    Collector G Ravi Nayak directed the officials to give speedy clearance to new units

    Mahabubnagar: District Collector G Ravi Nayak has directed the district industries department to expedite approval of applications for establishing new industrial units under I-PASS, T-Pride schemes in the district. He insisted that time-bound targets be set and applications must be perused carefully.

    Conducting a review on Friday, the Collector asked the officials to pull up their socks and pave way for setting up new units in an expeditious manner. He noted that by the end of June, 1,520 applications had been approved by the industries department under I-PASS in the district, and 1,450 applications were granted permission after a preliminary examination by all the departments concerned.

    Anantapur : District collector M Gauthami has called upon private schools to strictly adhere to government stipulations in providing 25 per cent quota to the poor students in their schools.

    She said only the prescribed fee should be collected while providing quality education to the students. Any violation will invite strict action from the district administration, the Collector warned.

    The Collector held a meeting with the officials of the Education Department, RDO, Intermediate RIO, RTO and representatives of private schools.

    She pointed out that some instances of additional fee collection have come to her notice. She warned that severe action will be taken against the management of such schools.

    The Collector said that private schools should not harass students with special classes during holidays. The schools should ensure hygienic conditions and officials should monitor the same.

    The Transport department should ensure the fitness of school buses.

    Each bus must have an attender who should take care of the children while boarding and alighting the bus.

    CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday instructed state Public & Rehabilitation dept officials to establish contact with Tamils stranded in Manipur & rescue them.

    This came after Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had on Monday said that 60 people were killed, 231 injured and 1,700 houses including religious places burnt in the ethnic violence that rocked the northeastern state for the past few days.

    Addressing a press conference here on Monday evening, the chief minister said that the state cabinet resolved to provide an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh each to those who suffered major injuries and Rs 25,000 each to people with minor injuries.

    “These are very very unfortunate incidents. I appeal to people to bring peace together at the earliest,” Singh said.

    He said that 1,700 houses, including temples and churches, have been burnt down in the violence.

    Singh said Rs 2 lakh will be paid to those whose houses were destroyed, and the state government will rebuild them.

    However, the situation across violence-hit Manipur is improving, with no fresh reports of any untoward incident, while curfew has been relaxed in all the 11 districts where it was clamped, officials said on Tuesday.
