    Inauguration of cycle rally to spread awareness about environment

    Nellore : Municipal Commissioner Vikas Marmat on Friday said that everyone should take a pledge to preserve environment in their surroundings.

    Flagging off cycle rally on Lifestyle for Environment jointly organised by Pollution Control Board (PCB) and Village Ward Secretariats here on Friday, the Commissioner stated that protection of environment would be possible by making small changes in our lifestyle like minimising the consumption of plastic bags, utilising solar equipment, electric vehicles and cycling for small distances. To create awareness among public over the necessity of protecting the environment, the municipal administration has proposed to organise programmes like rallies, walkthon and marathon competitions, he pointed out. He exhorted people to play active role in transforming Nellore as pollution-free city by extending their solidarity to municipal administration. NMC higher officials, staff, teachers, students and voluntary bodies members were present.

    Butterfly Paradise Park inaugurated

    A Butterfly Paradise Park was inaugurated at Carmel Convent School here on Friday. The park will provide information about butterflies and their role in human life and food-cycle. Various plants and trees that attract butterflies have been planted in the park. Aesthetically designed colourful display boards have been installed in the park. Eco-club students of the school distributed 3D butterfly keychains on the occasion. “Butterflies are pollinators. Their contribution to agriculture is valued next to honey bees,” said Sr Mary Supreeta, school Principal, during inauguration of the park.

    An investiture ceremony for the secondary wing was organised at PML SD Public School, Sector 32C, here on Friday. All cabinet members were conferred with badges and sashes.     Annual investiture ceremony was organised by Paragon Convent School, Sector 24, here on Friday. During ceremony, students of Classes VII and VIII were bestowed titles of house captains and vice-captains. The school head boy and head girl were chosen on merit from Class VIII. The badges of class monitors and discipline in-charges were given to students of Classes V to VIII. The event culminated with an address by Principal Rajni Dutta.

    A language and social studies exhibition was organised at AKSIPS 41 Smart School here on Friday. All three languages -English, Hindi and Punjabi – tableaus exhibited culture and heritage of the region. The Punjabi stall displayed components of Punjabi grammar. The Hindi exhibition displayed story of puppet world and presented models of television and bioscope. Games like tongue twister, matching opposites and riddles were the hallmark of English language stall. The life story of Indian children writers and their works were also exhibited on the occasion.

    Guru Nanak Foundation, Mohali

    Fateh Divas was celebrated at Gurdwara Fateh Jang Sahib at Chappar Chiri village on Friday. On the occasion, Guru Nanak Foundation Public School, Sector 92, Mohali, organised a ‘Chhabeel’. Sweet water bottles were distributed among devotees, who participated in a procession that started from gurdwara. The school staff and students of Classes X and XII attended the celebrations.

    New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly- constructed Parliament building on May 28.

    Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla met Modi on Thursday and extended an invitation to inaugurate the new building, the Lok Sabha Secretariat said.

    The new Parliament building can comfortably seat 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber and 300 in the Rajya Sabha chamber, it said.

    In case of a joint sitting of both the Houses, a total of 1,280 members can be accommodated in the Lok Sabha chamber.

    AHMEDABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the airport here on Friday morning for a daylong visit to Gujarat during which he will attend three programmes, including the 29th Biennial Conference of All India Primary Teachers’ Federation.

    Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of projects worth around Rs 4,400 crore at another event at Mahatma Mandir and visit the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) to review the status of various ongoing works, said officials.

    The PM will participate in Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Sangh Adhiveshan, which is the 29th Biennial Conference of the All India Primary Teachers’ Federation. The theme of this conference is ‘Teachers are at the Heart of Transforming Education’.

    During another programme in Gandhinagar, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of developmental projects worth over Rs 2,450 crore. These include projects of the Urban Development Department, Water Supply Department, Road and Transport Department and Mines and Minerals Department.

    The prime minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) – rural and urban – projects and participate in the “Griha Pravesh” of around 19,000 houses built under the scheme. He will hand over keys to the beneficiaries of the scheme during the programme, said officials. The total outlay of these projects is around Rs 1,950 crore

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a three-day international tourism exposition in Delhi on May 18 during which a host of cultural activities will be organised, Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Wednesday.

    The event will be held from May 18-20 and will also commemorate the International Museum Day that falls on May 18.

    It will be held at Pragati Maidan as part of the second phase of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Reddy said. Modi will inaugurate the International Museum Expo on May 18, he added.

    Tirupati: Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) is racing ahead of other civic bodies in the state in improving infrastructure facilities in a big way, said MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy.

    Speaking after the inauguration of two ‘master plan’ roads in the city on Sunday, the MLA said at the behest of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the municipal corporation embarked on a series of development activities including roads, sanitation and drinking water supply.

    In his address, Swamiji said that it was a laudable gesture on the part of MCT naming a major road after Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Swamy, known as Maha Periaval, on the occasion of his birth anniversary this month.

    Mayor Dr R Sirisha and Municipal Commissioner D Haritha said that among the 14 master plan roads, five were inaugurated while efforts are on for the completion of remaining roads soon. Deputy Mayor Bhumana Abhinay Reddy, Corporator Uma Ajay, corporation officials and others were present.

    Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K Chandrashekar Rao will inaugurate the party’s central office building at Vasant Vihar in Delhi Thursday afternoon. The party office has been operating out of a temporary facility at Sardar Patel Marg since last December.

    He reviewed the works of Pushkar Plaza on Saturday at the Pushkar Ghat and said that inauguration will be held in grand way very soon.

    The engineering officials and the contractor are advised to ensure quality in works for Pushkar Plaza Tourist Hub. He said that the space next to Pushkar Ghat railway under bridge in main area of city and the road area is unused, so it was made a sit-out for tourists coming to Pushkar Ghat.

    Hyderabad : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 91 nos of 100 Watt FM Transmitters across the country in virtual mode on April 28. Of these, four 100 Watt FM transmitters are located in Telangana State this is Nalgonda, Devarakonda, Ramagundam and Sirpur. Each FM transmitter has an effective coverage of 20 km radius. The transmitters would further expand FM coverage and provide information and entertainment to public of these areas through AIR FM services. FM frequency is 100.1 MHz.

    Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today inaugurated Vivekananda Girls’ Hostel built by the Himgiri Kalyan Ashram at Beolia near Shimla. He announced Rs 5 lakh for the organisation to aid its welfare activities.

    “He said the Himgiri Kalyan Ashram is providing food, clothing, accommodation, education and medical facilities to poor and destitute children through its hostels. About 550 pass out students from Himgiri Kalyan Ashram have excelled in different fields,” he added.

    He paid tribute to late Matha Ram who donated land for the girls hostel. He also appreciated Vinod Agarwal, Nand Lal Sharma, Kannu Devi, wife of Matha Ram, and other social workers who helped in the construction of the building.
