    New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached New York on his first state visit to America. A large number of Indians are present outside the New York airport to welcome PM Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in a yoga program at the United Nations Headquarters tomorrow.

    When Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives to address the joint session of the US Parliament on June 22, Indian American MP Thanedar will escort him to the dais. Thanedar, a leader of the Democratic Party, represents Michigan’s 13th Congressional District in Parliament. He has also been invited by US President Joe Biden for the state dinner organized in honor of Prime Minister Modi on June 22 at the White House (the official residence and office of the US President).
    This is the second time that Prime Minister Modi will address a joint session of the US Parliament. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. Earlier he had addressed the US Parliament in 2016. Thanedar (68) said, “Me and (my wife) Shashi are looking forward to the Prime Minister’s visit to America. This is a historic program for the Prime Minister. I hope that the Prime Minister will emphasize on a stronger relationship between the US and India.
    He said the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden to the state dinner is an honor and a testament to their commitment to public service and their dedication to advancing international cooperation. He has the distinct distinction of escorting Prime Minister Modi to the dais when he arrives to address a joint session of Parliament.
    Describing his personal journey in life, Thanedar said, “I grew up in poverty and came to America with a dream. I am fortunate to have lived my dream in America. America is a country of immigrants, it is a land of opportunity, and this diversity is what makes our country strong.” He reiterated his commitment to supporting strong ties between the US and India.
    On Tuesday, Modi will meet over two dozen thinkers and experts from various fields, including Nobel laureate economists, artists, scientists, scholars, entrepreneurs, educationists and health experts. Prime Minister Modi is likely to meet Tesla and Twitter owner Elon Musk, astronaut and author Neil deGrasse Tyson, Nobel laureate economist Paul Romer, author Nicolas Nassim Talib and investor Ray Dalio.

    HC Refuses To Transfer To Cbi Probe Into Gangster’s Murder

    The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday refused to order a CBI probe into the murder of gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva, saying the SIT is investigating the incident and it is premature to seek transfer of the case.

    A vacation bench of justices DK Upadhyaya and Jaspreet Singh here passed the order on a PIL by local lawyer Moti Lal Yadav who said that the incident in the courtroom had stunned everybody and it should be investigated either by the CBI or a retired high court judge.

    The Lucknow bench said that the petition has been filed at a very “premature stage” as it has been only a few days since the Special Investigation Team was constituted.

    The court also said that it expects the SIT to conduct a fair and speedy probe.

    Disposing of the petition, the bench clarified that the plea can be filed at a later stage if the petitioner feels aggrieved with the probe of SIT.

    Earlier, opposing the PIL, advocate general Ajay Kumar Mishra had argued that the state government was taking the June 7 incident very seriously and it constituted a high-level SIT on the same day.

    The SIT has been conducting an investigation and the petitioner could not point out any reason as to why the probe should be transferred to any other agency.

    During the hearing, the bench said that the deceased was a dreaded criminal but his murder in police custody could not be justified in any manner.

    It also said that it expected members of the bar associations to cooperate in security checks on court campuses.

    Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva an aide of gangster Mukhtar Ansari was shot dead on June 7 in court premises in Lucknow. The attacker, who was allegedly dressed as a lawyer, opened fire at Maheshwari in the court.

    The state government had constituted a three-member SIT to probe the incident.

    CBI Registers FIR In AIIMS Nursing Recruitment Exam Paper Leak

    The CBI has registered a case in connection with the alleged leak of question papers of a nursing officer recruitment examination conducted by the AIIMS-Delhi on June 3, officials said on Tuesday.

    The federal agency has booked the Mohali-based Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology and one Ritu in connection with the alleged leak, they said.

    The Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET-4) was conducted for the appointment of nursing officers to all the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and four other Delhi hospitals.

    Screenshots of the question papers surfaced on social media on the day of the examination, triggering speculation of the paper leak, they said.

    The analysis of screenshots showed the console of a candidate named Ritu, who was allocated the center at Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology, they said.

    Delhi will soon have food truck hubs like that in New York, Hong Kong and Australia, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday giving in-principle approval to a policy.

    The policy will be implemented with the operation of food trucks in 16 selected locations. Upon its successful implementation, the model will be replicated across Delhi, according to a statement from the chief minister’s office.Kejriwal took to Twitter to announce the introduction of the food truck policy, approved at a meeting on Tuesday.

    “This plan will allow the citizens of Delhi to enjoy delicious meals even late at night. Additionally, it will create opportunities for employment on a large scale and strengthen the economy,” he tweeted.

    Additionally, dedicated food hubs will be developed to cater to the needs of Delhi residents, fostering economic growth and employment prospects during nighttime.

    According to the statement, Kejriwal has given his in-principle approval to the policy.

    Food trucks have gained immense popularity in major cities and tourist destinations worldwide such as New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Australia, Singapore, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

    Following this global trend, the Kejriwal government aims to promote food culture in Delhi, enabling residents to experience the culinary diversity of various Indian cities, the statement said.

    The primary objective of the policy is to establish Delhi as the “food truck capital”.

    The Delhi government intends to support small businesses through this policy, while simultaneously generating employment opportunities and boosting the nighttime economy of the city.

    The Public Works Department (PWD) has identified 16 locations, including renowned marketplaces and neighbourhoods, for the establishment of these food truck hubs initially. Subsequently, food truck hubs will be opened across the city.

    PWD Minister Atishi said the policy will not only generate employment opportunities but also contribute to the city’s nighttime economy.

    The policy prioritises the maintenance and upkeep of these food hubs, with the responsibility for their operation and maintenance entrusted to a designated agency, the statement said.

    Presenting the budget for the financial year 2022-23, then deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had said the government was preparing a policy to allow food trucks to operate at designated places in the city from 8 pm to 2 am.

    “This will strengthen the night economy of Delhi and new employment opportunities will be created,” Sisodia had said.

    World Bank Assures Kerala CM Of Investment In State’s Basic Infrastructure Sectors

    World Bank officials on Tuesday assured Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that they were ready to make investments in the state’s basic infrastructure sectors.

    The assurance was given to Vijayan when he met Anna Bjerde, the Managing Director (operations) of the World Bank, at Washington DC, a statement issued by his office said.

    In the meeting, discussions were also held regarding the progress in various projects, including the Rebuild Kerala initiative which is being carried out in collaboration with World Bank, it said.

    Earlier, a high-level team from World Bank had visited Kerala to review the various development and policy programmes being implemented in the state as part of the Rebuild Kerala initiative and had also held discussions with the CM, the statement said.

    The meeting held in Washington DC was in continuation of that, it said.

    Besides the CM, Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal, Chief Secretary V P Joy and Planning Board Vice Chairman V K Ramachandran also participated in the meeting, the statement said.

    A mega hydropower project will soon be started in India that has been in the works for 20 years now. It will be a big step for the energy transition in the country.

    According to the reports, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, a state-run hydropower company will start trial runs for the Subansin Lower project in July. The Subhasin Lower Project runs through the states of Assam and Arunchal Pradesh.

    Reportedly the first unit of the mega project is expected to be commissioned in December as told by finance director Rajendra Prasad Goyal. He also said that all eight units will be commissioned by the end of 2024.

    Reports say that hydropower has the ability to quickly respond to fluctuations in electricity demands and that becomes crucial to balance the rise in intermittent generation of solar and wind power.     Rajendra Prasad Goyal reportedly said, “We need to get nearly 40 approvals from different departments before we start building a hydropower project. All the scrutiny should be done at this stage.” He added, “Any stoppages after the construction has begun is problematic.”

    According to the reports, the large dams are a way of boosting local economies in India, especially in the borders of China and Pakistan where the situation is tense usually. It is also said that NHPC will be ordering construction for the 2.9-gigawatt Dibang project which would be India’s biggest hydropower plant.

    Reportedly in order to encourage hydropower, the government has given clean energy status to the large dams. This would reportedly allow the provincial power distributors to prioritize hydropower over fossil fuel powered electricity while purchasing.

    Reports say that the government has agreed upon budgetary support for certain cases on civil construction and flood moderation work.

    In a major setback to the Kerala Blasters, The All India Football Federation (AIFF) rejected the club’s appeal against a fine of Rs. 4 crore on Friday. When KBFC, one of the most well-reputed football clubs in India, left the Indian Super League 2023 (ISL) match against Bengaluru FC on March 3 before the final whistle, it sparked a significant uproar.

    The AIFF Disciplinary Committee fined Ivan Vukomanovic, the team’s head coach, Rs. 6 crores on March 31 for causing the players to quit the game. In their appeal, Kerala Blasters requested that the committee impose a smaller sanction. The club was told to pay a Rs. 4 crore fine levied by the Disciplinary Committee after the Appeal Committee rejected their request.

    Ivan Vukomanovic received a Rs. 10 lakh fine and a 10-match suspension at first. Kerala Blasters asked the committee to impose a reduced fine in their appeal. The committee upheld its judgement to suspend the head coach for 10 games but reduced the fine to Rs 5 lakh.

    “This Committee holds that the appeal of the Appellant Coach is denied and that Mr. Ivan Vukomanovic is instructed to pay the fine of Rs. 5 lakh and serve the suspension for 10 matches and the ban from being a part of the team dressing room and team bench, irrespective of the team he is contracted with. Any match for which such suspension and ban have already been served shall count towards compliance with this decision,” the Appeal Committee added.
