New Delhi (IANS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday said that they have filed a supplementary charge sheet against two more accused in connection with the 2022 murder case of BJP Yuva Morcha leader leader Praveen Nettaru in Karnataka.

One of the two accused named in the charge sheet, identified as Thufail M.H., who had been absconding, was tracked down and arrested by an NIA team in Bengaluru.

Both the accused — Thufail- and Mohammad Jabir — have been charged under various sections of IPC and UA (P) Act.

With this, a total of 21 accused persons have been chargesheeted in the case.

The murder, which took place on July 26, 2022 in Bellare village, Dakshina Kannada district, had sent shockwaves in the state.

Nettaru was murdered in full public view by members of the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI) “with the intention to strike terror in the society and create fear among the people”, according to the probe agency.

The initial chargesheet was filed by the NIA on January 20 this year.

The central probe agency had then stated that the PFI had formed secret ‘hit squads’, ‘Service Teams’ or ‘Killer Squads’ to carry out the killing of its ‘perceived enemies and targets.’

NIA investigations also revealed that Thufail, a resident of Kodagu, was in-Charge of the PFI Service Teams in the district and also a ‘PFI Master Trainer’ who would regularly impart advanced training, including arms training to the banned outfit’s cadres at the Freedom Community Hall, in neighbouring Dakshina Kannada.

He had harboured the three assailants in the murder case in Kodagu and Mysuru districts of Karnataka and in Erode district of Tamil Nadu, as per investigations by the NIA.

Meanwhile, Jabir was the PFI Puttur District President and had actively participated in the conspiracy meeting where it was decided to recce and murder Nettaru.

Further investigations into the case, which was initially registered as FIR number 63/2022 dated July 27, 2022 at Bellare Police Station of Dakshina Kannada district and re-registered by the NIA on August 4, 2022, are continuing.

  • Bommai slams Congress for questioning link between Bajrangbali & Bajrang Dal

Bommai slams Congress for questioning link between Bajrangbali & Bajrang Dal

Hubballi (IANS): Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday slammed the Congress for questioning the link between Bajrangbali and Bajrang Dal, saying that their relation is same as that of Lord Ram and Hanuman.

Speaking to reporters in Hubballi, CM Bommai stated that Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar had raised a question on the connection between Bajrang Dal and Hanuman. “The relationship which Shri Ram and Hanuman had existed between Bajrang Dal and Hanuman,” he maintained.

Hanuman is a great devotee of Shri Ram as per Hindu sacred epic scripture Ramayana. Shri Ram and Hanuman are revered all over the country and by all people who are Hindus cutting across the caste and creeds.

One should understand that hurting religious feelings is not appropriate. “We have given our programmes in the manifesto and they should tell theirs and let the people decide,” he stated.

Chief Minister Bommai accused the Congress of bringing in communal, casteist and religious emotions between people. The policy of appeasement is compelling them to do all this, he added.

“The Congress is not able to come out from the clutches of SDPI and PFI. It is under their total control. SDPI is another form of PFI. They have done this after succumbing to the pressure of SDPI. They are pressuring Congress that after the central government banned PFI, nothing has been done and threatened that they won’t support them,” CM Bommai stated.

The SDPI is encouraged by the Congress. Now, the situation is that tail is controlling the body and SDPI is controlling Congress after it is grown well in the state, CM Bommai maintained.

Asked about SDPI being dubbed BJP’s “B-team”, Chief Minister Bommai maintained that if that was the case why would they ban PFI? SDPI and PFI are the same. The statements are made to hush up their mistakes.

When asked about Sonia Gandhi’s state tour, CM Bommai stated that he would welcome her. “We won’t cry like Congress if national leaders come to the state for campaigning,” he underlined.

  • Mangaluru: Ahead of polling date, pvt bus operators effect steep hike in fares

Mangaluru: Ahead of polling date, pvt bus operators effect steep hike in fares

Bus fares have been raised on Mangaluru-Bengaluru, Mangaluru-Mysuru, Mangaluru-Hubballi routes.

Passengers will have to cough up more than the double fares as elections approach. Passengers are forced to pay more than Rs 1,000 when they travel in ordinary non-sleeper and AC sleeper buses.

Private bus operators have already effected an rise in fares for passengers undertaking journeys three days prior to the polling date. The new fares are already reflected in online reservations that have opened for bookings.

Bus fares specifically from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mysuru and Hubballi have been raised substantially. Tickets from Bengaluru and Mangaluru on some of the buses which were sold for about Rs 1,000 are now being sold for more than Rs 2,500.

Online bookings invite additional charges such as GST, service charge, convenience fee and other miscellaneous levies.

On the other hand, KSRTC has not hiked the bus fares. Fares for those who travel in Airavata, AC, non-AC, Rajahamsa continue to remain the same. As elections are approaching it is unlikely that the government will effect a hike in bus fares, KSRTC officials say. They also say that only if additional buses are pressed into service ahead of the elections, the KSRTC may be forced to hike the bus fares by about 10%.

In view of the private bus operators hiking the fares ahead of the elections, people living in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Hubballi are forced to think twice about making that trip to Mangaluru to cast their votes.

Passengers have urged the officials of Election Commission of India to take cognisance of the arbitrary bus fare hike effected by the private operators ahead of the polls which will act as a deterrent for the electorate to cast their votes.
