    Bhubaneswar: Mortal remains of martyred Odia jawan Debashish Biswal has reached Bhubaneswar today. The Martyred Jawan will be given Guard of Honour and his last rites will be conducted at native village in Satyabadi in Puri district Odisha.

    The people across the state are mourning on the death of the jawan. The senior officials of Indian army, Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal has paid tribute to the soldier. CM Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh for the family members of Odia jawan. The monetary aid will given to the kin of the jawan from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

    The CM has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of Biswal. He praised the bravery and courage of the soldier and paid his deepest condolences, Patnaik prayed the God to give strength and patience to the bereaved family members to overcome the grief.

    Debashish Biswal was killed in a terror attack on Thursday. Biswal was among the five army personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles Unit, who were deployed for Counter Terrorist operations, killed in the terrorist attack in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir. The other four jawans are from Punjab.

    Debashish Biswal from Alagum near Sakhigopal in Puri district is survived by his wife and a 7-month-old baby.

    Angul: Blood soaked body of a youth was recovered from a field at Hulurisingha village of Angul district on Friday evening.

    The deceased have been identified as Prakash Behera, son of Abhiram Behera of the same village.

    According to sources, Prakash use to run a chicken store at Hulurisingha Chhak. Some onlookers spotted the blood soaked body of Prakash and informed the Town police regarding the incident.

    India has recorded 12,193 fresh COVID-19 cases in a span of 24 hours, with the number of active cases of the infection going up to 67,556, the Union health ministry said on Saturday.

    The death toll due to the viral disease has climbed to 5,31,300 with 42 more fatalities, including 10 reconciled by Kerala, according to the ministry’s data updated at 8 am.

    The tally of Covid cases was recorded at 4,48,81,877.

    The active cases account for 0.15 per cent of the total caseload, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.66 per cent, according to the health ministry’s website.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has gone up to 4,42,83,021, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent.

    According to the ministry’s website, 220.66 crore doses of anti-Covid vaccines have so far been administered to people across the country.
