Islamabad:  “Your game is over, Imran Khan,” Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz said while addressing a large number of vibrant party supporters.

This claim was certainly not made for the first time by Maryam and her party leaders, but this time around, keeping in view the mass exodus (voluntary or otherwise) by the senior PTI leadership in the aftermath of May 9 riots, odds were truly stacked against Imran as he seems to be fighting a losing battle, The Express Tribune reported.

Maryam addressing a youth convention, first time after the May 9 riots by alleged PTI workers, said: “This change (alluding to the PTI mantra of Tabdeli), will drown in the same open sewer it came out of.”

Accusing Khan of the being the mastermind of the May 9 riots that saw many military and private properties attacked by angry protesters, Maryam said that people would not spare Imran and judges who supported him in his illegal escapades, referring to Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandial, The Express Tribune reported.

Maryam chided the PTI workers and leaders for being wimps, saying said that Imran and his party could not stand hardships even for a brief while, whereas her father, Nawaz Sharif, and his entire party stood tall in the face of audacity. “Those who tried to whip out Nawaz Sharif have themselves been whipped out,” the PML-N SVP said.

Maryam said no enemy could dare commit the kind of acts Imran and his people committed. As soon as Imran was arrested, his people proceeded with the already planned protest attacking military installations throughout the country, Express Tribune reported.

“Why did the protesters in Lahore not turn towards the Mall of Lahore, which is right across of corps commander’s residence? Why did they go straight for cantonment in Quetta, towards GHQ instead of Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi and towards FC in Peshawar?

“Why did they burn a plane, a symbol of our valor and bravery in Mianwali? These attacks were on Pakistan Army”, Express Tribune reported.

Imran Khan’s aide Babar Awan departs for London amid chaos in party

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Imran Khan’s close aide, Babar Awan, on Friday, departed for London amid ongoing unrest within the party, reported Geo News.

Several prominent leaders decided to part ways with PTI and said they are leaving politics. However, Babar Awan defended himself and added by saying that his visit to London was “pre-planned”.

The Islamabad High Court on Thursday ordered the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Ejaz Chaudhry declaring his arrest under MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) as unlawful.

The decision came immediately after Asad Umar, the secretary general of PTI, was released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. However, shortly after leaving the jail, he held a press conference at the National Press Club and announced his resignation from all party positions, reported Geo News.

Awan is a close aide and legal advisor of the PTI chairman. His family sources, according to Geo News, said that Awan’s London trip was already scheduled, adding that he would return soon.

Clarifying his visit, Awan said in a tweet, stating he is away due to personal obligations. “All of my medicines are Pakistani and [I receive] treatment by Pakistani doctors,” he added. Around eight people were killed and many were injured as a result of the days-long protests sparked by Khan’s arrest from the Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case, and the government blocked internet services to ensure law and order.

Khan’s party has felt the heat of the state’s might since his detention on May 9 — a day the army dubbed “Black Day” — when his party workers burned and wrecked military installations, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to Geo News.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday this week announced his resignation from the party saying he has decided “to take a break from politics.” “In my earlier statement where I unequivocally condemned the 9th May incidents, I have decided to take a break from politics, therefore, I have resigned from the party position and parting ways with Imran Khan,” tweeted Fawad Chaudhry.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari also announced her decision to quit PTI and politics recently.

Mazari’s announcement came after incidents in Pakistan on May 9 and 10 which she strongly condemned. She announced, “From today onwards, I am no longer a part of PTI or any political party.” Shireen Mazari expressed her commitment to her children and her mother and stressed that they are her top priority at this time, ARY News reported.

Shireen Mazari has been arrested multiple times since the May 9 incidents. After the court ordered her release, She was taken away in a Vigo without a number plate, Dawn reported. Mazari was presented by the police in court in a case related to inciting party supporters in Kharian on May 9.

According to Geo News, several leaders of Imran Khan’s party and thousands of workers have been detained in connection with the violent rallies. The army has demanded that those participating in attacks on military installations face prosecution under the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act.

Police get warrant to search Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence

LAHORE: Police in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Friday obtained warrants from court to carry out a search at former prime minister Imran Khan’s residence, local media reported.

The development comes after the provincial government decided to send a team to hold talks with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief before conducting the search operation at Zaman Park, Geo News reported.

According to details, an officer of the rank of superintendent of police will lead the party which will also include women personnel. Commissioner Lahore Division will accompany the search team.

The provincial government on Wednesday had claimed that “30-40 terrorists were hiding inside Khan’s residence” and gave 24 hours to PTI to hand over these miscreants or face action, Geo News reported.

However, no action was taken after the deadline expired on Thursday.

Later, Punjab Information Minister Amir Mir said that law enforcers will conduct a search operation at Khan’s residence after his permission and in front of cameras to apprehend “terrorists”.

“We [the interim government] have decided that instead of a head-on collision, we will send a delegation to Khan sahab under the supervision of the Lahore commissioner,” Mir told Geo News.

“They will ask him [Khan] to allow them to conduct a search operation. A police party – comprising 400 personnel – will accompany the delegation as there is a reported presence of terrorists,” he said.

Earlier, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Saddique Kamyana claimed to have arrested six more “terrorists” attempting to flee from Khan’s Zaman Park residence.

According to CCPO Kamyana four of the alleged “terrorists” were involved in the attack on Askari Tower while two of them were among those who ransacked the Corps Commander House Lahore.

On Thursday, Punjab province Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir shared that eight “terrorists” had been arrested while they were escaping from Lahore’s Zaman Park area.

The arrested terrorists were wanted in the attack on the Lahore Corps Commander House on May 9, he had said, Geo News reported.

Imran Khan came out as a “dirty dealer”: Pakistan Minister

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal has said that PTI chief Imran Khan has “come out as a dirty leader,” reported Dawn. Speaking about the Al-Qadir Trust case, Iqbal said that the former prime minister had claimed that the cabinet had given the approval for the transaction in question.

However, Iqbal also alleged, the then-cabinet secretary had informed the government that ex-accountability czar Shehzad Akbar had handed Imran a sealed envelope, read a report published in Dawn.

“You (Imran) waved around the envelope and that this important case had also been accepted. And when other ministers inquired about the case, you snubbed them and shut them up,” Iqbal said, adding that this was how Imran had gotten the “dirty deal” with Malik Riaz approved by the cabinet. He said, “Imran Sahib, you have come out as a dirty dealer.” The Planning Minister has also said that by “settling” the fine imposed on property tycoon Malik Riaz, PTI chief Khan had obtained 650 kanals of land for the Al-Qadir University, according to Dawn.

“When it is your turn to give receipts, you are crying? When it is your turn to give receipts, you have […] burnt everything? Just because you don’t have receipts and you don’t have an answer?” He added Imran wanted to hide behind violence and lawlessness, Dawn reported.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal slammed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for attacking parliament, the country’s military and PTV over the arrest of former PM Imran Khan and said that PTI has removed itself from the “tribe of politics” and joined in the “tribe of terrorists.”

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Ahsan Iqbal wrote, “PTI today in Pakistan has removed itself from the tribe of politics and joined it in the tribe of terrorists. Made the enemies of Pakistan happy. First the attack on PTV, then the attack on the parliament and now the attack on the military organization and what is called terrorism? Foreign funding does not come for free.”

Ahsan Iqbal’s statement came after protests erupted across Pakistan after PTI chairman Imran Khan was arrested on Tuesday. Khan was, however, released two days after his arrest on Friday.

Islamabad HC grants two-week bail to Imran Khan in corruption case

ISLAMABAD: A special bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday granted bail to former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan for two weeks in a corruption case.

A division bench comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz heard the Al-Qadir trust corruption case, a day after the Supreme Court termed Khan’s arrest from the IHC premises on Tuesday as “invalid and unlawful”.

Khan, 70, arrived at the court shortly after 11:30 am local time amid tight security and underwent the biometric identification process and other formalities.

The hearing was delayed for nearly two hours due to security reasons.

Earlier, the two judges left the courtroom amid pro-Khan slogan shouting by a lawyer. The upset judges later announced that the hearing will resume after Friday prayers.

Dawn News reported that Khan’s lawyers had filed four additional requests which urged the IHC to club all the cases against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and to direct authorities to provide details of the cases registered against him.

Khan was arrested from the premises of the IHC on Tuesday in the Al-Qadir Trust case after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) issued an arrest warrant against him.

His arrest by paramilitary Rangers sparked widespread protests across Pakistan, prompting the deployment of the Army here as well as in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. The IHC upheld his arrest but a three-member Supreme Court bench on Thursday declared his detention “illegal” and ordered his immediate release. The apex court directed police to keep him in the Supreme Court’s protection and produce him before the high court at 11 am.

  • Two senior leaders from Imran Khan’s party arrested

Two senior leaders from Imran Khan’s party arrested

ISLAMABAD: Two senior leaders of Imran Khan’s party were arrested on Friday as the Pakistan government launched a crackdown on the opposition party amidst the worsening political turmoil in the country following the former prime minister’s arrest in a corruption case.

Shireen Mazari, a former federal minister for Human Rights, was arrested from her house. Imaan Hazir-Mazari, the daughter of Mazari and a lawyer, shared a video on Twitter that appeared to show plainclothes men forcefully entering her home to arrest the former minister.

Later, another video emerged on Twitter showing female officers taking the former minister away from her residence. As she was escorted to a police vehicle, Mazari raised a victory sign, saying “victory for democracy”, while condemning “state terrorism” as unacceptable.

Shortly before posting the video, Mazari’s daughter had tweeted that approximately 50 cops carrying firearms had entered her residence.

“Our SVP Dr Shireen Mazari is being abducted at this precise moment. Police have also entered with guns her home, reaching a new low. Extremely shameful!” the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) wrote on Twitter.

Her arrest comes after a series of arrests of several other PTI leaders, including Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ali Mohammad Khan, and Senator Ejaz Chaudhry. All of these leaders other than Khan were arrested under section three of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

According to a PTI statement, former Punjab health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has also been arrested. PTI leader Andaleeb Abbas said that the former minister was hiding to avoid arrest.

”Police had taken her close family members into custody two days ago but her husband was released after his health deteriorated. Her brother-in-law is still in police custody.

There are several cases filed against Yasmin, including that of an attack on the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence. Khan, 70, was arrested on Tuesday from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and an accountability court Wednesday handed him over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for eight days remand in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.

His arrest sparked widespread protests across Pakistan, prompting the government to deploy the army in the national capital as well as in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. The violent protests left at least eight people dead.

On Thursday, a three-member Supreme Court bench, comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah, ordered Khan’s immediate release.

Khan is facing over 120 cases across the country, including for allegedly committing treason and blasphemy and inciting violence and terrorism.

The bench, while hearing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman’s plea against his arrest, expressed anger at the way he was taken into custody by paramilitary Rangers and ordered the NAB to produce him before it.

Khan, who was ousted from power in April last year, was brought to the court amid heavy security. The court also directed him to approach the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday and seek further legal recourse. ”You will have to accept whatever the high court decides,” the top judge said.

Bandial also said that it is every politician’s responsibility to ensure law and order.

Khan is set to appear before the IHC on Friday for pre-arrest bail amid tight security as his party announced a rally on the occasion and asked followers to gather nearby the court for the leader’s address.

The IHC upheld his arrest but the Supreme Court on Thursday invalidated his incarceration declaring no one could be arrested from inside the court and ordered his release as it directed police to keep him in the Supreme Court’s protection and produce him before the high court at 11 am.
