with administrative secretaries to review projects worth more than Rs 100 crore, it said.The issues include construction of the Kishau Dam, a new parallel linked channel from Dadupur to the Hamida Head, Saraswati river rejuvenation and heritage development projects and the water cess issue (for hydro projects), the statement added.

    Khattar said in the meeting that work is being done on various drinking water and irrigation schemes.

    “It is the priority of the state government to provide clean drinking water in sufficient quantities to the citizens across the state uninterruptedly. Also, water will be available for irrigation to the farmers after these projects are completed,” he added.

    The officers apprised the chief minister that work is underway to remodel the Gurugram Water Service channel and construction of the Mewat Feeder Canal project, besides increasing capacity of the JLN Canal and Hansi branch canal’s carrier system.

    “These irrigation and water projects will provide relief in areas with groundwater crises and water for irrigation will be available to industries and farmers,” he said.

    The officials added that work on remodelling of the augmentation canal in Yamunanagar, concrete linking and remodelling from the Munak Head (Karnal) to Khubru Head (Sonipat), increasing the capacity of the sewage treatment plant channel in Dhanwapur and Behrampur (Gurugram), among others, are being expedited.

    Khattar said the state government is endeavouring to strengthen the metro and road network in Gurugram and Faridabad.

    The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority will commence the civil work on the 28-kilometre metro network within a month. Metro connectivity from Rezang La Chowk to Dwarka Sector 21 and the Regional Rapid Transit System from Sarai Kale Khan to Panipat is also being formulated.

    Khattar directed the officers to expedite the work on the state’s first international-level convention centre being built in Faridabad’s Sector 78.

    The centre will include a 200-room hotel, an exhibition and an auditorium block.

    Manali: In a major operation amid the sub-zero temperatures in the Himalayas, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Saturday rescued around 300 motorists, largely tourists, stranded on a major pass in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district.

    They were stranded with the closure of the road network in the Baralacha Pass area owing to onset of heavy snowfall on the night of Friday.

    Following a distress call about 10-km traffic jam near the Baralacha Pass, a team of the BRO comprising Maj Ravishankar, Capt Adhil Rishad, junior engineer Parveen Kumar and others of the BRO Project Deepak, 38 BRTF, rushed to Zing Zing Bar on the Manali-Sarchu road to take a stock of situation and assist the stranded. Approximately 80 to 90 light motor vehicles, 30 to 40 bikers and 300 to 400 heavy motor vehicles got stranded due to traffic blockage, said the BRO.

    After rushing to the location, 15 BRO personnel along with 17 from the police jointly carried out rescue operation and evacuated LMVs to lower altitude.

    Around 130 people in stranded vehicles were provided essential medicines. However, no casualty has been reported.

    In spite of heavy snowfall, brave BRO personnel assisted the stranded people without any regards to own safety and comfort, an official said.

    Himachal Deputy CM To Start Bus Service Between Sri Naina Devi Temple, Delhi Soon

    Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has announced that a bus service between Sri Naina Devi temple here and Delhi will be launched soon.

    The announcement came after a group of local residents met Agnihotri, who also holds the transport portfolio, in this regard on Saturday evening, officials said.

    A bus service would be started between Sri Naina Devi temple and Delhi soon. This initiative would promote religious tourism and facilitate travel to the temple, Agnihotri said.

    Earlier, he said bus services between Chintpurni Mata and Khatushyam temple, Baba Balak Nath temple and Amritsar, Baba Balak Nath (Deyotsiddh) and Delhi are also proposed to be started and all formalities in this regard will be completed soon.

    Himachal Pradesh is home to a large number of ancient temples and five Shaktipeethas — Chintpurni, Barjeshwai Mata, Chamunda Devi, Naina Devi and Jwalaji. Lakhs of devotees visit these religious places every year.

    Agnihotri also reviewed the ongoing development work in Bilaspur district with officials of Jal Shakti Department, Himachal Road Transport Corporation and Transport Department, the officials said.

    He directed the Jal Shakti Department to ensure timely and adequate supply of drinking water to the people during summer, they said.

    He also participated in the 23rd ‘Vishal Bhagwati Jagran’ as the chief guest and paid obeisance to the goddess.

    Five persons were killed near Yol, 8 km from Dharamsala, when the canter in which they were travelling fell into a gorge. The deceased included two men, two women and a child. All the deceased were residents of Rater village near Yol.

    Sources said the deceased who included three members of a family were returning after harvesting wheat in fields.

    The driver of the canter reportedly lost control over vehicle and it rolled down a gorge. The accident happened at about 4 pm. The locals launched rescue and shifted the injured to Tanda medical college. Five accident victims lost their life.

    Sudhir Sharma, local congress MLA, announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 25,000 to kin of deceased. He said all kind of help would be provided to accident-hit families.

    Kangra SP Shalini Agnihotri was not available for comments despite repeated calls on her mobile.

    Due to the changed weather due to the activation of Western Disturbance, a decrease of three to four degrees has been registered in the maximum temperature of the state. The Meteorological Center Shimla has predicted bad weather in Himachal till April 22.

    Shimla, New Delhi: According to the latest report of the Association for Democratic Reforms, currently 29 out of 30 Chief Ministers are crorepatis. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s name is at the top of this list. At number two is Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, while West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has the least assets, according to the report. According to ADR, Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s total assets are Rs 7.81 crore and he is at number 17 in the list of richest chief ministers of the country. Along with this, he is having a liability of more than Rs 22 lakh. According to the report, a total of four cases are registered against CM Sukhu, out of which only one is of serious crime. ADR and Election Watch came to this conclusion after analyzing the affidavits filed by 30 sitting chief ministers of states and union territories. After analyzing the affidavits of 30 Chief Ministers, ADR found that 29 i.e. 97 percent of the Chief Ministers are crorepatis.

    Each of these chief ministers has an average of Rs 33.96 crore in assets. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is the richest. He has assets worth Rs 510.38 crore. On the second number is Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, who has assets worth 163.50 crores. It is followed by Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik with 63.87 crores. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal have assets worth Rs.3 crore each. After this Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar have assets worth one crore each. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has the least assets. Mamta Banerjee has assets worth only 15 lakhs.

    13 out of 30 CMs have serious criminal cases

    Out of 30 Chief Ministers of the country, 13 i.e. 43 percent have criminal cases registered against them under serious sections. It also includes cases like murder, attempt to murder and kidnapping. Serious criminal cases are non-bailable offenses with jail term of more than five years, the report said.

    Gagan. Anti-Narcotics Force Kullu team arrested a 30-year-old youth with 14 grams of chitta at Salapad, Sundernagar on NH-21 Chandigarh-Manali and started investigation by registering a case against him under the NDPS Act.

    According to the information, the Anti-Narcotics Force team had put a blockade in Salapad and every vehicle coming and going was being checked. Meanwhile, Chandigarh Transport’s bus on Chandigarh-Manali route was stopped for checking, then 30-year-old Rinku Tamang village Sarwari Post Office Dhalpur Tehsil Sadar district Kullu, 14 gram chitta was recovered from it.

    After arresting the accused in police station Sundernagar, a case has been registered against him and handed over to Sundernagar police for further action. DSP Sundernagar Dinesh Kumar told that the youth has been arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Force team Kullu with 14 grams of chitta.

    The state recorded as many as eight Covid-related deaths in the last one week, with the positivity rate touching seven per cent. Hamirpur district recorded the highest positivity rate of 11 per cent, followed closely by Una (9.3 per cent) and Kangra (9.2 per cent).

    Shimla district recorded the lowest positivity rate of 2.8 per cent. The rate of hospitalisation is 1.3 per cent.

    On Monday, no death was reported even as the new cases went beyond 400 for the first time in a single day in the latest spurt in cases. With 422 new cases reported today and the recovery of 424 persons, the active case count is 1,762 in the state.

    Meanwhile, the Health Department has started mock drills in health institutions across the state to check the Covid-preparedness in view of the rising number of cases.

    On Monday, the mock drill was carried out at 224 health facilities across the state. The drill will be carried out tomorrow as well at healthcare facilities.

    Four people died of Covid-related illness in the state today, ringing alarm bells for the Public Health Department. Three deaths have been reported from Shimla and one from Sirmaur district.

    All four victims, aged 50, 58, 65 and 81 years, had comorbidities. Nevertheless, the death toll for a single day is quite worrisome, especially considering that casualties have been reported regularly due to Covid-related illnesses over the past few days. It’s for the first time since August last year that four people have died of Covid in a single day.

    “The death toll in a single day is high, but all victims had serious comorbidities. They were already struggling with their respective illness and Covid deteriorated their condition further,” said a health official.

    The state has seen a major spike in the number of active cases over the last week or so. Over the past few days, the state is recording new cases in excess of 300 when the testing is around 5,000.

    Today, 137 cases were reported as the testing dropped to 1,718 on account of a holiday. Even as the hospital admission continues to be low and the positivity rate has gone beyond 6 per cent. The active case count is 1,764.

    CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has already urged people to wear masks and follow the Covid protocol in crowded places. The advice, though, hasn’t been taken seriously yet.
