    Indian Navy’s latest destroyer successfully intercepts supersonic target

    NEW DELHI: Indian Navy’s latest indigenous guided missile destroyer INS Mormugao successfully carried out an engagement of sea-skimming supersonic target.

    The Navy said, “The missile accurately hit its target. The missile is capable of hitting its target up to a distance of 300 km.” Sea-skimming refers to a missile that flies as close as possible to the sea surface. It stays at a height of less than 10 feet.

    INS Mormugao measures 163 meters in length and 17 meters in breadth. It is a warship constructed in India with a displacement of 7,400 tonnes. INS Mormugao is equipped with missiles such as BrahMos and Barak-8. This modern Indian-made warship is equipped with Israel’s MF-STAR radar, which can detect long-range air targets.

    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had dedicated Mormugao to the Indian Navy in December last year.On May 14, INS Mormugao successfully hit the target during its maiden Brahmos Supersonic cruise missile firing.

    Mormugao has been designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau. It is the world’s most advanced missile carrier armed with weapons. The warship can hit targets from a distance of 300 km.

    INS Mormugao was named after the historic port city of Goa. The warship undertook its first sea sortie on December 19, 2021, when Goa celebrated 60 years of liberation from Portuguese rule.

    New Delhi (IANS) | A very important and successful test of an advanced missile has been done from the Indian Navy’s destroyer INS ‘Mormugao’. During the testing of this missile, known as ‘Sea Skimming’, the missile hit the target floating in the sea from below. According to the Indian Navy, the missile was accurately tracked during the test and was successful in hitting its target. The Navy says that this missile is capable of hitting its target up to a distance of 300 km.
    ‘Sea skimming’ refers to a missile that flies very close to the surface of the water. Generally it stays at a height of less than 10 feet. INS Mormugao is a powerful warship built in India. It weighs 7,400 tonnes, is 163 meters in length and 17 meters in width.
    INS Mormugao is already equipped with missiles like BrahMos and Barak-8. This modern Indian-made warship is fitted with Israel’s MF-STAR radar, which can detect long-range air targets. However, both this warship of the Indian Navy and the weapons fitted in it are indigenous.

    FIRST SEA SORTIE OF SIXTH SCORPENE SUBMARINE ‘VAGHSHEER’

    The sixth submarine of Project 75, Yard 11880, Indian Navy’s Kalvari class commenced her sea trials on 18 May 23. The submarine was launched in 20 Apr 22 from the Kanhoji Angre Wet Basin of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL). Vaghsheer is scheduled for Delivery to the Indian Navy in early 2024 after completion of these trial.

    MDL has ‘Delivered’ three submarines of the Project – 75 in 24 months and the commencement of sea trials of the sixth submarine is a significant milestone. This is indicative of the boost towards AatmaNirbharBharat.

    The submarine will now undergo intense trials of all its systems at sea, these include propulsion systems, weapons and sensors.

    BrahMos: Indian Navy Successfully Test Fires Supersonic Cruise Missile

    A BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired from the Indian Navy’s frontline guided missile destroyer INS Mormugao, according to the reports.

    It is said that the missile firing demonstrated the Indian Navy’s firepower at sea.

    “INS Mormugao, the latest guided-missile destroyer, successfully hit ‘bulls eye’ during her maiden BrahMos supersonic cruise missile firing,” a Navy official reportedly said.The official also added, “The ship and her potent weapon, both indigenous, mark another shining symbol of ‘AatmaNirbharta’ and Indian Navy’s firepower at sea.”

    The official Twitter handle of the Western Naval Command also wrote similarly about the missile test-fire.The location of the test-firing of the missile is not immediately known.

    BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, an India-Russian joint venture, produces the supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.BrahMos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound. India is also exporting the BrahMos missiles.

    In January last year, India sealed a USD 375 million deal with the Philippines for supplying three batteries for the missile.
