  • ED to interrogate main accused in TSPSC paper leak case

ED to interrogate main accused in TSPSC paper leak case

Hyderabad (IANS) | The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will interrogate the main accused in the Telangana State Public Service (TSPSC) exam paper leak case. The central agency filed a petition in the Nampally court seeking permission to interrogate Praveen Kumar and Rajasekhara Reddy. Reddy is a suspended TSPSC employee and is currently in judicial custody. The ED moved the court for recording the statement of the accused under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency told the court that it has the authority to investigate under sections 48 and 49.

The ED has filed the Enforcement Case Information Report based on media reports, information available in public domain and initial inputs from intelligence. The court was told that a four-member team of ED officials would record the statements of the accused.

The ED also sought the court’s direction to the Chanchalguda jail superintendent to allow laptops, printers and other electronic gadgets in the prison for recording statements.

The agency has also mentioned in its plea that it had written to the Central Crime Station (CCS) on March 23 seeking documents and details of the case. It sought a direction to hand over the details of the case to the police.

The ED has also issued notices to two officers of TSPSC including Confidential Section Officer Shankara Lakshmi. He has been asked to appear for questioning on April 12 and 13. The accused had stolen the question papers from Lakshmi’s computer.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Hyderabad Police probing the paper leak on Tuesday submitted its probe report in a sealed cover to the Telangana High Court. While hearing the petition of NSUI leader Balamuri Venkat, the court had directed the SIT to submit its report.

The Advocate General told the court that out of 18 accused, 17 have been arrested by the SIT while efforts are on to arrest one more accused who is in New Zealand.

The counsel for the petitioner argued that he had no faith in the SIT. He also told the court that the SIT investigation is limited to some lower rank employees of TSPSC. Stating that the ED is talking about transactions from abroad, he said that facts can come out only after a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The court asked the Advocate General whether the candidates were allowed to appear in the examination as per the rules and sought details such as the name of the agency to which the task of conducting the examination was outsourced.

The paper leak issue rocked the TSPSC last month. In the confidential section of TSPSC, two employees stole question papers from the computer system and shared them with others. TSPSC has canceled four examinations, including the preliminary examination conducted for recruitment to Group-1 posts in government departments.

The SIT has also recorded the statements of the Chairman, Secretary and a member of TSPSC and has also questioned several candidates who have scored good marks in the Group-I examination.

Hospitals in Hyderabad witness surge in patients with moonlighting-related ailments

Hyderabad: Hospitals in Hyderabad have reported a surge in patients with brain and heart-related ailments caused by moonlighting. Moonlighting, a practice of working for a business of the same niche while being a permanent employee of another, has gained momentum due to remote working and reduced job security since the Covid pandemic. Although there is a debate on whether moonlighting is ethical, its side effects have not been discussed much.

Doctors from Hyderabad, who have treated many patients who suffered brain and heart-related ailments due to moonlighting, have a word of caution.

Hyderabad, a key IT and ITes destination in the country, is home to millions of technology professionals. There would be thousands of professionals who might be working for more than one company, and this trend would have only multiplied since the start of 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic struck, and work from home became the new normal. However, hospitals in Hyderabad have now started receiving more and more patients with complaints and ailments which are believed to be the side-effects of moonlighting.

“We are a rehabilitation facility where we help patients who have suffered a brain stroke or heart attack or underwent some surgical procedure to recover. Over the past six months, we have received patients from various hospitals in the city who needed recovery after suffering a brain stroke or heart attack,” said Vijay Bathina, Director and Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, at Uchchvas Transitionalcare.

“The most common factor is that they were all IT professionals, they all were doing more than one job, they all worked for more than 60 hours a week, and were working late into the night. These three common factors indicate that moonlighting, which is a growing phenomenon among the new generation professionals, has started impacting their health.”

Man paid 6 lakhs to buy TSPSC paper for his girlfriend

Hyderabad: A new revelation has been made in the investigation of the Telangana State Public Service Commission examination. A lover has reportedly bought the DAO exam paper for Rs 6 lakh for his girlfriend. The duo was produced before the magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

The disclosure of TSPSC papers has become a sensational issue in the state and has created a political storm. Following protests by opposition parties and student organizations, the government formed an SIT to probe the matter. Loukik, a lover, had allegedly bought the paper for the examination to be held on February 26 by paying Parveen Rs 6 lakh for the Divisional Accounts Officer (DAO) for her beloved Sushmita.

After the leak of the papers, the Telangana State Public Service Commission cancelled the DAO exam along with other examinations. The SIT probing the case issued notices to hundreds of people and questioned them and arrested 17 people so far. Which includes this lover couple.

According to the reports Loukik managed to bought the question paper for DAOs entrance test from Praveen by paying a whopping Rs 6 lakh, however it was not immediately clear how Loukik got in touch with one of the main accused in the scandal Praveen. But Loukik reportedly gave the leaked paper to his girlfriend Sushmita to help her ace the entrance examination. While checking Praveen’s bank statements, the SIT found out the transaction of Loukik.

The SIT summoned the commission’s secretary to its office and instead of issuing a notice to chairman Janardan Reddy, who had assumed the democratic post of inquiry, his statement was recorded at his office.

The SIT is also questioning all candidates of the Group-I preliminary exam who scored 100 and above marks out of a total of 150 marks.

  • KTR urges Amit Shah for CRPF exams in all official languages

KTR urges Amit Shah for CRPF exams in all official languages

Hyderabad: Stating that Centre’s decision to conduct Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recruitment examinations only in English and Hindi would be disadvantageous to job aspirants who are not acquainted with these two languages, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President and IT Minister KT Rama Rao urged union Home Minister Amit Shah to revise the CRPF recruitment notification to include Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and other official languages.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had on Thursday issued a notification regarding recruitment for around 1.30 lakh posts of constables in the CRPF. As per the notification, the Computer Based Test will be conducted in English and Hindi only.

Rama Rao, in a letter to Shah on Friday, said the competitive exams were being held only in English and Hindi, which was a serious disadvantage to students who did not study in English medium or were not from Hindi-speaking States.

The National Recruitment Agency had decided to facilitate a Common Eligibility Test (NRA-CET) to replace multiple examinations and conduct these in 12 Indian languages. However, this was not being implemented properly, including in the (CRPF) recruitment notification, he pointed out.

Conducting competitive exams only in Hindi goes against the spirit of the constitution as there are several official languages in India, Rama Rao said, adding that the CRPF notification denies people the right to equal opportunities guaranteed by the constitution.

He recalled that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on November 18, 2020 had written to the Centre urging it to hold all competitive exams to union government jobs in regional languages.

He appealed to Shah to revise the CRPF notification so that crores of youth studying in regional languages would get equal opportunities without any discrimination or inequality.

  • Real estate in Hyderabad: Demand-supply mismatch increases property rates

Real estate in Hyderabad: Demand-supply mismatch increases property rates

Hyderabad: Real estate in Hyderabad has witnessed a significant increase in property rates due to a demand-supply mismatch, according to the Magicbricks PropIndex Report (January – March) 2023. The report revealed that residential demand in Hyderabad grew by 6% QoQ while supply decreased by 14.2% QoQ, resulting in a 5.8% QoQ increase in property rates. The localities of Gachibowli, Miyapur, and Kondapur in western Hyderabad experienced the highest residential demand due to their proximity to the Nehru ORR and major employment hubs.

The demand for mid-segment properties (Rs 5000-7000 per square feet) has been increasing, accounting for approximately 50% of the demand and supply in the city. With a continued preference for spacious homes, 2 and 3BHKs commanded 90 percent of the total demand in the city.

Elaborating on the trends of real estate in Hyderabad, Sudhir Pai, CEO of Magicbricks commented, “Several multilateral agencies have projected that the Indian economy will grow by 6-7% in FY’ 23, despite the global slowdown. The recent Union Budget has also introduced several encouraging initiatives, including substantial allocations to PMAY and UIDF, which have set the wheels in motion for facilitating employment opportunities and infrastructure development. Given the under-served demand for home-ownership in the affordable and mid-range segment, we are optimistic about the growth trajectory for residential demand in the coming quarters as well. We anticipate that the market will stabilise, supplemented by new projects and expedited delivery of under-construction properties, which will open up new avenues for investment and innovation.”
