    Sambhal: In a startling claim, the Uttar Pradesh Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dharmpal Singh on Saturday alleged that the Opposition is behind the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed as he was going to “reveal many secrets”.

    “The truth is that the Opposition is behind the killing of Atiq Ahmed. After his arrest, he was going to reveal many secrets. That’s why the Opposition got him killed,” Dharmpal Singh said.

    The mafia-turned-politician and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were killed last week while being taken for a medical examination in Prayagraj.

    Atiq Ahmed was accused in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005, as well as in the killing of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the BSP leader’s murder, in February this year.

    Lucknow: In a dig at the ruling BJP, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said socialism is at the root of the great concept of “Ram Rajya” and it is possible only through a caste census.

    Yadav’s statement comes days after several opposition parties, including the Congress and the JD(U), demanded a caste census and sought reservation according to the population of SC, ST and OBC communities.

    Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge even wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding an updated caste census. He said meaningful social justice and empowerment programmes are incomplete without such data. Bihar Chief Minister and JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar supported the demand by the Congress party.

    In a tweet in Hindi, Yadav said, “Socialism is the root of the great concept of Ram Rajya. Socialism implements in a true manner on the ground principles like treating everyone equal without discrimination, embracing (one another) with love, giving equal opportunity to everyone and social security.”

    Continuation of road accidents in the state, 4 died in a day

    Bhubaneswar: Despite promotion of awareness about traffic rules by different agencies in Odisha, road accidents continue to take lives as 4 persons were killed in separate mishaps on Saturday.

    In the first accident in the afternoon of the day, two youths were killed and one was injured after an SUV in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck in Bhadrak district.

    The mishap took place when the youths were coming in the SUV from West Bengal to Bhubaneswar on NH-16. As they reached Ranital under the Bhadrak Rural police limits, the driver crashed into the truck.

    The two youths died on the spot while the third person was critically injured. The locals informed the police.

    The police with the help of the locals brought the bodies of the deceased out of badly mangled vehicle. They also rushed the injured person to the district headquarters hospital (DHH). The identity of the victims has not been confirmed.

    In the other accident, a man and his three-year-old son were crushed to death after being run over by a truck in Talcher of Angul district.

    It may be noted that the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) has decided to hold a programme in the schools on April 22 to promote awareness among school students about traffic rules and bring down road accidents.

    The portals of the world famous Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines have been opened for the devotees to visit on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on Saturday. As per the schedule, the doors of Gangotri Dham have been opened at 12.35 pm and the doors of Yamunotri Dham at 12.41 in the afternoon for the darshan of the devotees. Now for the next six months, the devotees will be able to darshan of Maa Ganga in Gangotri and Maa Yamuna in Yamunotri Dham. Today the first puja was performed in the name of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

    Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami offered prayers at Kharsali, Yamunotri on Saturday. After that, the festive doli of Maa Yamuna ji was sent from Kharsali to Yamunotri Dham. Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said that with the opening of the doors of Maa Yamunotri and Gangotri Dham today, the Chardham Yatra of Uttarakhand has started. The portals of Shri Kedarnath will open on 25 April and Shri Badrinath on 27 April. Devotees coming on Chardham Yatra were welcomed on their arrival at Dev Bhoomi. Flowers have been showered on the devotees through helicopter.

    Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Chardham Yatra will be celebrated with enthusiasm. He welcomed the devotees coming from the country and abroad to Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also wished for the happiness and prosperity of the country and the state.

    Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami took the blessings of Mother Ganga ji by offering prayers at Gangotri Dham. The Chief Minister welcomed all the devotees coming on Chardham Yatra. He said that all the devotees who come from the country and abroad for the Chardham Yatra will be given darshan. All preparations have been done in view of the Char Dham Yatra. The state government is determined for safe and smooth travel. Every possible facility will be made available to the devotees in the state. He said that all arrangements for the yatra are being regularly monitored.

    Chairman of Gangotri Mandir Committee Mr. Harish Semwal told that on Friday at 12:15 minutes, Maa Ganga’s festival doli left for Gangotri Dham from Mukhba village for its winter stay. After taking night rest at Bhairav Temple located in Bhairav Valley, the next day morning at 8 am Maa Ganga’s Utsav Doli reached Gangotri Dham. Where Ganga Poojan, Ganga Sahastranam recitation and special poojas were performed along with rituals, at 12:35 on Sarvath Amrit Siddha Yoga, the doors of Gangotri Dham were opened for the devotees to visit.

    Mr. Suresh Uniyal, Secretary of the Yamunotri Temple Committee, told that on Saturday morning, on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the doli of Maa Yamuna left for Yamunotri Dham from Kharsali village at 8 am. Doli reached Yamunotri Dham at 11 am. Where after offering prayers and performing Havan, the doors of Yamunotri Dham have been opened for devotees to visit at 12:41 in Abhijeet Muhurta with Vedic chanting.

    Bhubaneswar: After reported disappearance of two files of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) triggered a row, the Odisha government clarified that both the files and have been traced.

    Putting an end to speculations, Law department principal secretary Dhaneswar Mallick said the files were not traceable and directions were issued to find them. “It is clarified that the files have been found,” he said in a statement.

    Official sources said that both the files had got mixed up with other routine files for which it was difficult to trace them. Earlier, the matter relating to the untraceable files came to the fore after a deputy secretary of the department wrote to all the sections under it to locate those two files on a priority basis.

    The files will be reportedly used for compliance with an order of the Orissa High Court. The department letter read, “Two files of JTA Section bearing No. JTA-55/2006(pt) and JTA-06/2014 are untraceable in the records of JTA Section. Therefore, it is hereby requested to all sections of this Department to conduct search operation in their records on a priority basis and submit the said files, if available, to JTA Section immediately for compliance with the order of the High Court.”

    It may be noted here that the opposition political parties and others had launched a scathing attack on the state government over the issue accusing it of neglecting matters relating to Lord Jagannath.

    Opposition BJP had lodged a complaint at the Capital police station in Bhubaneswar on Friday regarding the two files going untraceable.

    Bhubaneswar: The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated with great pomp across Odisha on Saturday aimd special prayers at mosques and eidgah across the state.

    People greeted each other after the prayers and took part in the festivities. The main markets of the state capital Bhubaneswar and other places saw brisk shopping for the festival.

    However, there was no mass prayers at Eidgah in Sambalpur on the occasion of ‘Eid-ul-fitr with curfew restrictions still in force in the western Odisha town after the April 12 and 14 violence.

    Members of the minority community agreed not to congregate at the Eidgah for namaz this year as the situation continues to remain volatile, on the request of the district administration. The community decided to offer namaz separately at 10 mosques across the town.

    Tight security arrangements were also made in Sambapur where 46 platoons of police force were deployed to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident, sources said.

    Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and a host of political leaders extended greetings to the people on the occasion.

    Taking to Twitter, the Governor wished the people “Eid Mubarak” and hoped that the festival will spread the spirit of togetherness, harmony and peace for all.

    “Warm greetings to everyone on the auspicious occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr. May Allah bring happiness, prosperity & peace in our lives and lead us on the path of compassion and love,” the Chief Minister tweeted

    Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims around the globe to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramzan. Ramzan is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad, according to Islamic belief.

    In Sambalpur, patrolling was intensified across the city apart from heavy deployment of police force. Police personnel in strength were deployed at every mosque. Notably, over 5,000 members of the Muslim community assemble to offer namaz at the Eidgah in Sakhipara area every year during Eid-al-fitr.

    MLA Pradeep Panigrahi vigilance chargesheeted in DA case of Rs 9.18 crore

    Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance filed chargesheet against former BJD leader and MLA Pradeep Panigrahi and his wife for allegedly possessing assets worth over Rs 9.18 crore, which were found to be disproportionate to their known sources income.

    The 3000-page chargesheet was filed before the Special Vigilance Court, Bhubaneswar in disproportionate assets case registered against the Gopalpur MLA and his spouse, a Vigilance release said.

    The case was registered on April 10, 2021 u/s u/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 on the orders of the Odisha Lokayukta for possession of assets disproportionate to known sources of income by Panigrahi during his tenure as a public servant.

    During the course of investigation, house searches were conducted and relevant materials, documents and information relating to assets, income and expenditure were collected. After completion of investigation, Panigrahi was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the tune of Rs.9,18,13,007/-, which he could not explain satisfactorily.

    The former Minister’s ‘spouse was also found liable for abetting the offence. Accordingly, the Investigation Report was filed before the Lokayukta on June 9, 2022. After examining the Investigation Report, the Lokayukta on April 20, 2023 ordered for submission of chargesheet against Panigrahi and his spouse before the Special Court, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

    Accordingly, the 3000-page chargesheet has been filed in the Special Court, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar documenting detailed evidence against the accused persons for standing their trial in the court of law, it added.

    It may be noted here that Panigrahi hadbeen arrested on charges of forgery, criminal conspiracy and other offences on December 3, 2020. Following his arrest, the legislator was expelled from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD). He was released from Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar on June 12, 2021 after being granted bail by the Orissa High Court in connection with a job fraud case.

    Sakhigopal: Odisha bid a tearful adieu to martyred jawan Debasish Biswal as his mortal remains were consigned to flames with full military and state honours at his native village Khandayat Sahi in Sakhigopal area of Puri district on Saturday.

    The mortal remains of the martyr were consigned to flames at his village crematorium in presence of army personnel, family members, near and dear ones and thousands of people. His elder brother lit his funeral pyre in the afternoon.

    The body of Lance Naik Debasish Biswal, who attained martyrdom in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Thursday, arrived at Bhubaneswar airport this morning in a special Indian Air Force aircraft where he was given guard of honour by the Army. Governor Ganeshi Lal and several other dignitaries paid tributes to the departed soul.

    The body was then taken to Sakhigopal by an army convoy and subsequently thousands of people participated in a huge procession to the slain soldier’s village.

    Thousands of people lined up on both sides of the road to pay their last respect to the martyr raising slogans ‘Debashish Amar Rahe’. After the convoy reached Khandayat Sahi, the mortal remains were consigned to the flames at the village crematorium.

    Locals said Debashish was the pride of Odisha and he will continue to remain in the hearts of the villagers as an immortal hero who laid down his life for the country.

    Debashish was among five Indian Army soldiers killed after the vehicle in which they were travelling caught fire due to suspected terrorist attack in Poonch district on April 20. He is survived by his wife Sushree Sangeeta and seven-month-old daughter.

    Sources said that terrorists had lobbed a grenade on the army vehicle by taking advantage of heavy rains and poor visibility in Poonch area on Thursday.

    The Bharatiya Janata Party has launched a cleanliness drive around major religious places across the state. State BJP President CR in the famous Ambaji Niketan temple of Surat city and its surrounding areas. Patil cleaned with a broom in his hand. Along with this, State Education Minister Prafulbhai Pansheriya cleaned the area around the temple with a shovel in hand. A large number of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and workers participated in it.

    State Education Minister Prafulla Pansheriya said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly giving priority to cleanliness. A lot of work is being done on the cleanliness mission across the country. From today, a cleanliness campaign has been started around 23 religious places across the state. Cleanliness campaign has been started at all the pilgrimage sites of the state from today. This campaign has been started with an effort to clean these pilgrimages at a microscopic level. A campaign will be run for two to two and a half hours to clean the pilgrimage site. Where this cleanliness campaign will be run continuously on the third Sunday of every month at all the 23 pilgrimage sites of the state.

    Gujarat BJP President C.R. Patil launched the cleanliness drive from Ambika-Niketan temple complex in Surat today. The BJP President challenged the workers not to take photographs and not participate in the cleanliness drive. Education Minister Prafulla Pansuriya also joined the cleanliness drive. After the politics of including 12 AAP councilors in BJP, all of them were ordered to join the cleanliness drive.

    MLAs, councilors and workers participated in the cleanliness campaign launched in Surat under the leadership of Surat City BJP President Niranjanbhai Jhanjmera. Everyone cleaned the Ambika-Niketan temple complex and Tapi river ghat with brooms in their hands.
