  • KCR said – even after 75 years of independence, India is still struggling with water and electricity shortage

KCR said – even after 75 years of independence, India is still struggling with water and electricity shortage

Nanded: Ripping apart both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party for failing to ensure welfare of farmers, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said despite 75 years of independence, India was still plagued with water and power shortage.

Reiterating that India was replete with natural resources, he said there was abundant water and the country’s vast lands were suitable for cultivation much more than those in China and the United States.

Every year, there was provision of about 75,000 tmc of water and of this, only 19,000 tmc was being utilized. Nearly 50,000 tmc was flowing down into the Bay of Bengal. Similarly, there were 361 billion tonnes of coal reserves with which 24 hours quality power can be supplied for 125 years, he explained.

Yet the farmers were deprived of water and power for agriculture. When the country was blessed with resources, the Prime Minister at the Centre and the Chief Minister in Maharashtra, with their lack of vision, were becoming hurdles in ensuring optimum utility of these resources, he said.

“Fight with me, I assure you water will be supplied to every acre,” Chandrashekhar Rao said at the BRS meeting in Nanded on Sunday amidst ‘Desh ki Netha kaisa ho, KCR jaisa Ho’ slogans from the audience.

The Congress ruled the country for 54 years and BJP has been ruling for about 16 years. Yet there was no substantial difference or development. There could have been some difference for some political parties and leaders, but the fate of people, especially farmers has not changed, he pointed out.

All these aspects have to be discussed with family and friends and there should be debates in villages, he said.

“The key is our vote and unity. We have the ability to rule the nation, show your strength,” Chandrashekhar Rao said, pointing out that as people continue to fight on caste and religion-based issues and stay divided, farmers would continue to die by suicide.

“The only mantra is farmers have to stay united and form a team to fight against these parties, which have taken the farming community for granted,” he said.

BHUBANESWAR: In a joint collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Nalco has developed a bauxite-certified reference material (CRM) dubbed BARC B1201.This is the first-of-its-kind CRM in India and the fifth in the world. The National Centre for Compositional Characterisation of Materials (NCCCM) of BARC has helped Nalco develop the material.

CRMs are blocks of metal that come with certificates indicating the concentration of their various constituent elements along with their uncertainty levels. Testing laboratories use certified reference materials to calibrate measuring instruments, evaluate test procedures and for quality control purposes.

BARC B1201 was formally launched by the director (P&T) of Nalco MP Mishra and head of NCCCM AC Sahayam on Friday. A method previously developed and validated in the laboratory, using single-step bauxite dissolution and subsequent quantitation was used for homogeneity studies and an inter-laboratory comparison exercise of the CRM.

The CRM was certified for nine property values – Al2O3, Fe2O3, SiO2, TiO2, V2O5, MnO, Cr2O3, MgO and LOI which are traceable to the international system of units. Congratulating the entire team involved in the development of the product, Nalco CMD Sridhar Patra said the collaboration with BARC has resulted in developing the unique product required by the research laboratories.

Party leaders put letters on houses to identify freebie beneficiaries

HUBBALLI: The residents of several areas in Kampli town of Ballari district were baffled to see some markings on their doors, pipes and walls. When they looked closely there were alphabets, each different from the other house.

It took some time for the confused residents to realize that it was the handiwork of some political party workers who are trying to woo the voters as the state prepares for the Assembly elections. It’s said that alphabets are chosen depending on the number of voters in the house.

“The residents were scared that the local administration had made some markings. Many residents feared that there could be road widening. But, later, it was the booth-level workers who cleared the air. A political leader has decided to give goodies to women voters and it was important to know how many women are in each house. Hence, if there is only one woman voter, A is written on the wall and if there are five women voters in the house letter E is written,” said a resident of Kampli town.

The residents here are not sure whether to report the matter to the administration or wait for the political party workers to return carrying a gift bag. “The residents are divided over the development, Some of the residents have asked the youth not to report to the administration,” the resident added.

Kampli MLA J N Ganesh of Congress will be facing Suresh babu of BJP in the upcoming polls.

A senior political leader from the district said that it’s common that all the political parties indulge in wooing the voters. ” In many places of Ballari, especially in the rural areas, stickers are posted on the front walls. ‘One boy, two girls,’ or ‘two girls’, such codes are written to ensure the party workers give the exact amount of goodies they are planning for the voters. In the case of Kampli it is said that the goodies including saree, nose ring and cooker have been planned to give to each woman voter,” the leader said.
