    Severe heat wave in Odisha to continue for 4 more days before possible arrival of Monsoon by June 21

    Bhubaneswar: In what can be considered as a bad news for the people of Odisha, heat to severe heat wave conditions likely to prevail across the State, informed the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD).

    As per the forecast of the IMD, the scorching heat wave conditions will continue till the possible arrival of Monsoon by June 21.

    Day 1 (Valid upto 8.30 AM of 18.06.2023):

    ORANGE WARNING: Heat wave to severe heat wave condition very likely to prevail at many places over the district of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh and Kandhamal.
    YELLOW WARNING: Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the district of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Ganjam and Jajpur.
    Day 2 (Valid from 8.30 AM of 18.06.2023 to 8.30 AM of 19.06.2023):

    ORANGE WARNING: Heat wave to severe heat wave condition very likely to prevail at a few places over the district of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda and Balangir.

    Ex-Civil Supplies Officer Brajendra Nayak Arrested for possessing DA to the tune of 268%

    Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Ex-Civil Supplies Officer of Nayagarh Brajendra Kumar Nayak for possessing disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 268% of his known sources of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

    During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets worth Crores were unearthed in the name of Nayak and his family members:

    One triple storeyed building over Plot No.384/2328, Khata No.604/381 near Rajarani Colony, Bhubaneswar worth over Rs.1.45 Crore.
    Another triple storeyed building over Plot No.385/2329, Khata No.604/381 near Rajarani Colony, Bhubaneswar.
    One triple storeyed building at Lewis Road, Garage Chhak, Bhubaneswar.
    One double storeyed building at Sishupalagarh, Old Town, Bhubaneswar.
    One double storeyed building at Plot No.A/L-55, Bhimatangi Housing Board Colony, Aerodrome Area, Bhubaneswar.
    One market complex with 10 shops and area of 2000 Sqft. hall given on rent to Odisha Gramya Bank at Khelar Bazar, Nimapara,
    One Farm house over Plot No.202, Khata No.338/28 of area Ac 1.62 decimal and Plot No.214, Khata No.338/27 of area Ac 0.29
    decimal at Sunugoradi, Nimapara, Puri.
    7 Plots including 2 in prime area of Bhubaneswar and 5 in Nimapara were found.
    Bank and Insurance deposits worth approx Rs.1.5 Crore.
    1 four wheeler (Bolero) and 3 two wheelers worth Rs.7.8 Lakhs.
    After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of the Ex-Civil Supplies Officer were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 268% in excess of his known sources of income.

    Further search of locker and details of other investments / assets are being ascertained. Final Disproportionate Assets (DA) value may increase further.

    In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No.15 dated 17.06.2023 has been registered against Brajendra Kumar Nayak, and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 P.C. Amendment Act, 2018.

    Further investigation into the matter is underway.

    CM Naveen Patnaik approves Rs. 225.53 Crores for 36 Urban Local Bodies of 10 Districts

    Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday approved Rs. 225.53 Crores in the third and last phase in favor of 36 Urban Local Bodies covering 10 Districts of Northern RDC Division under the State-funded flagship Scheme MUKTA for the Financial Year 2023-24. The districts covered are Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Balangir, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda & Deogarh.

    All these 36 ULBs have developed ward-wise feasible Annual Action Plans under MUKTA through a participatory process involving local citizens and key Stakeholders. All these projects are demand-driven, technically feasible, and environmentally sustainable projects. These Action Plans have been screened at the Dept. level before approval of HCM. All these approved projects to be taken up under MUKTA will be executed directly by Mission Shakti Groups as Implementing Agency.

    It may be mentioned here that, on the direction of Chief Minister Sri Naveen Patnaik, 5T Secretary, Sri VK Pandian discussed with public representatives of 36 ULBs of the above 10 districts on 16th June regarding the successful implementation of various projects under MUKTA.

    The Basket of Projects approved under MUKTA is climate resilient work, which includes the creation of Civic Amenities (Mini Park, Open Air Gym, Child play station, Playground, Walking track, Loo, Vending Zones), Open Space Development, Water Body Development, Construction of Multi-purpose Community Centers, Wall Painting, City beautification, and other Labour-oriented works.

    “Mukhya Mantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan” (MUKTA) was launched by Hon’ble CM on 18th April 2020 with a mission to create rapid, immediate, and mass employment opportunities for urban poor, informal and migrant laborers, rendered unemployed and vulnerable in the face of Covid-19 infused crisis, while addressing the needs of creation of climate resilient, cost-effective sustainable and replicable community assets by implementing labor-intensive public works across 115 Urban Local Bodies.

    MUKTA adopts a community-driven, participatory, and bottom-up approach ensuring transparency and accountability during the entire stage of project implementation. MUKTA is a community-driven scheme tailor-made for Community-Based Organisations (CBO) such as Women Self Help Groups (SHG) and Slum Dwellers Associations (SDA) to take center stage.

    As a whole, HCM has sanctioned Rs. 833.21 Crores in 3 phases covering all 115 ULBs of 30 districts of the State.

    2 dead, 1 critical in bike-tanker head-on collision in Rayagada

    Rayagada: In a tragic incident, two men died and another was critically injured after the bike they traveling in collided with a tanker in Odisha’s Rayagada district. The fatal accident took place near Shankara village under Tikiri police limits of the district.

    The deceased were identified as Maheshwar Majhi of Dengaguda village under Tikiri police station and Udaya Majhi of Kupachal village under Shankara panchayat. The injured has been identified as Suresh Majhi of Dengaguda village.

    According to sources, the three victims of the accident were returning to Tikiri at around 1 am when a tanker loaded with alumina powder collided with the bike. Due to the collision, the tanker and bike burnt on the spot. Reportedly Maheswar and Udaya died on the spot. Meanwhile, Suresh was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital. Suresh’s health condition is said to be stable presently.

    On being informed, Tikiri Fire Department reached the spot and doused the fire. The Tikiri Police along with Rayagada SDPO Devjayati Das arrived and started a probe into the matter.

    Mayurbhanj: Forest ranger dies after being shot by poachers in Simlipal

    Mayurbhanj: In a tragic incident, a forest ranger died after being shot by poachers in the Simlipal range in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The incident has come to the fore from Gamuchajharan of Simlipal National Park at Karanjia of the district.

    The deceased has been identified as Mati Hasanda. According to sources, on Friday while patrolling in the range, the poachers and rangers had an exchange of fire. Following this, Mati Hasanda was injured in his chest. He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

    On being informed, North Simlipal Deputy Director Sai Kiran D N, Karajia forest official Srikant Naik, and Karanjia police reached the spot. They have started to probe into the matter.

    Further detailed reports related to the case are awaited.

     Earlier, on May 22, a forest guard was allegedly killed in firing by a group of poachers in Similipal Tiger Reserve of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The deceased forest guard has been identified as Bimal Jena of Naana South Range.

    Update 

    Six people have been detained in connection to a forest ranger who died after being shot by poachers. The suspected poachers will be arrested soon said senior officials. The manhunt is underway.

    1 dead, 174 held after violent protest in Gujarat over eviction notice to mosque

    One person was killed and 174 others were detained after a violent protest broke out between a mob and police in Gujarat’s Junagadh over an anti-encroachment operation.

    The protest on Friday night reportedly erupted in connection to an eviction notice served by the Junagadh Municipal Corporation to a local mosque, demanding for document submission within five days.

    The notice was in relation to illegal construction allegations made against the mosque.

    Due to a lack of response from the mosque after the five-day period, the Corporation proceeded with its action.

    As a team from the Municipal Corporation arrived at the site to issue a demolition notice on Friday evening, a crowd of approximately 500 to 600 people gathered in opposition.

    Sukesh Chandrashekhar urges Railways Minister to accept Rs 10 cr donation for Odisha train tragedy victims

    New Delhi: Incarcerated alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar has written a letter to Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urging him to accept a donation of Rs 10 crore as a contribution towards victims of the June 2 Odisha train tragedy in which 288 people lost their lives.

    “The said contribution is from my personal funds which is from my legitimate source of earning, which is, completely taxed, and the documentation along with returns filings shall be furnished along with the said demand draft of Rs 10 crore,” Chandrashekhar, who is currently lodged at the Mandoli Jail, said in the letter written on Friday.

    “As our government is already providing all the needful to the affected, I, as a responsible and good citizen, am contributing this fund of Rs 10 crore to be used specifically for those families/children, our future youth, who have lost their loved one/ breadwinners of their family towards their education expenses.

    “The contribution to be specifically used for that every child of the deceased for their education expenses, be it school, high school, college education,” he said.

    “As per this very minimum on daily basis my organisation namely Sharadha Foundation, Chandrashekhar Cancer Foundation, LS Education, has been contributing for sections of health care, education and mainly food contribution, for the needy, to make sure no one goes hungry, across five states of Southern India.

    “Sir I humbly, as mentioned, request to accept the contribution for the said purpose, specifically and kindly direct us the details of the concerned department. The Demand Draft should be prepared so that the same shall be prepared immediately and submitted by us on priority,” he concluded.

    Fake journalist, policemen held for extorting Rs 50,000

    Gurugram: A team of Gurugram police has arrested a gang of three people for allegedly extorting Rs 50,000 from a person, posing as a fake police officer and fake journalist, police said.

    According to the police, the victim filed a complaint on June 4, that a person contacted him through a website and sought service from him.

    The accused duo has been identified as Mohit Kumar Tonk (29), the fake journalist, and Devkinandan (37) the fake police officer, a resident of Jaipur Rajasthan, who was arrested from Jaipur, Rajasthan. One of the gang members was arrested on June 6, and is identified as Sunil.

    The suspect called the complainant to Cyber Park Sector-39, Gurugram, and made him sit in a Swift DZire car. The suspects then introduced themselves as policemen and journalist and threatened to send him to jail for committing a cyber crime, police said.

    The victim remained in the car, meanwhile, another person who introduced himself as a senior police officer, demanded Rs 1 lakh, the victim then transferred Rs 50,000 from his brother’s account to the account mentioned by the suspects.

    The accused threatened the victim of dire consequences if he revealed the matter to anyone, and asked him to arrange the remaining amount. Following a complaint, a case was registered at the Sadar Police Station.

    During the police probe, the accused revealed that Mohit used to work as a tourist guide in Jaipur about 09 years ago, he went to work in a disco, where he met Ibrahim Sheikh, the owner of Tehelka channel.

    Due to his good command of the English language, he along with Ibrahim Shaikh started conducting sting operations on people of good status in Mumbai. It returned to Jaipur after the lockdown due to Covid in the year-2020, police said.

    Thereafter he made a plan along with Devkinandan and Sunil for extortion through various websites (Rentman, Scoca, LockEnto, Gigello, Massage-Republic, etc.), targeting their victim and calling them to take service.

    They would stay in one city for about 1 month and after committing the crime, they would go to another city and commit a crime there.

    “The accused have revealed that they have carried out hundreds of incidents in different cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Belgaum, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, etc. The suspect also revealed that when the victim came to know about the fraud done by them and fearing police complaints the accused used to compromise the matter after giving them some amount to the victims,” Varun Dahiya, ACP (crime) said.

    Bhubaneswar: After Ollywood heroines Prakruti Mishra and Jasmine Rath, now actress Rani Priyadarshini has alleged facing casting couch several times. Though, the actress did not name anyone but claimed to have have evidences which she would furnish at the right time.

    “In my 15 years of career, I can say that there is casting couch in Ollywood. I have faced casting couch several times, which is why I have come forward to speak about it in the media,” Rani Priyadarshini said while speaking exclusively to Kalinga TV.

    “The directors, producers, production managers and event managers consume liquor and ganja at night and tell the actress that they don’t want to work with them as the girls are not able to satisfy or cooperate with them. Indirectly they ask the girls for compromise,” she alleged adding that though some actresses do not agree to their demands, some newcomers fulfill their demands to get work while the talented and experienced actresses remain at the back and do not get work.

    When asked about her personal experience of facing casting couch, Rani Priyadarshini said, “Several production managers and event managers have asked me to compromise and spend night with directors and producers. I have lot of evidences and will expose people one by one at the right time.”

    It is to be noted here that Prakruti Mishra and Jasmine Rath have leveled casting couch allegations against producer Sanjay Nayak alias Tutu Nayak. Even Prakruti Mishra has filed a complaint against Nayak at the Dada Bhai Naroji Nagar Police Station in Andheri West area of Mumbai.
