    IIT-Guwahati Launches 5-day Innovation Bootcamp

    GUWAHATI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, in collaboration with the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC), has commenced a five-day residential bootcamp focused on Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship (IDE). The bootcamp, which began on June 22 and will run until June 26, 2023, aims to provide intensive experiential training in various aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship to students, teachers, and faculty members from higher education institutes and schools.

    An official release stated that the program is designed to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat mission, which aims to promote self-reliance and empower individuals to become entrepreneurs and job creators. Participants in the bootcamp will receive hands-on training in areas such as design thinking, product design, ergonomics, business modeling, and enterprise planning. The comprehensive curriculum is intended to foster the entrepreneurial journey of the attendees, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to transform their innovative ideas into successful ventures.

    The bootcamp offers a unique opportunity for participants to showcase their ideas and potentially receive mentoring support. Mentoring and pitching rounds have been incorporated into the program, allowing participants to present their concepts and receive valuable guidance. As a recognition of their exceptional ideas, the top five pitch ideas will be awarded appreciation certificates by AICTE and IIT Guwahati. Furthermore, all participants will be presented with participation certificates as a token of acknowledgment.

    The bootcamp, hosted by IIT Guwahati, features a carefully curated lineup of masterclasses and special lectures aimed at instilling the spirit of entrepreneurship in all attendees. Parameswar K. Iyer, the officiating director of IIT Guwahati, expressed his enthusiasm for the program, emphasizing the institute’s commitment to nurturing the entrepreneurial mindset among participants.

    The IDE Bootcamp program is a joint initiative by AICTE and MIC, and it is simultaneously being organized in six different locations across the country. AICTE has shortlisted approximately 1,800 participants from various backgrounds to participate in the program. IIT Guwahati, as one of the host institutes, is accommodating around 230 innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs, according to the release.

    With its focus on innovation, design, and entrepreneurship, the IDE Bootcamp organized by IIT Guwahati in collaboration with AICTE and MIC is poised to make a significant impact on the entrepreneurial landscape of the country. By equipping participants with the necessary skills and knowledge and providing them with a platform to showcase their ideas, the bootcamp aims to inspire and empower the next generation of Indian entrepreneurs, furthering the vision of an Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

    Only three Indian businessman on White House state dinner guest list

    Washington:  Only three Indian businessmen — Mukesh Ambani, Anand Mahindra and Nikhil Kamath — are part of the guest list for the state dinner hosted by US President Joe Biden in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s honour at the White House.

    Deadline reported that the guest list for the White House State Dinner for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi includes a number of entertainment and media figures, including Netflix’s Bela Bajaria, Universal’s Donna Langley, director M. Night Shyamalan, Wasserman Media Group’s Casey Wasserman and James Murdoch.

    Also on the list were OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

    In the news business, guests include columnists Tom Friedman and David Ignatius, The Wall Street Journal’s Tarini Parti, writer Anand Giridharadasas, as well as CBS News’ Neeraj Khemlani. Former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who is now US Ambassador to India, also attended, Deadline reported.

    Other notables include Billie Jean King, Anne Wojcicki, Ralph Lauren, and Maria Teresa Kumar.

    House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who hosted Modi at a joint session of Congress earlier on Thursday, was also on the list. The President’s son Hunter Biden, who faces tax and gun charges as part of a plea deal announced this week, also is on the list.

    Other CEOs include Marriott CEO Anthony Capuano, GE CEO Larry Culp, Discover CEO Roger Hochschild, Cisco Systems CEO Chuck Robbins and Deloitte CEO Punit Renjen, Deadline reported.

    Phulbani: Founder of KIIT & KISS and MP Achyuta Samanta is in Kandhamal Parliamentarian constituency. Accompanied by the District Collector, he visited the Community Health Centre in Khajuripda and Blood Bank at District Head Quarter Hospital in Phulbani.

    Apart from visiting the health centres, Samanta also provided inputs from his own experience in building healthcare facilities and extended his best wishes.

    This apart, the Kandhamal MP also witnessed signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Power Finance Corporation Limited and Integrated Development Agency in Baliguda for the renovation and improvement of educational and allied infrastructures of 20 schools in Kandhamal district with a cost of Rs 6 Crore.

    Kandhamal District collector Ashish Ishwar Patil and other senior officials also were present during the MoU signing event.

    Former Malkangiri Collector not guilty in PA’s death case; says HC

    Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has announced Odisha cadre IAS officer Manish Agrawal not guilty in the mysterious death of his personal assistant (PA) during his tenure as Malkangiri Collector in 2019.

    According to reports, Debnarayan Panda, personal assistant to the then Malkangiri Collector Manish Agrawal, went missing from his office on December 27, 2019. Later, his body was recovered from Satiguda dam in Malkangiri. The police initially registered a suicide case and later an unnatural death case in this connection.

    However, the deceased’s wife alleged that he might have been murdered. Panda’s wife had filed a case in this regard at the court of Malkangiri Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM).

    Based on the complaint, a murder FIR was lodged against Agrawal and three others. The Odisha Police had also launched a CID-Crime Branch probe into the incident.

    Following the complaint, Agrawal moved to the Orissa HC. Advocate Ashish Mishra was pleading the case on behalf of the Manish Agrawal, IAS.

    Odisha: Nabarangpur Sub-collector under vigilance scanner in DA case

    Nabarangpur: The Sub-collector of Nabarangpur district is under Odisha vigilance scanner for allegation of acquiring disproportionate assets.

    The accused has been identified as Prashant Raut, Sub-Collector of Nabarngpur district.

    Simultaneous raid is underway at various places including Bhadrak and Kanan Vihar area of Bhubaneswar. Nine teams of Odisha vigilance are conducting raids  led by two Additional SP, seven DSPs, eight inspectors and other staff on the strength of search warrants issued by  Special Judge, Vigilance.

    Places of search:
    (1) The double storied residential house of of S.O. located at HIG-115, Kanan Vihar, Bhubaneswar.

    (2) The residential house of S.O. located at Nawarangpur, Dist- Nawarangpur.

    (3) The office chamber of S. O. located at Nawarangpur, Dist-Nawarangpur.

    (4) The parental house of S.O. located at Village-Bahudarada, PS-Bhadrak, Dist-Bhadrak.

    This apart, searches are being conducted at 5 other locations of acquaintances of  Rout.

    Woman stabbed to death by one-sided lover in Bhubaneswar

    Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a woman was stabbed to death by a security guard in Odisha’s capital city of Bhubaneswar.

    The deceased has been identified as Baijanti Sahu of Naugaon area of Jagatsinghpur district. The accused has been identified as Ramesh Barik, a former security guard at GGB colony in Bhubaneswar.

    According to sources, on Tuesday, Ramesh attacked Baijanti with a sharp knife. Baijanti was critically injured at her stomach in the attack. She was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital in Bhubaneswar. Later, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as her condition deteriorated.

    However, Baijanti succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB medicals. The family of the deceased has filed a complaint regarding the matter at Mancheswar police station.

    It is suspected that Ramesh stabbed her over one-sided love, says reliable reports.

    Based on the complaint, the police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. Further detailed report related to the case are awaited.

    Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy rain is likely to lash Odisha from today. The MeT Bhubaneswar has issued yellow alert for 17 districts of the state.

    Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Ganjam and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Deogarh and Kandhamal.

    Several parts of Odisha are already receiving pre-monsoon rain from June 21. The amount of rainfall, drop in temperature and direction of wind have increased the chances of monsoon entering Odisha. The southwest monsoon has already entered Odisha. The monsoon touched some place of S0uthern and Western parts of the state.

    Pre-monsoon rains are expected in many parts of the state. In the last 36 hours, it has been raining in some places of Odisha. Heavy to very heavy rain will likely occur at many places from tomorrow onwards. In view of this, the weather center has issued a yellow warning for various districts for the next 3 days.

    Though there is no heatwave alert for coastal and interior Odisha, heat wave warning will remain in force for several parts of western Odisha, the IMD said.

    Sambalpur: In a tragic incident, a woman and her mother-in-law died after being electrocuted in Rairakhol area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district. The incident has come to the fore from Dabtaila village under Jujomura police limits of the district. 

    According to sources, the woman went to switch on the water motor in their house, when she got electrocuted. Seeing her, the deceased woman’s mother-in-law came to save her but she also got electrocuted. They were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital. However, the doctor who attended them, declared the duo brought dead.

    After receiving information, the police reached the spot and started to probe into the matter. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

    Man dies after being hit by speeding pick-up van in Bhubaneswar

    Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a man died after a speeding cattle-laden pick up van hit him in Odisha’s capital city of Bhubaneswar. The incident occurred at Kalyanpur square near Patia area of the Capital city.

    The deceased has been identified as Sudhir Kumar Singh, from Bihar. He was residing in Bhubaneswar for past many years.

    According to sources, at early morning, Sudhir kept his bike in the road side and was plucking flowers near Kalyanpur square at Patia when a speeding cattle-laden pick up van hit him. Following the accident, Sudhir died on the spot while the pick-up van overturned.

    On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. The cops have also detained four people in this connection and started to probe into the matter.

    Bhubaneswar: A huge cache of ganja has been seized by the Commissionerate Police from Dhauli on Friday, said reliable reports.

    The Commissionerate Police got a reliable tip-off in this regard and intercepted the vehicle with the ganja, said reports.

    As many as three cannabis dealers have been arrested in this case. Seizure of cars, cash, mobiles have also taken place.

    The police has seized as much as 60 kgs of ganja after raid at various places. The ganja was being transported from Kandhamal district to Puri district via Bhubaneswar the capital city of Odisha.

    A few days ago, a ganja smuggler was caught by the Mancheswar Police Station while driving a truck.

    The ganja was being transported in gunny bags resembling that of Pushpa film style.
